- A clearer picture of the status of homelessness in Los Angeles County came into focus Thursday with the release of the 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, and after some brief hope offered by last year's results, the downward trend is continuing.

How to prevent homelessness? Let's start with cost of living
How about getting some work and not rely on handouts?
@winnhill3736 I assume you haven't looked at the statistics. A large percentage of the homeless are employed. The average rent in LA is 5000. Add in a car and insurance 1400 a month on the low end utility 800. Now that's 7400 a month. If you lose your job
And it takes 2 months to get another job that's 14800 you owe. How do you come back from that?
@@brandonwhitner4104You move to a region with a lower cost of living.
Over 75,000 homeless people wandering the towns and roads, highways and bridges across California. Entire countries have been invaded and toppled with armies smaller than that. Amazing.

I Was homeless for like 3 years bc I got hooked on meth and only Jesus can truly set you free and gives you power to overcome anything and now im almost 3 years clean. For me the reason I was homeless was my drug addiction and most of the people out there are drugs addicts who are pretty much content with that lifestyle. And in order to truly get out of that lifestyle you have to turn to Him who created you and died for you that you may have a new beginning. Jesus is King
AMEN 🙏
Why did you have to turn to religion to get you out? Why couldn’t you do it on your own?
Good job!

As a homeless person of 15 years who isn't now and has never been a drug addict I don't understand why people need "God" to tell you that if you aren't a doctor, nurse or diabetic that its bad for you to be sticking needles in your arms. It should be something you just instinctually know. Same goes for all those 10 Commandments. You shouldn't need some supreme being to tell you that you shouldn't kill anybody or take things that don't belong to you. It should be something you just know on your own.
Multiply it by 3
Here in San Diego, homelessness is up 22% over a year ago according to the county's own task force statistics. Instead of addressing the issue and taking moves to reduce homeless populations; the county is now making plans to distribute the homeless population into the back country towns; unincorporated towns with no say; that's how they make downtown look better without really resolving the problem. Question is, why do the powers not want to reduce homelessness? They are part of the whole woke movement and will lock you down in a nano second when they are able.
They are receiving multibillion-dollar federal funds then controlling the distributorship to the NGOs minus accountability..
It's s the newly-founded homeless business..
There is always an end Game to ignoring the obvious by those in Power, always. Half these people are probably addicted, mentally ill or violent. The streets are filled with them like something out of a sad Dystopia Novel like the Blade Runner.
It’s drugs

@@thomasauslander3757 I got slammed with a big federal tax bill. I can't afford it, but I'm struggling to pay it. Ironically, more of my pension is taken out, to pay the federal bill NEXT year.
And lets be honest here, there are too many people who have defrauded gov't support money, who have outright robbed it. And all the other infrastructure like water, power, mass transit and so on....are too expensive, broken and mass transit is too unsafe because of the mayhem endangering the public. And not any of it going where people actually have to go.
For all the money spent, our quality of life should damn well be better than this!!
if they counted 75000 there must at least 300,000 Very few homeless want to interact with a counter... in LA county you may have a million total
In 1986 President Reagan granted amnesty to the 15,000,000 illegal immigrants in the United States. And in the 37 years since then another 15 to 20 million have entered this country illegally in the hopes that some future President will offer them the same or similar deal. And you don't see any of them homeless on the streets, because whatever little bit of affordable housing that is still out there is being grabbed up by them. If the ruling class actually wants to solve this problem then tens of millions of dollars needs to be invested in building enough apartments to accomodate all of us, including (and especially) all of the people who were born in this country who are ending up displaced and homeless by the illegal immigrant population. And it needs to happen before people become homeless. Because once that happens nobody actually gives a damn about who they are and what they were doing with their lives before it was disrupted by ending up in the streets and becoming societies pariahs and punching bags.
Same is happening in the UK. The govt welcomes thousands of illegal economic migrants by the day which cross the English Channel from Calais and give them everything. Meanwhile, genuine UK indigenous people who have nothing recieve nothing and live on the streets..
A lot of people are a paycheck away from being homeless
Thanks Biden

La City auditor couldn't figure out where it was going after an audit and El Segundo Times (the worthless toilet paper with print) said it was of no concern. The sales tax should go up another 1% to fund Measure Bendover.
So basically everyone is okay with our tax dollars going to fund these homeless projects?
Cost of living is why I was forced to leave Southern California back at the turn of the century.
Problem is it is happening everywhere which is why Dallas banned AirBnBs on single family homes to cool down housing a little which LA should do too. However if it happens everywhere heat waves are going to drive the homeless to the coasts.
Bass promises to get those numbers up.
Isn't her name "Karen?"😅

Rents/Mortgages keep hitting record numbers and hedge funds keep buying trailer parks and doubling the rent every other week across the whole US and people can't seem to connect the dots with the increase in homelessness.
I know right. It's just an excuse so they don't have to take responsibility 🙄 The government knows why. They just can't take responsibility smh
Karen Bass just keeps spending money and making the problem worse.
Newsom is making a lot of money having homeless😂😂😂
Once upon a time when people had nothing or lost everything they got up and moved. Walk, hitchhike, beg for a bus ticket, move. If not you were called a bum.
They'll say their friends & family live there but apparently they're not helping. I was homeless yrs ago in LA, I worked my way out of it, I quit drugs, moved & got a job.

