    • First Shooting Impress...
    Introducing the new Fujifilm X-Pro3. What's new? The biggest features are physical changes to the body: titanium top and bottom plate, unique rear flip-down hidden articulating screen and rear e-ink sub-monitor. The new X-Pro shares the same sensor and processor as the X-T3 but the firmware has been tweaked with better AF, more in-camera adjustments, new film profile, and other new features. The HVF (Hybrid Viewfinder) is also a huge improvement from the previous version, but again, this does not affect the actual image quality. This is my in-depth overview of all the changes, new features and differences between the other X Series cameras, including the previous flagship X-Pro2. Look for my first shooting impressions video with sample images. Also check out my written review for FujiLove Magazine: fujilove.com/f...

      Sometimes you can take the "retro" theme to unpractical levels. Unfortunately I think Fuji has fallen victim to this. I just don't see it working for most shooters at all. As they say if it ain't broke....

    I really appreciate your offering both a shooting impressions video and this more detailed video. There are tons of first-look reviews this morning, and I think yours is right at the top in terms of detailed review combined with actual shooting impressions. Great job! I remember the film box cover slot very well (especially useful when using multiple bodies) and I also recall Nikon having made a Ti version of the F3.

    I kinda feel my X-H1 beats them all, with the fantastic grip, IBIS, dials and flippy screen. It´s only the faster AF on X-T3/30/Pro3 that beats it, otherwise the X-H1 is superior.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 роки тому +12

      Terje Madsen Yes, from a feature perspective, the X-H1 ‘beats’ the X-Pro3. But like my illustration of a car manufacturer, an SUV will out-feature a sedan or sport car version of the same platform. However, people have different needs. I know many Fujifilm shooter will absolutely not buy the X-H1 because it’s too big and heavy and more than what they need. If the X-H1 (SUV) is the right camera for you, that’s great. However, it might not be for others.

    Call me crazy but I would much prefer this camera with no LCD screen at all like the Leica MD (but keeping the new little screen on the back) and with a straight L shape angle on its right side like the X100f. I love my XPro2 but this design going lower towards the right is something that really bothers me a lot.
    Other than that, no need to change this camera design anymore.
    Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel that Fuji is attempting to touch a niche market (and I think they should) however, they are doing it in a subtle, shy and almost afraid way. I believe they would be much more innovative if they make the changes I suggest in my previous comment. I also think the customers would appreciate even more the X-Pro3. Just keep the production and the price of the X-Pro2 for those who really need or want the LCD and offer a new and really innovative, challenging, desired and special X-Pro 3 for the, let’s say, different level photographers. The way they are doing now will scare the average photographers and make the more experienced ones escheptical .

    If you study the xpro3, you will realize that it was designed for the f2 series of lenses. With that, you also realize that Fuji is going to release new versions of the 1.4 and 1.2 lenses. I'm hoping they're going to arrive soon - maybe 2021?

  • @Michael-pm1tq

    i really hope they put some of the body finishing and structural design elements into the X-T4 and future cameras. I know it might seem really minor, but it looks likes the tripod mount on the X-Pro3 bottom plate is a lot more sturdy than my X-T2. Based on the screw spacing, they may have made the plate that connects the tripod mount to the base wider so the screws are less likely to come loose due to torque.

    Hi Take, thanks for all your great videos. I'm thinking of treating myself something and are thinking of buying a Leica Q (not Q2) or maybe a X-Pro3. I'm already in the Fujifilm ecosystem with the X-E3 and have also some nice lenses. I feel the Leica Q would be bigger joy than another Fuji camera with spec upgrades. How would you decide if money is not an issue (since both cameras are quite expensive and I don't need either of them)?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 роки тому +1

      If you want something different, then the Leica Q sounds like a great 'different' camera. It's a leaf shutter lens camera, much like the X100 series, so you can do some pretty cool things with it that you can't do with a camera with a regular focal plane shutter. As long as you enjoy the 28mm lens I think you're good. The Leica Q is a great camera.

    • @lamaludwig1470
      @lamaludwig1470 4 роки тому

      bigheadtaco thanks for your response. Owning the X70 I think 28mm is great for a fixed lense system because it’s wide enough for landscape and architecture and also suitable for street. I’m leaning towards the Q because of the handling and expected Image quality and look. So again thanks for your answer and cheers from Switzerland. I’m also curious that at a $200 premium Fuji couldn’t include a matching hot shoe cover. I actually use the coveres and it’s called “hot” for a reason. I’m sure there’s room in that $200 for a $2 cover.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 роки тому +4

      As a reviewer I get an early pre-production copy. Once it’s released I will check out the production copy. A real reviewer will re-review once it’s released. A UA-cam influencer will only review it once and only superficially to get the views, but they don’t really care about the camera because they’re already preparing for the next pre-production review. It’s a different way of reviewing than what I do, but as a viewer you have to decide who to listen to. The advantage of having a ‘reviewer’ look at a camera is that we have experience shooting with a very wide range of gear and can pick out details that a regular consumer often will miss. The disadvantage is, as you mention, we may only have it for a week or sometimes even days. Again, that’s why I re-test with a production copy.

      @oliverlison 4 роки тому

      @@bigheadtaco No, I am not familiar with the Pentax 67 shutter sound but I can imagine a fat clunky sound. I also have a Nikon f3 that I am still using today which has a solid sound too.
      I remember some shutters, for instance D7100, that have quite mode. But because how the quiet mode works (some sort of elliptical motion), it has become difficult taking pictures at slow hand-heldable shutter speeds without camera shake. Of course the D7100 has a flipping mirror which the Fuji cameras do not have...
      Have you made any negative experiences with quiet modes on mirrorless? I am not into mirrorless yet and for me is only a FF on option. So I want need to wait for Nikon's next generation.

