You are absolutely right Scott. When I had to start working, I didn't know what to do. So I started something that interested me. But it was not my passion. I worked in so much different jobs & buissenes to find it. Now I'm 30 and finally found it. So try everything in your younger Days to find your Career. 80% of getting in shape is diet. I'm 43, 30 years plant based. I workout about 20 min a day 4-5 days as week and I'm in better shape than the average 20 year old. Hell I'm in better shape than 20 year old me.

Just wait until you are in your 60's, lol. Fortunately, I still get to the gym 3-4 times a week. The key is not to become complacent or lazy. Beer is not your friend.
@@ruschev2 I’ve cut down to smoking it only 4 times a week and I’m trying to get down to eating it twice a week and smoking it only once a week and then maybe stopping it by next year
Great advice, Scott. Agreed lot of people are lazy or have the mindset "if it ain't mine, who cares?" I'm always amazed at the amount of people that are lazy or don't give a shit. Even just take maintenance at my apartment. They're nice guys, but holy shit do they do a crummy job. The mentality is basically: hurry up and do it as fast as possible. The mentality you SHOULD have is: do the best job you can, no matter what your job is. It doesn't matter if you're a software developer, grocery bagger, fast food worker, or maintenance worker. I guarantee you that you will go farther if you have that mentality, rather than just slapping things together. Unfortunately it's definitely in the minority these days. Agreed with Scott on being self sufficient. That's another big one I'd impart on the youth these days.
@@ScottHermanFitness I would venture to guess we'd agree on quite a bit, haha. It was just how I was raised: do your best job, always. And I think it's a great attitude.

he's right - the other day, i had to troubleshoot a problem with my stereo - fixed it myself, learned a lot about the components - and it was a mood-lifter, having completed the task with a good outcome.
Like you said, never too late. I didn't start working out until my late 40s. Now in my 50's, have a hard time gaining muscle. What you said about maintaining strikes a cord. Definitely easier to gain earlier in life and maintain that, then trying to gain later. In the end, I'm happy I'm healthy, as I used to have high blood pressure, but the training has fixed that (was over-weight) and I no longer have to take heart meds!
I'm a 54 year old mother of three adult children. Once they became adults I took MY life back. I workout 4-5 times a week and am in the bast shape of my life since my 20s. Over the years of raising my children I always put myself last. Never again! Like you stated in your video, take pride in doing things for yourself. I have always done this with home projects i.e, replace light fixtures, sink faucets and even all the switches and plugs all by myself. I cannot express how much pride this give me. It does kinda intimidate the men though.
You are a great, precious mother who has made many sacrifices, but now kids should be paying you back somehow with some time and effort, but in this society kids move onwards forgetting where they came from thinking about their future whilst the parents usually always look backwards and reminisce about the past. But good on you, for making the initiative and making the most of what you got because we ain't getting any younger. And a man who is doing his job properly wouldn't be intimidated. He would only be intimidated if he is a lazy guy who knows he is lacking himself, which should give him the idea to "man" up. Your kids will know your situation when they themselves have children.