If you want to slow down homelessness, work on affordable housing. The lowest price Studio in San Diego is $1600 for 285ft. California lets trailer lot fees increase wildly, then wonders why more people are homeless.

Sadly, it's happening in every major city, across the country. i am fighting to not be homeless. On Disability and the rent is more than my entire check. So i spend every day trying to sale my belongings and fund raise. Been homeless in LA, in the 80;s. Now existing in the very hot Phoenix. I see homeless out here every time I go out.
Do you have a GoFundMe? I've got money to give away.
"billions for housing" I have been homeless for 8 years now. I don't use drugs or alcohol, I have major depression, I have never been afforded an opportunity for housing, I have never known anybody to be be housed. Not a cemotherapy 90yo grandma, nor the quadriplegic abandoned at the park. There is simply no help, no one to call, no where to go. So WTF are these billions? I install manufactured homes - when we get calls from La City or County we turn them down right away. The permitting processes is expensive and horrendous. They make it impossible.. to get required permits in a reasonable amount of time..
What is KTLA doing to help this homeless crisis? Other than reporting on it 🤔
Let newson run for president it will look like this coast to coast
We can't let that commie win.
Thanks Gavin.
February of last year I was evicted by court order. I had a commission sales job and I wasn't making any sales after I fell into a deep depression because my son and girlfriend were killed by a drunk driver. A year and a half later I still cannot find any type of housing or shelter. The homeless shelters only help people who use drugs or drink alcohol. Those are things I shall not take part in. The worst part is businesses will not hire homeless people. However, everyone is "hiring." Even though I have experience in banking, accounting, management and retail companies won't hire me because they think I use drugs because I'm homeless. Last year I was jumped and when I arrived at the hospital nurses also assume I was using drugs. They didn't ask, just assumed. It's not like I have a support system because I was a foster kid. Somehow I will figure this all out of my own like I have with everything else in life.
where are the reports that show where these billion of dollars are distributed?
They need to get some government land and start building a place for them outside the city have drug free area counseling rehab and mental health and the ones that want to stay in the streets forced rehab , probation ,and or jail last time I checked it was illegal to be under the influence and in possession help them but we can't allow them to destroy neighborhoods and businesses there filthy and they like being like that and that's unacceptable
Rich, California; what happened to the Projects and Public housing? I'm seeing more and more Grandparents, Older women becoming Homeless, living in Their vans, Cars, Small RV Campers..
The cost of housing has become unaffordable even for city housing projects. A shack the size of a parking space runs 1 million in this city.
A lot of the homeless people are not even from California. That’s what the news isn’t covering and who’s paying state taxes for them?
Agree this is a national issue and other states keep busing people here.
Maybe they should lower the price of rent .everything is so high
to fix this stop taxing on everything. interest insurance are really high.
Where did Karen go?
Which Karen are you referring to?😅
This isn't news, this is the normal each and every year. More money thrown at an ever growing problem. CA is the WORST state to be homeless and try to get back on your feet because of the fact it's way too expensive. Who ever thinks that they'd get back on their feet, even working a full time minimum wage job, and be able to afford rent, car, utilities, food, etc?? Thats why they rather just stay homeless, they don't want the struggles of life and rather just keep getting the free handouts.
Because it wasn't designed for a lot of people to have it like some people have it I think you know where I'm coming in California is the worst place in history altogether!!!
Your gonna go BROKE trying to help these Homeless instead of helping Hard Working People

Stop using the term homelessness. That is offensive to those who are actually homeless. Use the term drug addicts, sex offenders, and life long criminals for these people.
Awesome ! LA continues to prove to the nation that democrat policies can support far more homeless than taxpayers want
34.3% are mentally ill, 8.5% is unemployed, 27.6% gave up on life, 13% are drug addicts, 5% are illegal immigrants and 1% are my relatives from back east.😢

