- Look back at this classic upset. Duane Thomas stopped John Mugabi for the junior middleweight title in 1986. Mugabi argued against using thumb tabbed gloves and it backfired on him in the end. #boxing #boxinghighlights #fight
Next up for Top Rank Boxing, Mexican warrior Oscar Valdez will face Australian former world title challenger Liam Wilson in a special 10-round junior lightweight attraction on Friday, March 29 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Valdez, making his seventh appearance in the Grand Canyon State, joins Wilson in seeking redemption in the arena that hosted their last defeats.
In the co-feature, WBC/WBA/Ring Magazine champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada and WBO/IBF ruler Yokasta Valle collide in a highly anticipated showdown for the undisputed minimumweight crown. The prolonged war of words between the two world champs will culminate in a milestone 12-round fight presented in association with Golden Boy Promotions and MarvNation Promotions.
Valdez-Wilson & Estrada-Valle headline a stacked card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

The Hagler fight ruined Mugabi. Hagler wasn't the same afterwards either.
Spot on, a brutal, gruelling encounter that turned into a war of wills. Leonard suddenly stepped up because he knew this fight took so much out of Hagler.
RIP Duane Thomas
A young Michael Buffer talking regular is the real highlight.
Mugabi was an absolute wrecking machine before he fought hagler
Rip Emmanuel steward
Great fight❤
Don't remember Michael Buffer doing interviews
First time I've seen him do interviews too. He was pretty good here!
Hagler took the Beast inside Mugabi and destroyed him.
Hagler broke Mugabi, ruined him.
Could somebody explain to me what a “Thumb tabbed glove” is?
Thumb is attached to decrease the chance of getting thumbed in the eye. Watch any fight where Larry Holmes defends his title and you will see how he would open the glove a little to stick his thumb in someone’s eye when he would throw the jab.
@@itsnotme3882thanks man. I had no idea there was so much difference in gloves
Wrong title for the video. How is this the most ironic boxing TKO? Your description is incorrect as well, because there was no thumb to the eye, the replay showed he was punched in the eye.
Team Mugabi was against thumb tabbed gloves and ultimately got their wish. Mugabi fought in gloves that didn't have the thumbs attached. In the end, he blames the loss on getting a thumb to the eye because of the style of gloves. So no, we are not wrong.
@@toprankI don't agree. Just because he blames it on a thumb doesn't mean that is what actually happened. And your own video proves this with several angles and replays showing he was punched in the eye, not thumbed. So yes, you are wrong.
Clickbait
That was a total fluke. Mugabi got thumbed.
They showed the replay a couple of times, it was a punch in the eye.
@@marcd1981 No it wasn’t.
De hecho el ojo de Mugabi quedo muy dañado por ese piquete meramente accidental. Thomas fue un campeón efímero, perdió su título ante Lupe Aquino.
@@jorgerueda1715you right, I remember that fight.✊🏿☀️🌟🛸🧬🔥💯
