DIY Mountain Board - How to make
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 сер 2016
- Making a homemade DIY mountain board by bent laminating plywood, scrap metal tub and some 10” tires from Harbor Freight. This isn’t a homesteading or practical project, but it was a ton of fun and a good way to develop my skills further. If you like this project, here are a couple more that you may like that involve laminated wood. The first is a pallet wood axe handle project and the second is making a Curvy Board for my daughter. I hope you guys enjoy and please consider subscribing for future updates about DIY, homesteading and other random projects☺
Here is a link for the pneumatic tires, it's an amazon one and I'll receive a small commission if you buy via the link. But search around and you might find a cheaper source as well:)

i cant believe you made trucks so cool man
thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it CX:)
Cx Stark I know right I can't find any other video with diy trucks
I like this. I am currently building this but got confused when I noticed the trucks went up and down but didn't swivel. Then after I watched the vid again, I realized you put them on the kick plates so they move on an angle creating the swivel. Otherwise the thing wouldn't turn. Thanks. Can't wait to finish it.
lucky kids to have such a great father,,, beautifully made board...
Very cool. I don't skateboard, but that looks stable enough (and fun enough) that I could see myself trying. Nice work on the mechanics, looks very clean.
Thanks so much Ben!
Joe
Most definitely not. But I understand why you would think that because as you said you don't skateboard. I've been skating for 30 years now as if it this year. I still surf and snowboard even though I am 37 years old. Still skate very a few times a week. I also ride my electric skateboards probably three or four times a week on average and have built a few mountain boards but not like this The boards that I have built are near replica of the BajaBoards. But instead of $6,000 it only cost me about $2,900 because I built all my own battery cells and printed my own ECS's and BMS's. No I'm not trying to like belittle this guy because I think it's cool that he built this And it is by far more than most men of these days can do so I commend him for trying. But in regards to being a safe or comfortable board to ride at any high speeds whatsoever is in an accurate assumption. Anything over about 17 mph on that thing and you're getting it to territory where you could get seriously hurt on it even if you know what you're doing
You can build anything. Very impressive.
Congratulations on your work! I'm Brazilian and I really admire the style of doing it yourself! a big hug
Great video and great project! Now you just need to add a motor.
Thanks so much Vino Farm! Yes, a motor would make the uphills much easier:)
Joe
Vino Farm I agree
yep
.
No no.... you need to add a KITE!!! 😁
Genius! Congratulations from Argentina! Is very cool!
You did a great job on nailing the side to side steering it still looked like the springs were not strong enough would you tell me the compression strength of the springs I would have used 60 80 pound springs I weigh around 200 lbs
I love that you built everything to make this board a reality.
Thanks sir sharing. Hoping I can build one of my own soon for wind boarding. Keep you posted.
This is so friggin awesome! I need on of these... with a handle ... and seat. Got busted knees...
Now time to put a motor on it, great project and video.
haha... yes, but that might be past my skill level...lol!
Joe
Nope u can do it!!
it's just a research thing :) , everyone can do it
Dude do it! And if it works Im gonna make one myself!
My buddy made one that ran off of alcohol and damn that thing was fun. He's a mechanic so im sure it was easy for him. This 49cc engine looks promising for those that aren't mechanically inclined such as me.

No words to describe how genius this is 😛
Thanks so much P Skillz!

Hello liked your video, I want to repeat something like that, could you give me the blueprints? Thank you very much in advance!

So much craftsmanship in one video, awesome !
This suspesions is doing ok. It looks like it takes fine turns. Great job.
Blew my mind with the trucks
Thanks so much Nate!

homesteadonomics what size square tubing did you use? And what strength springs did you use?

Super great, I love the DIY truck!!
Thanks Paul! sorry for the super slow response... I went on a week long camping trip and just got back a couple days ago... fun trip though:)
TOTALLY awesome!!! I wasn't expecting you to make the tracks as well and it blew my mind. total thumbs up!!
Thanks so much Cactus WS!
Joe
Awesome! I had skateboards as a child, I wish I had one of those. Multi million dollar idea!
Good Job, How are the bearings holding up in the wheels?
That is just bad Ass! I've seen other channels make boards but I've never seen anyone make the trucks to go along with it. Can't wait for the pallet wood parachute harness build. ;-)
Thanks Lyle! Yes, the parachute harness is gonna be a difficult one... might be my last video;)
Joe
@@homesteadonomics lol😂
I found this skateboard on Amazon. Check it out: amzn.to/36zTpTt
Bought a couple of these from Sam's Club 20yrs ago for my kids. They also work well as 4 wheel dollies to move heavy objects around.
very cool, love the truck design. i was looking for an off-road skateboard i could use daily to get around with here in jamaica
nice project Joe.
Thanks so much Tory!
Joe
Love the build, currently building one of my own. I even have the same Harbour Freight wheels. Question what size threaded rod did you use to mount these and is there a commercial one available? Cause I don't own a welder. Or is it possible for you to build and sell it to me?
Thanks for checking it out Jadea... I believe it was 5/8" rod. that's what the bore size is listed as on the HF site. Unfortunately I don't sell these things as most are just one of a kind projects that I do for fun. But if you can find a buddy who has access to a welder it's not that hard to make. I'm not a very good welder... so it can definitely be done. As for commercial rods... I'm not sure if they are or aren't available
Anyways, hope that helps a little:)
Joe
this is super cool! thank you for sharing!
That's pretty cool. My son would like that.
Great work! Now send it to braille, they skate everything :)
Are you kidding??? I love braille, but they break EVERYTHING!
chintu type gt9e
OMG do it!!!! Braille skateboarding is awesome!
Ben Bowman123 kidnappé
Aaron wil heelflip the five with it
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE MEASURES OF TRIPLAY? (WIDTH, LONG AND THICKNESS) I WANT TO DO ONE LIKE YOU DID... THANK YOU SO MUCH
You have an amazing mind! Keep Up the Good Work!
That was pretty awesome.. My son is 11 and asking to buy a skateboard, If we work on something like this I think he would use it more. Plus he would be the only kid around here with something like this.
now add an electric motor and its nearly perfect :D
(maybe build a folding version so it size is like a briefcase)
I found this skateboard on Amazon. Check it out: amzn.to/36zTpTt

