Colin can you help answer a question please? 🙏 I record my audio tracks (vocals & guitars) in mono but I noticed that after they are recorded they sometimes sound better if I click the input button and change it to stereo mode. I have a feeling I shouldn't do that though. Is it wrong to change the track to stereo after I've recorded in mono?? (Why does it sometimes sound better?)
Hi Colin! So I tried sample delay on the song I’m working on which only has 1 guitar and is my prominent source (other than vocals) I liked the way it sounded until I went to mono and then the guitar became really hard to hear. So I tried stereo spread on it instead and it sounds better in mono but I’m not sure if I’m using it right or when I should be adding it. So, can I use stereo spread on a single source and should I do it before or after I EQ? Right now I’m doing it before and I put it at the bottom of my plugin chain. (Honestly, I think sample delay sounded better but, like I said, not so great in mono). Thanks, Colin!
Hey Kim! If you are open to it, you'll always get a more natural sound by adding a stereo recording (by which I mean 2 separate recordings panned left and right). I just listened to the song (really great, by the way!). If I were recording it, I'd record a left and right guitar that come in on the choruses to help make it "big" and keep it a mono guitar in the verses. Even if they are all playing the same part, it will sound huge.
@@TheBandGuide thanks so much, Colin! I just got all your replies btw and I’m just THRILLED that you like my song! I had thought about doing exactly as you suggested above but I wasn’t sure if that was an acceptable practice to only do choruses. I think I’ll give it a try, maybe starting on the 2nd chorus where it really starts to build...idk I’ll experiment with it! Thank you again so much for everything!
