I just discovered this on UA-cam and it brought back all the fond memories of lovely New Zealand. Roger, you're as high spirited as always, great movie!
+Dariusz Adamiuk Hi Darek, so the internet is all pervasive and you have found me! Glad you enjoyed the movie - it was a great trip we did last year.Hope all is well. You can email me on roma.aotea@gmail.com love to hear what you have been up to.
I know this is June 2018 now, but I went and looked up what is "Required". One yachtsman best described it as formidable. Thanks for sharing this with us and greetings from Africa.
Wonderful work Roger. The crew, the boat, the footage; it's all fantastic. I watch a lot of sailing videos, but I've watched this one three times. Cheers!!
Wow! GREAT FILM AND ADVENTURE ROGER. I loved it and in my opinion, this is the best ocean passage video I have seen. And I have watched quite a lot of them. Thanks so much. Great boat indeed. Sincerely John Huntley S/V Soulmate Vancouver Island B.C., Canada
John H. Thanks for the great endorsement John, it certainly was a great trip and lots of fun making the video. Will we now see S/V Soulmate on a passage to Fiji? regards Roger
Fantastic, really heartwarming to watch such good people on a lovely boat. theres a comfort that comes with your age and experience that I'm sure the girl onboard will benefit from. Ive seen a lot of vids by panicky people but your relaxed fun attitude made it look like a trip done "how it should be done". Classic salt of the earth kiwis. proud of you.
Hi Tamariki crew, I discovered your videos a few days ago and was going to invite you south to Bluff and Stewart island when... whatdoyaknow...you've already been here!
thanks for this lovely video, interesting and very entertaining, excellent soundtrack, at around 12 minutes in the video, let you feel so comfortable, a perfect fit. could you tell me, who is the artist....
+Stephen L Thanks for the comment.Tamariki was my friends boat, I sail a Robert Perry 42 which you can see here ua-cam.com/video/UoTAgVepDPs/v-deo.html The Hunter 386 is a great yacht too- seen a few down this way :)
+farhan muhammad Hi, thanks for the comments. The app is Navionics and I downloaded the charts of the area we were sailing onto the memory card of the phone so no cellphone signal is required to use the app. It was awesome and not expensive. cheers Roger
I thoroughly enjoyed your video documentary of your voyage. Great footage and excellent music. Could you tell me more about the 45' timber ketch, what's the design? It appeared to be a very beautiful ship. I really like the wooden mast. I've heard that you New Zealanders have a strong tradition of building you own boats. Is she custom built?
Tamariki was designed by Gary Wheeler in NZ, loosely based on a Herreshof Mobjeck as a one off design. She was built by Gary and the owner over about 3 years. She was originally a centre boarder, but last year was converted to a fixed lead keel . She sails better now (according to her owner) and is a very well found yacht. The varnished timber masts are a highlight as are her tan sails. Glad you enjoyed the voyage.
+S/V Boadecia Journey through refit and beyond Diesel is 2 x 250 litre tanks feeding a sole marinised mitsubishi 3.6 litre 4 cyl. naturally aspirated diesel
We used the large genoa on a roller curler, a smaller staysail if it got windy, the main which had 2 reefing options and the mizzen if required. Tucked away below was a mizzen staysail and storm jib.
The QUALITY of your sound is REAL! Your gear is superb for this. The sound made this video so much more realistic, whatever mic you used. what kind of mic was it anyway? I heard the low thumps of the waves hit your boat, on my subwoofer and experienced the ocean i a way never before, since i have never sailed. Thank you so much for the vid!@ The quality of the video is superb also, great viewing!! I especially like the shots down teh side of the craft, where you can see down low along the swells and side of craft, it shows some great details of what it must be like. Great work!!
Thanks for your generous comments on the sound. I only used the sound recorded directly to my go pro and Canon 7D. The go pro was mostly in a sealed waterproof housing, but maybe the housing was quite good at picking up the lower frequency sound. I can't say i have listened closely with a subwoofer, so must be luck to capture it. I know sound is important to get a sense of a place. cheers Roger
One of my favorite sailing documentaries by far. Truly appreciate you posting.
Well done to all involved!
Thanks a lot , glad you enjoyed it :)

TAMARARIKI´S 2014 DOCUMENTARY
BRAVO :) Great doco.
Great vid.
loved it , thanks
My mate was lost over board going to fiji earlier this year on a boat called Platino
I am very sorry to hear that. I thought how tough it would be in a rough sea when things break, when I heard about the yacht Platino. My condolences.
Roger Mills yea i was just going to start learning to sail with him
awesome video.. Can you tell me what mobile app for navigation you were using at 33:30? thanks
+farhan muhammad Hi, thanks for the comments. The app is Navionics and I downloaded the charts of the area we were sailing onto the memory card of the phone so no cellphone signal is required to use the app. It was awesome and not expensive. cheers Roger
thanks for the early reply, looking forward for some new videos from you.
I totally agree with the rabbit moon, on a full moon its called a full rabbit.
She has such an easy graceful motion. Sweet.
Awesome thanks
Glad you enjoyed it :)

Roger Mills What sort of price would it fetch. (If you don't mind me asking).
Awesome video. The swells always look smaller on video. How much diesel do you carry for the trip to fiji? What type of engine?
+S/V Boadecia Journey through refit and beyond Diesel is 2 x 250 litre tanks feeding a sole marinised mitsubishi 3.6 litre 4 cyl. naturally aspirated diesel
very good
How does the boat ride with the new lead keel, have you noticed a difference. Is it more stable?
Rick Nelson much more stable, less roll, and of course points much higher.
What is a category 1 clearance?
NZ safety requirement for sailing overseas.
Ok Roger thanks
great doc... what sails are on the boat?

Thanks Roger. I should have asked about the brand cause I like the color. ;-0