wonder if one could add a windsurfing-sail to that ☺
Now that's a cool idea! we do get the winds up here for sure!
Joe
Yea, please try it! I would love to see that in video!

People already do with kites
Nice project. I'd imagine with the weak springs you would have a problem with wheel bite. I would of loved to have this when I was a kid and sent to oklahoma to the family ranch to keep me from getting in trouble back home.
Super vid and super board. I think i'd fit a handle to one end so i didn't need to carry it. Keep up the good work.
great work looked at the entire video, and I got interested in that myself if I would actually say the same of course, if valid would like to ask how long brought skate board is and how wide🤓😇🤘😁
you should make a really detailed article on how to make this
Eli Pineda you're watching it
freak in awesome! As I used to do my paper route on one of those, it reminds me of all the fun that can be had. Thanks.
Awesome! thanks for watching David!
joe
Hi
Wish I saw this sooner!!! Love your truck design!!!!
Just wondering, could you use ratchet straps as a way of clamping?
I actually used ratchet straps on my curvy board video which is made of the same identical wood that this was... but in this case it was just easier to use the other clamps as last time I ended up getting a bunch of clue in my ratchet mechanism...lol
how much does it cost for the materials
amazing! next is to upgrade add motor(electric or gas)
This is awesome!
I've been wanting to do something similar but didn't quite know where to start and now I do!! Thank you
Glad you liked it FNS's :)
Joe
Such a cool project man, keep it up! :) fun to watch you make and explain while doing so! :)
you should make this electric
WIESARTIST yeah he should motorize it to get all the fun
Samir Faras why
@Samir Faras why?
you can post it a electric motor? sorry for my english wecause i'm from Spain

🇧🇷 I'M BRAZILIAN, i'ts so easy i see, Like me, very good guy!!
that deck looks nice but needs some reinforcement. I like the stain work you did to it and the whole build is really impressive! you're a very intelligent keep up the good work.
from where did u get these wheels
There golf buggy wheels
where did you find those wheels
Harbor Freight:)
Awesome! I love it! Always enjoy these projects! Thanks for the walk through. I just might have to make this one day for my kids.
Thanks Michael! It was a fun one... you're kids will love it!
Joe
love it bro I have looking how to build my own trucks for over a year and I came up on this video of yours thanks bro a lot I appreciate your video
Great build. Looks almost bullet-proof. But come on, show us the bloopers. We all know you took a header or three on the first runs. :)
hahaha... my co-worker wanted me to ride it with the welding mask on... not sure if you've seen that video but there is a major blooper in that one. But actually I never did crash really bad... a few stumble offs but nothing crazy:) But this probably wont be the only 'wheeled' thing I make... so maybe a good blooper will come up soon enough....lol:)
joe
send it to braille
Luz Olivares before that put an engine on the back 😂😂
If I could like this twice I would, Always love your projects man!!
Moving into my first home.. Can't wait to get into building these types of projects in my garage.. Also, you can add a piece of metal to the nose to act as a bumper/handle to carry that thing back up..
That's a great idea Robert! Congrats on the first home too! You're gonna love getting into garage projects... it's my hobby:)

Who seen Naruto? 7:27

Don't push with your front foot but you can do whatever
haha... I'm not a good skate by any means...so mongo it is;)