@@zoomermcboomer4771 Pay back? No no no! So I am going to raise kids only to say "now pay me back" while they struggle on their own life? It shouldn't be about that. It should be about seeing your kids grown up and you are happy for them making their own ways and achieving what they believe in is right. Either they will have heart and help out or either they not, but tho shall not expect be re-payed and expect something back. If I get kids I will never think "They should repay me with something like giving me money because for everything I have done for them". That will give the kids guilty feelings and regrets of even being born (whoever they are in person) and ashamed for no reason when you as parent decided to raise kids and fight for children who didn't choose to become guilty. Its like I suddenly would hand you over one of the greatest gifts ever and a year later tell you to re-pay me for what I have done for you. Im not judging or anything. Im only telling what I see it on a whole. My opinion. Why should they re-pay? They should decide by themselves and will do so in love. If you are asking to be re-payed then what gift do you get in getting re-payed? You will feel nothing, because it will be meaningless because they didn't show their love for you! Get it? Lets say this: I have raised you and you are 24 (nothing personal don't get mad its an example) and you have reached a lot of wealth or maybe not. But what kind of thoughts would I have then as parent? I wouldn't be there to appreciate you but rather my self need. Maybe you can expect this but you should never say it or mention, it is not right in my logic. I would rather have my children humble themselves and come to me by their free will and they now know consequences of their bad actions already but yet its their choice. I would rather not seeing it as "they must re-pay for what I have done for them". I want them to be humble themselves instead. But if I needed help and they shout and shut me out I would be disappointed and sad for they do not love me for what I have done for thee . And ye they leave me for themself. Thanks for reading. Its just my thought and tell me what you think. I respect you still and don't judge you but rather don't see the purpose of "re-pay me". It should be about humbleness and love. And I don't write this for a bad purpose but rather giving and receiving. Im 17 years old btw and want to say aswell sorry for this long text and if it offended you I want to say sorry. I didn't mean anything bad. In best regards - Nick
I'm 38 and I feel all the unintended damages I caused my life is beyond repair. Every thing I go for in life has failed, but I came REAL close to getting. I hope I can repair any damages I did to myself, because I don't want to be 40 and still have a dark future because I'm having a tough time finding work now because COVID put a lot of business here gone.
I started getting my health together in my late 20’s and I’m always listening to my body when it comes to working out and nutrition, also I’m always pushing myself to always get stronger
Hey Scott currently I am 21 years old. And I am facing a problem that I have been having since I was a child. I DON'T LOOK MY AGE. Meaning I always looked like a little boy compared to my age. When I was in grade 6 I use to look like I was in grade 3. And when I was in class 11 I use to look like I was in 6th. So I hate my body. And now that I am 21 and been lifting weights for over 2 years I still look younger than my age. I am still stuck in a plateau for like months now because I am not eating enough calories. Because I am a fucking idiot. I aspire to join the special forces because I am genuinely passionate about it. And if I join SF only then I will gain respect for myself. That will be the turning point in my life. And trust me sometimes I just feel like exiting this body. Like I don't want this body. So indirectly I mean committing suicide but if I can replace my body then I will live my life. Otherwise joining special forces is the only way which will help me gaining some respect for myself. Because I am sick and tired of being called out for not looking my age. I am sick and tired of being short. I feel that if I join SF all or at least most problems in my life WILL COME TO AN END. So I don't know how life will be in my 30s but if God forbid I couldn't make it to SF then I may do something very bad to myself. Because I don't want to see my life in my pathetic body. Let it be 30s or even 90s. But yes if my body is good then I will continue to live my life
hey i look older than my age. Im 22 and look 30. Its almost offensive to me and imagine when im 50 i might look 70 and you might look 40 at 50 years old. Pluses and minuses.
Hey Para, don't get down about looking younger my friend. It can actually be a good thing! You might not notice it yet, but it will! I'm 36 and people say I look like I'm in my 20s! As for changing your body, you always can man. If you hadn't been eating enough to grow, then you can change that now and start growing. Head up man, you got this! www.MuscularStrength.com/forum
I can relate with your body image issues as someone who has been going bald early since his late teens. I'm in my late 20s now and now that I've found myself more and the body image issues have mellowed down, I just wanted to tell you there is a lot of hope at the end of the tunnel, you just have to push yourself for character growth during the shittier parts of your life. I've also found externalising validation and your sense of self worth is counter productive, as you're always going to feel like yourself inside no matter what profession you're in until you change your way of looking at yourself and start accepting the way you are (doesn't mean you'll stop improving yourself, it'll just come from a place of self love instead of self loathing). I don't pretend to have all the answers but these are the little nuggets of wisdom I've realised in my short time on earth, and I hope it helps you.
I had the same problem but bnow I'm 33 people are insanely jealous of how young I look so it's definitely not a bad thing. I couldn't put weight on either until I realised that it was due to stress. Once I learnt how to relax the weight started coming. The main thing is educate yourself about how not to care about what other people think l, this will make you happy. If you want to join the military do it for you not to prove something to others. Think positive and do esteemful things. Focus on your passions and build meaningful relationships with genuine people and ditch fake friends.