I wonder why Fuji didn't remove the tripod mount at the same time because who wants to look through an EVF when working off a tripod-not that this is the only problem with the design. It looks amazing! The things I hoped for came true like a bigger EVF, but I was also hoping the pricing would be more like the X-T3 when it was released lower than the X-T2. The Titanium was not necessary and put the price in a higher than necessary level.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 роки тому +2

      Because it’s still built in Japan, I don’t know if the titanium itself was the single reason why it’s more expensive. Remember the X-T3 is now assembled in China, which helps keep the price down. The target market for the X-Pro3 is probably someone who’s a bit older, has money, perhaps an existing Leica shooter or a film shooter.

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 4 роки тому +1

      wanakmalarief WAN ABD RAHMAN I think he is referencing how they removed the dual magnification OVF that the X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 had. For wider lenses like the 18mm, it would turn into a 0.36x OVF to fill whole view with 18mm frame lines. Then for lenses like the 35mm, it would insert a magnifying lens to change the OVF to 0.64x. Again to fill OVF with framelines for 35mm lens. The X-Pro3 has like a 0.52x magnification. So it doesn’t cover the 18mm framelines or they will be very far out at edge and hard to see. Similarly with a 35mm lens the framelines will be small and in the center. I’m sure this compromise of the OVF was necessary to cut costs and work with better EVF.

  • @Thomas_Geist

    Anyone else notice that the high refresh rate on the EVF only works if you have the shutter button down? I have BOOST on. That doesn't happen on either my H1 or T2. Did I just get a bad one? If not, KEEP YOUR PRO2. Not cool.

  • @Walkdthock

    Great review man! I would just like to ask about your xpro3. I recently got it and I noticed that sometimes, even if im in single frame mode, when I take a series of photos where I continuous click the shutter button(esp. the last click where my finger stays pressed on the shutter button), some of the clicks give me multiple photos instead of just one making it seem that I get random burst around 2-4 shots from one click. But sometimes it’s kinda random. Not sure if I got a faulty copy or the shutter is just too sensitive or if I missed something on the menu. I made sure I have same settings with my xt4 and this issue doesnt exist on my xt4. I’m really worried now cos I sold a bunch of my gear just to fund the dura black and your reviews made me go for it. Hope you can help me somehow. Thanks.

      Rediscover Film it’s not really about having it on/off actually. I like the idea of having the camera look as analog as possible. The average person in the street may think you have a film camera. I would rather have no screen at all, just a flat empty back. The small screen and the word “delete” gave it away. I have my Xpro2 rear screen off all the time. The only time I need it on is when I am working with a client (when they ask to see the shots I made). Which is why the Xpro3 idea of the “hidden” LCD, is the closest to what I have hoped for. Olympus did something like this in their PEN line sometime ago, which I thought was pretty cool.

  • @Thomas_Geist
    @Thomas_Geist 4 роки тому

    If Fuji is into color I wonder why they can’t or won’t match the Fuji-cron silver lenses with any of their camera bodies. I bought a T3 in “silver” along with a “silver” 35mm f2 lens. Should look really cool, right? Not. Compared to the lens the T3 body looks a blueish zinc color, but definitely does not match. I find that really strange they’d make silver lenses and not bother making a camera body that matches. On another review they are calling the new Pro3 as not really silver. No telling what that means but I’ve given up assuming it will match my silver lens.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 роки тому

      The silver lenses match the X-T20 better. But you’re right, the materials and the mixture of the metals are different. The X-T3 has a magnesium alloy top, but the lens material is different. Matching these various types of metals are difficult since the base metals are different. They did a great job on the X-Pro2 Graphite and matching lens, but that was a one-off only.

    • @Thomas_Geist
      @Thomas_Geist 4 роки тому

      bigheadtaco Are you sure? I thought the bodies and lenses are all painted. It’s not raw metal...I think. Olympus matches. Of course Leica. I had a Contax G1 with 3 Zeiss prime and flash. All perfectly matched champaign. You have more cameras than anyone, I’m sure you’ve noticed other manufacturers match all the stuff up.
      Thanks for the reply. Love your reviews! Being a little hardware crazy is not a bad thing. I think I’d still buy cameras to collect if I never used them at all. I just love well made precision things.

    Man, there is no need for that. Fujifilm has X-T3 for digital photographers. This camera is not for them. THIS CAMERA IS NOT FOR THEM. So, no need for them to buy it and trying hard to convince Fujifilm to change the way the screen works because that is just stupid. You hear me guys? N O T F O R Y O U! Go get an X-T3. Capisci?

      Does he? The screen choice and its limitations are pretty self-evident. Anybody in the market for a camera of this type knows what they are getting... As you said, an X-T3 will probably suit most users better than this camera. In what way was Take being misleading? It seems to me to be a pointless complaint... Fujifilm is giving you options. This is a niche product, hence the price premium and added complication of the hybrid viewfinder.

One person even used an old can opener. My advise...save the $200 and JUST DON'T DO THAT! I would have paid for the silver version had Fuji made any attempt at all matching the f2 "fujicron" silver lenses, but I knew that wasn't going to happen any more than loosing the dopy dip on the dial deck. I'll probably get a nice ordinary black one anyway and keep it far away from any key wielding maniacs roaming the street.

    I'm a little disappointed that Fuji has gone for TIFF output for in-camera presets. I think that a modern compressed format like JPEG 2000 is the way to go. Smaller files, yet with fine detail and lots of colour depth. Why are still shooting TIFF, RAW or JPEG? All should be replaced by now! I advocate for two related things: getting it right in camera, therefore making RAW processors redundant; and replacing RAW with JPEG 2000 (or something else). Fuji got the first part right, now they can work on the second. Do you think that JPEG2K could be added as a firmware update?