Forcibly remove and medicate if necessary and put them into camps. If they are not functional, they should remain there under the care of the state.
Imagine not working for years thinking you are getting away with something then when you are old you suddenly realize why everyone else has been working their whole life so they can buy a home and not have to sleep on the streets. I was a heroin addict for 20 years but i worked every day i knew that i had to get myself together before i got old because the older you are the harder it is going to get.
What is the minimum wage? Start there well too late.
Lost Angeles is a lost cause...
Part of problem im san diego is tijuana rents skyrocket3d so that escape plan for the poor has been eliminated
More money you spend more homeless people will move here. We need to focus on treatment not housing.
What exactly are you treating? Most of these homeless just wanna get high and refuses to go back home.
Now that's a true statement you made but not all feel that way but most do remember one thing that everybody that's homeless is not necessarily a drug addict neither some people are homeless because of financial situations
oh, you want to figure that out let me tell you 1:45
stop charging seven dollars for gas
stop paying less than it cost to live in the city for a normal job
stop charging $2500 +10 K down for a apartment
One solution to homelessness is to convince employers to hire people with no permanent address. Most employers don’t want to hire anyone without a permanent residence/address. That needs to change! Or make it a law that employers can be sued if they discriminate based on a person’s housing status. But we don’t want they do we???
But then again there is some who can't work because of mental issues and other issues don't forget that to now

We need a mayor?
Get out of Los Angeles County. Move to Sacramento County or Riverside County where there is a lot of affordable housing.
The explosion of squatters occupying city sidewalks, alleys, abandoned buildings Etc it's not the responsibility of the cities in the US.
People cannot expect to move to cities with no job skills, choosing drugs over sobriety, having never invested in their lives up to a point and always dependent upon welfare services.
Unless a person needs to be in a large city for medical or other demanding service they need to move out of the cities.
Billions are spent and the situation is getting worse.
The city shouldve been affordable. They are not building housing fast enough. Tokyo is the capital of Japan and very affordable for most japanese. America has no excuse whatsoever.
@@deadpirateroberts9937 I lived in Japan and I know what you said is a lie. Also, most Japanese people don’t even desire or aspire to live in Tokyo. Many I know dislike it.

But i looked it up. It seemed pretty affordable. At least more than an equivalent density city in the USA.
@@deadpirateroberts9937 The only thing more affordable for Tokyo vs NYC would be health insurance. But for fully employed people in the US this isn’t an issue. There are ways you can live on the cheap in the US too. Gasoline is definitely cheaper. There’s also Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club.

During and after the pandemic people who lost their jobs have been struggling to get back their feet, that explains a lot
So, that's the problem, and not drug addiction?
🙄No, drug and alcohol addictions are practically the “fuel accidentally added to the fire” of the problem, they are the main problem and the pandemic just made it worse…..and worse
@@adamtain7627 You are delusional.
I’m in HR and I can tell you that statistically there are plenty of jobs out there a lot of people just don’t want to put in hard work. So many people took advantage of the pandemic and those perks such as extended/increased unemployment and additional government money. But anyway this isn’t a matter of just being down and out on your luck. Anyone that ended up homeless due to a lack of funds (and not drugs) would not sprawl themselves out in a tent on a streets corner amongst drugs addicts. Normal homeless live in their car or go to a shelter. Last resort is going somewhere alone to stay, like a better neighborhood solo and not in a tent to attract attention.
2:06 Not only does this affect people, but it affects animals to, such as this doggy.
Angelenos should be proud of these stats. They should fly their political pride flags high and wide. Because this is exactly for what they've mindlessly been voting.
What is your solution? Please enlighten us with the solutions the politicians will implement to solve this problem?
@@jaad9848they don’t know. Too busy being mad about pride flags to find actual solutions to homelessness. Maybe ask that hard working transgender person if they need a place to crash and figure things out. Instead of denying that person housing because they are different. Maybe that’s something that could ease up homelessness a little. Or that vet with PTSD? Why not get them a therapy dog, a counselor, a routine, a purpose, a place to live…? Why do we let them struggle? But then people want to celebrate Veterans Day and Memorial Day while they shy away past veterans begging on the median. Our society is so fake. Really we need to just see ourselves in everyone else’s shoes. Americans need to be more empathetic so everyone gets a helping hand.

Living out side the system saves thousands of dollars a month
Still not willing to deal with reality. There are 2 types of people living on the streets in LA, addicts and the elderly (mostly addicts) They don’t want to change and most won’t. Those that are truly down on their luck go to shelters and seek help. Why not get advice from other states that have managed to shut this down? The streets of Vegas are 99% clean (Republican governor cough cough)
How about issue a statewide rent control. Stable rent prices.
How about state-owned housing? Nobody will build an apartment complex if they are guaranteed to lose money.
that solves nothing but makes things worse. folks just don't get it. LA has had rent control since the 70s.. how's that working out. there's just too many people competing for limited options. and with rates high.. the mortgage to rent ratio is completely unprofitable to invest. so now rentals are removed from market .. developers will sell condos instead of apartment rentals etc. it's complicated but usually made worse by dime store politicans thinking they're masterminds of societal order
