Axel is my favorite GX character. The dude literally took a grenade for his friend Jaden and saved everyone. His duel in Season 4 was tough to watch, but learning more about his father and the terrible choice he had to make as a kid really added to his character.
Honestly I'd argue he's probably at least one of the top 10 duelists in the show. Both duels he lost he could have won. And he only had 2 losses. He was a cool character and his deck was awesome. One of the series best for sure.
His arc in season 3 was so fye and just a great charater in general so its no surprise that he was the exchange student that came back with the most screen time in season 4

Axel's arc in season three was so cool Jaden was the supreme king so axel basically became the protagonist for 2 episodes. And volcanics are just so cool man one few anime archetypes that were actually very good in different phases of the game in real life including now funny enough
I definitely wish Dark King Jaden had a different deliver in the dub, much like he does in the original Japanese. Him having a more stoic and detached tone to his voice comunicates a lot to the audience.
Volcanic Counter though, is one of the most interesting and diabolical monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh. Weak as it is, its special ability MORE than makes up for it! In case you don’t know how its abilities work, it’s this: if it’s in your graveyard, wether by battle or card effect, whenever you take battle damage, its graveyard effect goes off. It removes itself from play, and if you have ANY fire-type monsters in your graveyard OTHER than Volcanic Counter, your opponent will receive the same damage that you just did. The thing that makes this card so diabolical & clever, is that its special ability activates in the GRAVEYARD. Not a lot of monsters and cards had effects that could reach an opponent’s graveyard, and even then, said cards were not cheap!

Was probably trying to get it face-up since Wild Wingman (which is what Wild Cyclone is based on) can destroy set cards and was acting on familiarity from that ability and have it at the ready for the next turn.
As a villain his deck got so much more interesting... then re becoming just Jaden... Those new and super interesting new additions magically vanish from his deck and it's... His A-typical deck again... Only a super strong deck in the duels if he's evil.... Guess it's about right but still...
Agree. I find it sad that Evil Hero never show up again since the following episodes makes it clear that Jaden IS the Supreme King. It's not brainwashing or anything like that , just him being desperate and believing Johan/Jesse and all his friends are dead cause of him so he created this new edgy and lonely persona to not show any weakness ever again. He is misguided at this moment , but all the supreme king abilities are Jaden's inner power. Once he made peace with himself. He should've been able to use them again but for good things.
I would also love to see how the Supreme King does against my @Ignister deck my end board ends with Dark Templar , Light Dragon, Wind Pegasus, Earth Golem and Water Leviathan with that end board I could crush the Supreme King on my first turn.
Not to mention. Supreme King’s Castle Field Spell, and Evil Hero Malicious Bane wasn’t released yet. Malicious Bane Can Use any Level 5 or Higher Monster with any Evil Hero Monster.
stop me if I'm wrong, but during Supreme King vs Jim. Didn't Axel learn that trap cards doesn’t work on fusion monsters summoned by "dark fusion"? Edit: nvm guy lol it was the monster effect I had to rewatch to be sure.
Didn't Axel more or less throw his first duel with Jaden and the one against Darness? Meaning he has a stronger record than the actual protagonist. Only Tea Gardner has never lost, and she never fought a real opponent.
He literally wiped dozens, if not hundreds before battling Jim. When he rules over, and everyone, including Axel, is terrified of him, based on the carnage he leaves behind, I think it’s a pretty well-earned title. Let’s not forget how he dethroned Brron too
I would have preferred someone else be the one to beat the 'Supreme King', it could have been Aster, Zane, Chazz or hell even Syrus who was Jaden's best friend be the one to beat him or draw with him, but not fricking Axel (who admittedly i dont like because i hate his card archetype) like, i'd prefer it be someone who we could say is more significant to Jaden
I would love to have faced the Supreme King and let’s see how his Evil Heroes stack up against the Four Supreme King Dragons and the Four Heavenly Dragons.