Hi my names Ben and I'm twelve unlike normal kids I like to build things other than sit on x box all day . I have tried to build these trucks before but I can't get it correct can you send me a truck that I can copy and put on my long board that I made if it is possible I can give you my email and we could get in contact about it
Yours sincerely Ben
Ben Rimmer why don't you just weld your own trucks little dude
I don't have a welder or an of the materials
take metal shop when you get into high school
good luck👍👍
Just buy some cheap ones
Amazing! That's excellent! You're creative and you did a very good job. I'm interesting to do the same.
Thank you for sharing
Cheers,
Alain from France & Switzerland
Thanks for the kind words Alain! Great to hear from Switzerland and France.. .would love to visit someday:)
Joe
Great video! Im thinking about building something similar. Have you tried some heavier gauge spring
Excellent job!! True craftsmanship. That thing is beautiful. You make it look too easy!
Thanks so much! It was a super fun project and totally more fun than I expected too:) glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
Joe
This man can build every thing 🔥
Awesome build! Thanks. Personally I think it is very practical for a homestead. Gotta have some fun to offset all that work. Keeps the mental state in balance.
Yes, you are very right... things like this keep my mind going... sometimes too much though...haha! But it keeps me inspired to try things a bit out of the box:)
Joe
Thanks, GREAT project!!
great craftsmanship!!! awsome board man ! nice work !
Amazing. I've made my own board before, but I've always bought my trucks. It didn't even occur to me that I could make my own trucks!! Thanks for this awesome video!
Glad you liked it Gabby!
joe
oh man, i missed this one. nice job!
Great project. I would have put thin layers of plastic such as UHMD between the triangle halves to eliminate steel on steel rubbing. Just a suggestions.
This was INSANE! Congratulations, man!
Awesome
Last few seconds were awesome
Daughters are God's direct gifts.
Yeah, but can you ollie on it😁
Okay, the board cam at end is epic, love that view and 06:48🐕 is like, wow nice work.
During the project my eyes got so big when I saw the 1 gallon size glue, and I was like, hell yeah.
(Edit, timestamps was slightly off)
Eres un crack !! Mola mucho lo que haces !!! gracias por compartirlo !
Wasn't expecting you to fabricate your own trucks! Nice job man!
Thanks Chris! It was a super fun project and the trucks were actually the thing I was worried about. I figured it would work but wasn't sure if it would be smooth or not... and surprisingly they worked better than I expected:) Very gushy with the first springs but the stiffer ones are much better:)
Joe
Very nice craftsmanship. Excellent homemade trucks. I've got to do one of these.
Thanks so much GK52!
Joe
Great build! That thing turns really good. Great for tight trails and such. Great vid, Joe. Cheers!
Thanks RI! It was an awesome fun project to do. I probably won't ride it too often but it has been fun so far!
Nice project and boy what a view!
Tu eres todo un genio. Felicitaciones me gustó mucho tu video. Soy Sebastian de Rosario Argentina
I was on the fence concerning which route to take getting a mountainboard. After watching this I immediately pulled the trigger on a TOL MBS. Must be nice to have all that time.
Awesome board!!!! And also the turning system is awesome,AND built from scratch
Thanks Teo! It was totally a fun project that I wasn't sure would turn out... but end the end it worked better than I expected:)
Joe
Sweet mountain board!
You're a genius!
Great video, great image quality thanks a lot!
Love this project ! It came out beautiful !!!!
Thanks TCU!
joe
love your work.
That's s great project. Good job.
Thanks Myk!
Joe
Amazing build. I will try this. Can you please add the description for the materials and there sizes for the trucks that u built
Now that's what I call a from scratch build! Very cool I would add bindings but that's just me.
Thanks so much Wendy!
Joe
amazing build!
Que agradable ver este video amigo me encanto tu longboard un trabajo muy profesional
Wow indeed u have a golden hands! Thats what i love about people who make their own stuff not buying stuff from big corporations and putting more money into the greedy bastards pockets! Keep up the good work and much love form Estonia!
Thanks so much Rep! Great to hear from Estonia!
Joe
What a great project Joe and it was nice to see that dad was spoiling himself and having some fun. Have we been introduced to your dog, he looks cute and wags his tail every time you go passed !
Thanks Tony! sorry for the slow response... camping for the last week or so since I posted this video:)
And yes, the dog has kinda been a community dog for the last several years and recently she adopted us. Her original owners had some health issues and had to leave to go to another state and basically everyone who lives around here has just fed and cared for her in their absence. She was that type of dog that would just leave for several days and live in the desert and come back when she pleased. But for the last 6 months she's kind of a adopted us and stays with us almost exclusively now. Wish we had here at an earlier age as she has just been the best and sweetest dog:)
She looks like a real four legged friend.
man!!!! u make it look so easier to build thanks for the diy
Glad you liked it Sharad:)
joe
i did like it man :P i have done the same with the truck i have the wheels board is full on heavy duty metal but im building electric ones its still in process
Now after years later im working it on the wooden deck as you did.
thanks for the great tutorial ! ;-)
That’s fantastic!!! Could you do a video of making bindings for that board?
I have a mountainboard clothing brand, Anarchy Peaks and I want to make a mountainboard. I currently ride an MBS Atom 90X, it’s great but I take issue with a few things but that’s what I’ll improve on.
A really great video, The board and trucks 👌
Oh man that looks like fun thanks for sharing hahahahaha I want to build one now
This is really awesome. Even i am trying to make my own mount board. I am tierd finding this type of skating board at online. So i am going to make my own and ur video really inspired me. Just it is going to be beat hard to make. Good luck and please make more video like this.....
thanks soo much for the truck assembly idea