@@ScottHermanFitness thanks for the reply Scott....Yup I will work my butt off. For now I am preparing for exams to join the military. I will see what happens in the near future

heyyy :D great video as always! can you make another one, on how to have more mobility in ankles and hips, because there are a lot of us who can not do a proper squat! :(
I wish it was this simple. I'm 33 and a female. There is alot of misinformation out there for females, especially when I was in my 20s. Also, I majored it AT, and would end up missing the majority of school meals I paid for because I had to stay after practices. Ramen? Yep lived off of it in college, like I said I missed the good meals the school provided. And I couldn't keep fresh food in my dorm or cookware.

i like where this all is going. how ever... too late, Scott. too late. damage done, and now i need to clean up.
It's never too late man!
I’ve got a hard time not looking back at 38.
You are absolutely right Scott.
When I had to start working, I didn't know what to do. So I started something that interested me. But it was not my passion. I worked in so much different jobs & buissenes to find it.
Now I'm 30 and finally found it.
So try everything in your younger Days to find your Career.
Do everything that interests you & also some things that you don't think are interesting at all.
It's really important to know what you don't wanna do.
Really good Topic Scott 👍🏻
Love your work
I'm 25. Been very conscious about my life. Problem is trying to plan it all and nothing working out and the world's decline (not the pandemic) making one feel that people will create a dismal society and culture for us.
Nice video man, really appreciate the life lesson 👌
22 and started taking my health seriously 6 months ago. Just posted my physique update video and am so happy I started. The first steps are the most important... just start! Thanks for the video 😎👌
The Boston is strong with this one
Good thing, I watched this while I'm still in the 20's. Thanks Scott!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve checked out your vids but this was definitely spot on! I’m in my mid 30’s now and I wish I did some of these things. Now it’s my goal to make sure my family members don’t make the same mistakes as I did.
80% of getting in shape is diet. I'm 43, 30 years plant based. I workout about 20 min a day 4-5 days as week and I'm in better shape than the average 20 year old. Hell I'm in better shape than 20 year old me.
I have to admit: i STILL need to work on ALL of these. But it's part of growing up.👍 Happy Belated Birthday, Scott.🙏
You've got time! and thanks Maurice!!
The fact that you can admit this speaks volumes 👌 you will be successful.
@@Joseph-fs4kh Thanks, Joseph. Much appreciated.👍
Yess sirrr, one of the best videos from you, reminding us of the importance of other things in life apart training and physique. This is gold content. Much appreciation
Great video man. Cheers. I got a wife and 3 kids and it's harder to be consistent with the gym and nutrition so yeah, looking back to my 20's makes me wanna kick myself down south for not taking advantage to the fullest of that period... I'm 32 btw and a Leo.
Scott with some truth bombs here. Definitely agree with all of your tips. As a 33 year old, life just full of responsibilities nowadays
Just wait until you are in your 60's, lol. Fortunately, I still get to the gym 3-4 times a week. The key is not to become complacent or lazy. Beer is not your friend.
When I grow up, I wanna be just like you XD
Cannabis is a good friend though? Please confirm 🤣
@@gerRule weed is only a bit less worse than beer for your long term health. Dont abuse it
@@ruschev2 I’ve cut down to smoking it only 4 times a week and I’m trying to get down to eating it twice a week and smoking it only once a week and then maybe stopping it by next year
@@gerRule why maybe stop?
Great tips Scott!! Keep it going man!!
Great advice, Scott. Agreed lot of people are lazy or have the mindset "if it ain't mine, who cares?"
I'm always amazed at the amount of people that are lazy or don't give a shit.
Couldn't agree more man! Whatever you do, do it as best you can! It's a mindset more people could absolutely do with!
@@ScottHermanFitness I would venture to guess we'd agree on quite a bit, haha.
It was just how I was raised: do your best job, always. And I think it's a great attitude.
Probably Scotts best video. Real role model shit. Hats off to you.
Amen. An inspiration.
~ High five from a Mom of 2 from hong kong & super amateur bodybuilder. My husband also loves dragon ball. We love and enjoy your content. They are all balanced and realistic. Thank you for all your videos.
