Beautiful WIPs, and I hope you make good progress with getting them finished! I started with 23 when I counted, and I am now down to 20. I’m focusing on working on ones I can finish relatively quickly so I can feel like it isn’t completely overwhelming and so far, I think I am doing pretty good. Stay warm!
Hi Beth! Don't feel too bad about wasting time on games. They were created to be addictive! It is good you recognize the waste and can work on that. I say this as somewho will #PUTITOFF often by farming in a fake world on my phone 😂. Why bake bread in the real world when I can earn fake money/points in a fake world baking fake bread? Makes total sense. 😂 I would frog the yellow tee and let the yarn rest and lose it's memory before you are ready to pick it up again. One square for a scrappy blanket is not a wip - that's a swatch! I agree with the comments above to cut and weave in ends or cover the back of the Taos blanket in fabric. I'd personally probably back it in fabric. It's beautiful! Good for you wanting to finish your friends blanket. If you can't find her, maybe you can finish and donate it to a blanket charity.
I used to do those farm and kitchen games on Facebook, where you had to ask your friends to send things to you. I gave it up when it got to be overwhelming. I think I have more squares somewhere for that blanket. I need to look around. That's good advice to undo the start of the yellow top. I may do that. I feel guilty for putting the blanket aside for so long. My friend was a young single mom when she bought all that yarn. I need to finish it and find her again.
Hi Beth. You have some BEAUTIFUL works in waiting 😀. Your TAOS blanket is amazing. I was wondering if you could, with a darning needle and yarn, just tack down those long floats . Once you do that and block it, I am sure you would love it. Thanks for sharing all this. Your plan for creating different baskets for different types if WIPS is fantastic. Go for it!!!
YOWSA, Beth! That's a whole lotta WIPs! I say frog the ones that you've just started and make them part of your 'queue' (like the colorwork socks and yellow tee). I only have 2-3 WIPs at a time. My queue is horrendous, but I keep the WIPs to a manageable number. Just schedule a day to start tackling them! Have a good week.

I have just slightly too many WIPs at the moment, and also want to cast on something new, but I'll hold off a bit. During Covid-times I enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles...I got a puzzle for Christmas, and since then, I've been doing puzzles when I should be doing other things. #PutItOff
Not a bad WIP count. You’ve got this. One at a time. I had 17 at the beginning of 2023 and knocked them all out. However, mine were not sweaters. This year I start with 7 and will get them done; I count my knits, crochets, English Paper Piecing, and occasional cross stitch projects; I don’t count my charity hats and scarves as WIPs though and always have those going on. I’m a pro at #PutItOff. I do force myself to take small breaks from crafting for a tiny bit of laundry, cleaning, and cooking so I’m fed, in clean clothes and do not live in a total mess. But mostly I craft and am happy.
Hi Beth: Sorry that you are overwhelmed with so many WIPs! I am a monogamous knitter, I only have one WIP where I am playing yarn chicken and can’t find any one who would sell a skein of the yarn. I put it off (cleaning) and knit instead, because no matter how I try to clean and declutter, I can’t seem to throw things away to keep the clutter under control. If I don’t know what to cast on next because I just completed my only project or don’t have the yarn for a project I like, I’ll scroll the internet until I figure what to cast on next. Knitting keeps me grounded, if I don’t anything on my needles, then I’m all over place. Hope you are able to complete some of your WIPs soon, Happy knitting! ❤
#PutItOff. Hi Beth. Your WIPs are amazing. Can't wait to see some of them finished. I thought your idea of cutting the long ones and weaving them in wasn't a bad solution to that Intarsia blanket. Also you could sew a backing for the blanket to cover the floats. Anyway I hope you figure out some of the Wips that have problems because the yarns are so beautiful. I tend to knit when I'm putting off housework, but other times I'm like you and waste hours on games, but mostly word games. Oh well, I hope my brain is benefitting. I just finished a cardigan for my son. So be aware those men sized sweaters really eat up your knitting time. I started this back in early summer and thought I'd be finished by Christmas, but just finished it yesterday. Of course some other Xmas gift knitting did get in the way too.
Thanks for the blanket advice. I really don't want to undo it all. I also didn't think about how much longer it could take to make a man-sized cardigan. It never occurred to me that it would take that much longer. Of course it does, because you're knitting more stitches. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

