What a wonderful video, Donna. It makes me miss the pair of bourkes I had many years ago. I have had cockatiels and many parakeets over the years. I now have my 16 yr old green cheek who is great. I don’t think he would get along with others at this time.

Very cute. I miss my Bourke Parakeets. I lived in California where Bourkes were considered Aviary birds . No one seemed to realize they were great pets. I mainly hand feed cockatiels but had a single Bourke hatch and wanted the parents to renest. I took the single chick to hand feed. I was nervous because because he was so tiny. He did fine and I feel in love with him he was so sweet so I kept him.. I didn't clip his wings and he would follow me around the house when I let him out of his cage. If I went into another room and he couldn't find me, he would fly around tweeting until I emerged. I named him Tweets. I had plans to hand raise more Bourkes , Red Rumps, and Scarlet Chested parakeets however before I could I moved to Colorado. I picked out 28 birds to take with me. A week before we were to move the state of California imposed a quarantine on birds due to a Newcastle's out break . I had a week to find a place to keep my birds. A friend who had an Aviary kept my small birds but not my parrot. I found someone else to keep him. I kept in touch with my former vet in California to check on the status of the quarantine and 9 months later got the green light and a few weeks later my uncle, a private pilot, flew me back to California to retrieve my birds. Little Tweets came along. Unfortunately my Scarlet Chested Parakeets were stolen along with their offsprings and my Red Rumps female died in the excitement of the thief. Tweets had been kept in my friends house so he was ok. The next day we were all back on the ground at our new Colorado home. A year later Tweets was killed in a freak accident. A year after that I had to sell all my pet birds due to a health issue. I never got another Bourke Parakeet but I bought a sweet little blue Pacific Parrotlets. After having him for 2 years I bought him a mate and I now have 3 breeding pairs. At the moment they have 11 chicks total.
What a story, sorry for your loss. Tweet sounded like a sweety. Glad you have more birds now. Parrolets are adorable little birds.
