Vietnamese Auntie Sells the BEST Cơm Tấm I’ve Ever Had!

- In this food travel vlog, I’m in District 1, Saigon, Vietnam, trying some authentic Vietnamese street food. The street food vendor is a friendly Vietnamese auntie who sells the best cơm tấm I’ve ever had!
Cơm Tấm literally translates to broken rice in English. This is a suitable name because the rice grains are “broken” and much smaller than full sized rice grains. This style of rice rose in popularity in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, where rice farmers who were struggling a bit financially would sell their full grain rice and use their broken rice to cook and eat at home.
This com tam street vendor uses a very authentic version of broken rice, with tiny broken rice grains which give the rice a delightful and unique texture. She has various toppings to put on the broken rice, and I chose sườn (bbq pork chop), trứng gà (chicken egg), and mỡ hành (pork fat with green onion). The dish was also topped with some pickled veggies and served with a delicious winter melon soup.
We arrived just as the auntie opened her street food stall, so we were able to eat pork chops fresh off the barbecue. The pork chops were excellently marinated and grilled to perfection. The egg was also cooked perfectly, with a crispy fried outside and a runny yolk.
I happily ate this cơm tấm and gave you my signature Dank Rank food review. I also practiced speaking Vietnamese with the lovely auntie, who was very friendly and patient with my efforts.
Overall, this was a really wonderful experience eating some authentic Vietnamese street food in District 1, HCMC. For any foodies traveling to or living in Vietnam, I highly recommend trying this auntie’s com tam. She is located on Cô Giang Street.
The food stall is located around:
31 Cô Giang, Phường Cầu Ông Lãnh, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

Closest thing to smell-o-vision! People started flocking to that grill. Looks delicious 😋
yeah they did start coming in droves as soon as they started grilling
I watched this during my lunch break so I was so hungry lol. Do you eat com tam often? You seem to like it. Have you tried any other dishes and liked them? Keep working on your Vietnamese and I'm sure you will get better. You can also practice with your girlfriend when you talk to her. Anyways, good video.
Also, you will receive a lot of different comments on your channel since there are more people watching now. Do not pay much attention to negative ones; just focus on yourself and do what makes you feel comfortable. Cheers.
I do eat com tam often I like it very much. I've tried lots of different dishes and liked them. I've got lots of videos on here about different dishes I've tried. I especially like banh canh cua, mi quang, and bo kho. Thanks I'm working on learning Vietnamese every day! Hopefully I get better. Good advice! Occasionally there are negative comments but as you suggested I just ignore them.
Luv it when u2 together ! 🥰
cheers!
Your Vietnamese language getting better ❤❤🎉😮

We’ll definitely be going to try this place out! Looks delicious 🤤

@@BigTimeBentley I won’t get a chance to go until we come back from Seattle next January but I’ll definitely let you know
@@TheNamDude sounds good!
Hi Bentley, "mỡ hành" is actually only scallion cooked in oil. The crunchy pork fat that you love so much is actually called "tóp mỡ". Cheers, love your videos!
Interesting thank you!
This cơm tấm spot is so good one of the best cơm tấm in saigon
yeah definitely!
6:13: Em không nên rưới nước mắm kiểu vậy vì phần đáy chén thường không sạch, rưới kiểu vậy nước mắm sẽ chảy xuống phần đáy chén. Nên dùng muỗng rưới sẽ sạch hơn
good point
You guys so cute together. 😊 one of my favorite com tam in Saigon…
Excellent rice there. and thank you!
Hahah your lovely is spot on when she says it only tastes good if it's off somebody else's plate ! Makes me laugh when you say something is on the expensive side at 60k which is around AU$3.66 its costs me more than that here for a double shot Espresso at my regular cafe !
Haha the food is always greener on the other side
Yeah, but I am sure you earn more Aussie dollars than Tyler! It's all relative.
Your channel is gonna take off. And deservedly so. Pleased for you.

I'm with all the others on the hair...the girlfriend's choice on the cut was bad. Time to get that fixed. 😂 At least the food looked great!
It’s called the coconut 🥥 style haircut in Viet Nam. Bentley has been living in VN for 6 years so he’s used to the style
I chose the cut 😅
@@BigTimeBentley Wasn't this the same haircut from when you last went and your girlfriend chose the cut? Have you had a haircut since? Yeah, both have been bad, but if this was your choice...it's terrible. LOL
You said that's the best Com Tâm you have ever had but why you didn't empty your plate ?
I usually always finish it with some broth
I was full