A little bit of work on anything will bring it closer to a finish than no work at all. How many WIPs do I have? Three for knitting. I learned to knit after 20 plus years of having cross stitch be my main hobby. I have about 20 cross stitch WIPs in various stages, and after five years of only knitting, I'm slowly starting to pick them up again. When I started knitting I decided that I'd have no more than 2 knitting WIPs at a time, and I've pretty much stuck to that. I think I may have maxed out at 4 once. I have 1 throw blanket and 2 shawl/wraps going right now. (One of which I'll finish up by the end of this week or next.) Cross Stitch now has a finish 2, start 1 rule in place.
#Putitoff I can get lost in computer games and waste time...or is it really a waste. ..maybe it helps my brain, or eye hand coordination, or it takes me away from overthinking!!
I can see that way of thinking, Lucile. Whenever I think about modern technology, I wonder how much of it is truly helpful and how much is a distraction from real life. I don't know.
Over the last couple years, I’ve focused on finishing projects before starting new ones. It is very tempting to cast on something new when I’m stuck on a problem or losing interest. As of today, I only have 1 WIP and I feel like I’m really cruising along. I don’t count a project as a WIP until I’ve actually cast it on. I do have 2 hibernating projects that would probably be easy to finish if I take the time to look for patterns, but I really have no need for them. They are older and easy to forget about. The problem with my 1 WIP is that I don’t have a good car knitting project ready to go at any moment. I would like to cast on a hat or a sock, but without taking focus away from my sleeves. 🏝️
You are so disciplined! That would make me crazy. I think I would probably knit more often if I just allowed myself to cast on all the things. Then I might play fewer games. Maybe not. I live in indecision, and that's what slows down my productivity. I admire your discipline.

Granddaughters wearing store bought hats 🤬. I’m knitting hats 🤣. Also. Just a warning about Caitlyn Hunters designs, yoke will either be too tight (short) or baggy (longer). Partly due to how yoke sweaters work, I’m working on her Soldotna, and have been reading comments
A couple of years ago I took a look at all of my WIPs and found I had about 16 of them and I decided to work on some of them and not cast new stuff on at least until I got a few of them worked on and I had managed to get down to 9 wips and then broke my elbow at the beginning of November 2022 and it took a few months before I felt comfortable knitting for more than 10-15 minutes. I have picked up a few of those UFOs and I'm working on them in manageable chunks - maybe 5-10 rows of sock, or a sleeve at a time, or an inch of sweater adding a marker at the beginning of the day's work so I can see what progress has been added and shifting it up again the next time I work on it, which seems to be helping. I have one scarf that has one more ball of hand spun yarn to go and I'm working on a second sock, so I would like to maybe have those two finished either by the end of the month, or into early March.
There are so many wips and other things I want to cast on. I haven't done a tally, but there are many. When I'm overwhelmed I usually scroll on Instagram or telegram. I'm hoping to finish at least on wip before I cast on something new. We'll see how it goes. Good luck with all of yours. #PutItOff Almost every time I have what I think is lots of time to knit, I find that the time evaporates with all kinds of little things I want to do first, so I can sit down a knit - cleaning up dishes and other little odd jobs that are always there, checking weather forecast, emailing a student’s parent, etc. I also get into trouble scrolling through IG or browsing patterns I’d like to make and picking colors I would use - and all of a sudden an hour is gone. Your pile of WIPs makes me feel better. 😊
I'm glad I could comfort you, Sharon. You must have a much smaller WIP count. I'm getting organized this year so I can be more disciplined like you next year.

Beth you are so fun! I’m amazed at all your unfinished WIPs! I have 6. 😂 So many beautiful projects. We got tons of snow Friday too. After a warm and green December, we had 2 snow days in one week. Have a good week!
