    1:03 honestly I don’t either. I use to think it was because the European cars drive on the left with the wheel on the left but that’s not the case for mainland Europe. I looked it up and it said “to keep drivers safe during roadside incidents.” I guess that somewhat makes sense but idk.

    Especially at the gas station you need to keep your head on a swivel. Great point about taking the keys out of ignition too. Criminals are looking for the path of least resistance.

    I'm often surprised by just how many parked cars have people sitting in them. I often get my groceries late when there are only a dozen or so cars in the lot, and it's not uncommon for half of those to have people in them. You can tell most people don't spot them because they will often stare at you as if they don't expect to be noticed.

    I do my fuel runs always in the day time, usually at the same station which is not located in a shitty neighborhood. I put the nozzle in and let it fill and stop automatically. While it's filling, I will stand either in front or back of my vehicle. I don't think it's a good idea to stand in between your vehicle and the pumps. It's too easy for multiple attackers to box you in. I also don't go to Walmart, ever. I'll get what I need at a Target or Costco and will drive to a nicer location to shop at one, again during the day time. I still keep my eyes looking around even at those places.

    Gas pumps are also a good weapon. I hosed one guy down when I first moved to Memphis who got violent after panhandling for money and when i told him sorry I don't have any he broke a bottle, he thought twice about robbing me when I pulled out a Zippo.

    I'm remembering being told that 90 percent of cars with the fuel on right hand side are design originated in right hand driver countries.. ie Japan, Britain etc.

      generally from what I have seen this is correct. I have two JP designed/made Toyota sports cars and the fuel door is on the passenger side. the two US designed/made Toyotas have the fuel door on the driver side.

    I always follow Pat's advice at parking lots and gas stations, including locking the doors as soon as I'm back in the car and not putting my seatbelt on until I'm just pulling out of the lot. The one thing I haven't figured out yet is situational awareness while filling gas cans. I have a little half-assed farm so have a lot of small engines and need to fill 5gal cans a lot. I haven't figured out a good way to pay attention filling the cans so fuel doesn't spill while still keeping my head on a swivel.

      if you worried someone gonna get you in between pump handle squeezes then you got bigger and more concerning problems

    • @beninidaho
      @beninidaho 8 місяців тому

      I don't know how physics works in your universe, but here on Earth Prime it takes longer than ten seconds to fill a 5 gallon can, and one is usually bent over doing it, which often leads to the pumps or other obstructions blocking your view. It's easy to set the auto-shutoff on the pump handle and stand next to your car being noticeably observant while your vehicle tank fills. Not so much when filling gas cans.

    • @dennisbarrett6148
      @dennisbarrett6148 8 місяців тому +1

      Don't fill by "sight". That is , don't be looking down the hole beside the nozzle. If they are 5 gal cans, do 5 gal on the pump meter. They won't run over. You can still look around.

    • @beninidaho
      @beninidaho 8 місяців тому

      Absolutely - that works good with gas. Diesel can be tricky since it's easy to foam it over, and it seems like every diesel pump runs at a different speed/volume, so you kinda have to watch the fill. In the end, it's on me. I usually fill 4-6 containers at a time and get in a hurry, which puts me in condition white sometimes.

    Trips me out how many people get to a gas station, put the pump in, and rush back to their car to be comfortable and play on their phones. It's a 2 min process and people can't stand their and pay attention to what's going on around them.

    Excellent advice. 2009. Hobbs, Nm Walmart. I’m buying a HDTV (really expensive then) for work. I notice 3 dudes casing me inside. I pay in the electronics area. One guy disappeared. 2 followed me to the door where #3 was waiting. I always park WAY OUT in the lot. They fanned out and followed me to my truck. There’s no other vehicles within say 80’ of us. As I got to my truck, I stopped, pivoted towards them, placing the tv and big ass cart thing in between me and them, and said as I moved my coat to access my firearm, “who’s first?” They looked at me, looked at each other, then ran. Looking back now, it was a perfect opportunity to say, “ Say when..” but it slipped my mind. I have another co-worker that had a similar situation in the same lot but they boxed him in between cars. He drew on them and they ran.

      I confronted a car thief last Christmas. She said," I got something for you" then bladed off. I had my hand in my coat pocket on my pistol. I pulled and said, "really". Her eyes got really big and she ran off. I called 911 right away to get it on the books that I was the victim. Turns out she's a well known armed robber/thief with a long record.
      A week later she pulled a gun on my neighbor one street over. Cops found her but my neighbor wouldn't/couldn't ID her. I think he was concerned about reprisals.

    I live in a large west coast city. There is a gas station not far from my house it's a funnel, fenced on sides one entry one exit. I never go there. Sure enough there was a car jacking there. There was armed robbery at an ATM at another gas station I don't like going to.

    Hey Mac I've seen in your videos where you say if you are going to go check something out in the night take a flashlight just make sure it's attached to a firearm. But in all of your EDC videos I've never seen you with a carry pistol that had a mounted light. Would you just use your pocket flashlight if ever needed or do you have a lowlight EDC pistol with an attached light and we've just never seen it?

    Keep staring at the would-be predator. Get a full assessment of what this person looks like, what they are wearing, hair/eye color, what kind of car they are in, a tag number if possible. For a really creepy situation, just leave the parking spot and make sure to park under a lot of light, close to the entrance. During the day shopping is better if you can. For gas, park and lock the car, go inside and pay in cash (which is better to begin with), make sure to engage with the cashier and say you will be back to get a receipt and change. This way he/she will also be keeping an eye on your return. While filling up, make sure to know who is around you. Use the pump closest to the entrance also where it is brighter. I also make sure to not let either Camaro go below 3/4 a tank before filling up. This means that I am not spending a lot of time at the pump. If someone seems creepy, just keep your eyes on them and they will usually go away. Like Pat was saying, they want to surprise you, so just spoil it for them!

      While I agree with you Criminals in Memphis do not care. Most criminals know they will get away with the crime, very little gets solved. If you're a thug Memphis is good for business. We have an activist DA, a worthless activist sheriff, and most of the good police were ran off and what is left either don't care or are just trying to go home. All you can do is carry, stay alert, and stay alive. If enough thugs get shot, maybe they will learn to fear the victim.

    I remember I was at Walmart shopping center in Asheboro and we're eating at a Mexican restaurant there and I got in and let my girlfriend in and I looked over in my peripheral vision and I saw a would-be assailant try to grab my girlfriend and that's when I put a gun in his face to change his mind. But just like Pat Max says stay alert stay alive
