What I *really* want is a stronger Telephoto that can rival a DSLR as much as possible. If I could put a 10x telephoto on the main lens with proper optical glass, I'd be a very happy person. In spite of the fact that I loved and enjoyed macro, tele and ultrawide lenses in the past for my old Pixel 4 XL, I'm not seeing a great case made here for these lenses at these prices. No doubt the optics are awesome and moment's quality is high, but at this point, what I need is a telephoto alternative that can beat Google's 5x.
i think 10x would be overkill, probably not a lot of market for that as well and moment/mobile lenses are already niche enough. Altough I'd probably love a 10x as well lol. A 5x telephoto from Moment seems a lot more doable IMO, and it would probably be great!
I would also like an optical 10X with good definition, that would surpass google's digital 10X (5X optical plus 5X digital) but it seems to me that first we should fill the gap between the 1X and 5X physical lenses of google and apple, a 58mm seems to me quite poor, it should be a 3X lens at least...

@@ed-schramm this doesn't make much sense if we take into account that the pixel PRO and the iPhone PRO MAX already come equipped with their very good quality optical TELE 5X... 🤷♂ in any case would be feasible thinking in a public that acquired the more modest versions and then realized that they need an optical TELE, but if those people did not want to pay the difference from the 1st time to acquire the PRO versions what makes you think that they would do it in the future to purchase these lenses...
In theory shooting 4x on the main sensor will give a better tele image than the 5x buit-in on the tele sensor. I'm not seeing those comparisons in this video though.
I'd love demos of the Tele lens + portrait mode. LOVE that combo on the Pixel 3 and 6. Pixel only requires one lens for portrait mode, so Moment lenses don't disable the mode, and in my experience Tele + portrait actually improved the subject cutout over portrait mode without a lens
Well yeah, it's a pretty compact replacement for an slr, but the prise… Tho for a niche product like that, with a high quality glass it's acceptable I think
The 18mm wide, would have been good to compare to the equivalent focal length of the phone, I'm guessing it would have been around a .7 or a .8, just to see how well the phone's built in digital scaling is working. I love the anamorphic, that lens is everything and would be the lens to buy for me. Great work guys!
Def will try that in the future, but almost 100% sure the .7 built in would look quite muddy since it's just cropping in on the sensor of the ultrawide! Also yess we love the anamorphic as well!
Hello 2 questions. 1. To confirm. The 1.55 anamorphic wont work with rhe telephoto lens? 2. Do you know any app to desquezze video shot on pixel? Please help on that one!
I would have liked to see all the photos unedited, the super saturated colors look more like a Samsung than a pixel.... 🤷♂ on the other hand, if the lenses only work with the main sensor, the comparisons should have been the same photo (same pose) side by side, to be able to appreciate the differences, google macro vs moment macro on main sensor, TELE 2X google (cropped sensor) vs TELE 58mm moment on main sensor, that alone would be enough for us to decide a future purchase, in my case I am interested in the TELE moment 58mm to get a TELE 2X optical... but with this comparative with edited and badly compared photos it is not possible to make a decision... I suppose that before making the video they will have evaluated to which public it was going to be directed, and the great majority we are people who look for the best camera, some are professionals, and others advanced amateurs, but the great majority we understand photography, we are not mere users... then the video should have had a more professional tinge, not so directed to an amateur public.
Filmic Legacy (or Pro, if you want extra cloud processing for a subscription fee). I would recommend only performing desqueeze in preview, though, and do the actual processing in post on a desktop class machine. It takes quite a long time to render on a mobile CPU.
Why no comparison of 4x lens to pixel's built in 5x? I got the original m series tele to compensate for the old Pixels' lack of tele. I'm not sure moment's tele adds much to pixel pro's built in tele. Yes, it's nice to be able to shoot tele on the main sensor. If that's a big improvement I'd like to see conparisons. In this video the tele's bokeh looks bad, but it could just be video compression. You've got to look at stills to have much sense of IQ.
can you guys show the results of tele lens over iPhone's 5x tele lens. I hear that the results are not as crisp since the iPhone's tele is not the same sensor/aperture as the primary camera. But I would still love to see the results of tele on tele.
Thank you for this video. I have now ordered my Pixel 8 Pro. Can you confirm whether I need to buy a 'specific phone case for the lenses to go on?' I am looking for a lens to be an obvious upgrade -for my pixel 6 pro. I want the cinematic feel, with a movie-like depth of field. Is the anamorphic my best option or should I go with tele? Is this even possible on the phone without any artificial cinema modes? PS I wish it were easier to order, for Europe. Can't find them easily, in my country at least (GR)... Thanks
The built in lenses on the Pixel 8 Pro are better than the lens attachments when factoring in the cost. The lens itself is $150 not including the mandatory $40 case.
Nope. They wont. Its said in multiple places like reddit etc. Usually, most cases r sold only during first few months they said. They r only looking for s24 series i heard. Even if they release a sticky prototype like this one for s23u, that would b nice too.
No case but we do have the universal lens mount which will work on the pixel 8! www.shopmoment.com/products/universal-lens-mount-t-series/universal-mount-t-series
Waiting for my M-series trade-in credit to be applied to my Moment Wallet to jump on some lenses :D I will for sure go for the Macro , becaue that's what I mainly shoot for my PTSD therapy. I will most likely jump on the 58mm after, since it's a very nice middle ground between the 1 and 2x and the 5x :D 58mm and 10x macro (and the 10% cinebloom) has been my moment setup since the Pixel 4 XL, so I'l consider the 58mm after the macro lens
How does the telephoto lense do for distance shot clarity? as I know at times the pixel 8 pro lately has been being out classes for the first time in telephoto pics by the iPhone 15 pro in image detail.
We didn't have any 5x shots in this video but from looking, the 5x looks a bit muddy compared to the ip 15 pro but we got a pixel 8 pro vs. ip 15 pro video in the works and will do a direct comparison for you 😃
I really liked how the tele lens paired with my Pixel 6. But I noticed it seems to have issues focusing on the subject at times, and videos with the tele lens had a weird glowy look. I feel as though this distorted "stylized" look with the tele lens on the Pixel 8 is even more pronounced. The bokeh looks very messy, and the subject seems very soft and not entirely in focus. Is this due to the Dual Exposure feature of Pixel 8? I feel like the photo processor of the phone struggles to create an accurate image with the lens on.
Yes this could be due to the processor in the Pixel 8 Pro and also what you mentioned as the Dual Exposure. It definitely provides a character similar to vintage lenses and glad you like your tele and pixel 6 combo! Cheers!
As long as the Pixel continues to have issues fluttering between lenses at certain proximities to photo subjects, this seems a challenging tool to use.
Oh damn, I correct myself. After digging through the settings, the camera app FINALLY lets you (on the Pro only I assume) explicitly pick which lens you want to use! Fantastic ♥