I'm about to hit 30, and this is so true, I've always stayed in shape, and feel better now more than ever!
he's right - the other day, i had to troubleshoot a problem with my stereo - fixed it myself, learned a lot about the components - and it was a mood-lifter, having completed the task with a good outcome.
Found the remote?
Like you said, never too late. I didn't start working out until my late 40s. Now in my 50's, have a hard time gaining muscle. What you said about maintaining strikes a cord. Definitely easier to gain earlier in life and maintain that, then trying to gain later. In the end, I'm happy I'm healthy, as I used to have high blood pressure, but the training has fixed that (was over-weight) and I no longer have to take heart meds!
Educational vids here! 👍
@@zoomermcboomer4771 Thank you for your thoughtful comments, they are truly appreciated.
Wow thank God for great mothers or where else would this world be?
But if I needed help and they shout and shut me out I would be disappointed and sad for they do not love me for what I have done for thee
In best regards
- Nick
@@zoomermcboomer4771 Correct me if I am wrong!
Appreciate this video Scott. I love learning life lessons from older folks.
I'm 38 and I feel all the unintended damages I caused my life is beyond repair. Every thing I go for in life has failed, but I came REAL close to getting. I hope I can repair any damages I did to myself, because I don't want to be 40 and still have a dark future because I'm having a tough time finding work now because COVID put a lot of business here gone.
damn, this is one of the best video i've seen from Scott.
thanks for the advice Scott, i definitely need to improve that sleep schedule. Thanks for the reminder!
Well said bro
I started getting my health together in my late 20’s and I’m always listening to my body when it comes to working out and nutrition, also I’m always pushing myself to always get stronger
Thanks for this video. I'll make sure to rewatch it whenever I feel unfocused and need a bit of a reminder of what's important.
I'm soon going to turn 20, thanks for the heads up Scott!
do yourself a favor and skip the bar and drinking phase and you'll be ahead of 90% of the people your age.
Truth man, I think like this all the time and I’m only 22. You hit every point.
I’m 27 and married with kids. This video was fantastic and great motivation for me to keep going. Thank you brotha!
Happy to hear that!! Appreciate the support! Sounds like you are doing very well!$
Hey Scott currently I am 21 years old.
I'm sure you've looked through my videos and have found my meal plan ones! That will give you some idea of what you need to do and if you need more help you can always post in my forums as well.
Damn! I have been following you for almost 10 years!
Love these tips. Can you do a healthy Costco haul video?
The thing I like that’s different about you and others is that instead of just giving advice. You also use examples from your own life to provide authenticity. That’s what I like, I like getting advice, but seeing examples of how it worked out for the person giving it
Hit the nail with this one! Great tips man, especialy the life skills one!
Scott I feel you on all the advice man but you got to remember we didn't listen to this shit either when we were 20 :-)

At 37 I am happy with my lifestyle. Yet I agree that more education is always best. Keep focusing on learning, creating projects, and get sleep
Yes it is balance is very important ...I'm always being told slow down or calm down. Everyone comes to me to unclog the toilet! But I learned about taking care of the house from my dad 😂

Haha thanks man. We try to keep things fun here!
im 27.5 and im approaching 30 in a few years D: Hopefully I can reach my goal weight #1 in a few years assuming the covid and economy situation gets better
also i love your tanktop
My biggest issue is your last tip, I grew up without a father figure, so most of these skills I've had to learn by myself.. But I promise you, that my son will learn everything I never learned growing up
Thats great man! Sucks you grew up without a Dad, but sounds like your Mom did an amazing job teaching you to be independent!
heyyy :D great video as always! can you make another one, on how to have more mobility in ankles and hips, because there are a lot of us who can not do a proper squat! :(
Good advice Scott. Thanks.
For me is figuring what I want to do with my life career wise, I am 27 and I don’t even know if I will do my job forever. Thankfully I am single so no pressure on my end. What made you decide to purse a career in fitness Scott?
awesome advice and hope this video helps some of the young adults' who watch you.
