I got one of these a month ago. Within a week I got it sounding good enough to play at the end of a meditation class each Friday. Everone is hooked on it, and getting one. Love your videos.
Thank you! Actually I run a store and sells them. Price ranges from 80EUR to 160EUR depending on material and more (synthetic or real skin). There are also cheaper models without the drum part, but they don't sound as this one. They are made by Peter Hokema in Germany. Best wishes from Sweden
my sansula got delivered today. its so amazing i'v been playing it all day. thank you so much for posting these video's, without which i wouldnt even know about this beautiful little instrument (:
Mmmmmmm...... Played mine whilst watching/listening.Two sansulas interweaving. Thanks for the duet! And don´t call the playing sloppy! An artist is his own worst critic you know :)
Thank you! You inspire me to want to make new recordings, now many years later. When I became a father I looked forward to playing relaxing lullabies. It worked for some time, even if I often got sleepier than the audience. But then no matter how slow and calm I played, my son reacted by getting up to dance. Flattering in some way, but not very practical!
shocked! you look amazingly like me!! (not much in this photo though) sunsula...holy grail of instruments in my point of view. For the first time now, got the chance to find something (well, more than something) on the internet/utube abt it... as a person without any playing talent, i can at least myself enjoy playing that! and will soon buy one :) counting the moments to have again a journey into myself through this medium. thanks for sharing
@nemetonsanctuary I take that as a compliment, thanks! This is the nice factory default A-minor tuning from the manufacturer Hokema, so Mark can just send one your way.
To play faster is no problem. Also, now this video feels really old, it was just after I stocked this instrument. I plan to make more proper music and of course it can be spinfriendly specially for you! Kram på dig vagabondvännen!
Thank you Staffan. You play beautifully. I am still feeling my way around but am enjoying the Sansula's many possibilities. Around and about question - what mic and recording setup are you using to capture the music you create? Thanks again! Ronen
A play as in theatre I assume? No, I don't mind, I am just happy to hear you enjoyed this old recording! Thank you for letting me know. Best wishes from Sweden
Staffan din lilla nattuggla :) This is beautiful my friend, a question, how fast can you play on your Sansula, would it be possible for you to keep the rhythm up to a person that spin poi if it´s not to fast? :P Keep upp the magical tones. Du är söt fast du sitter där som trötter och gör fingervals på din Sansula om natten :D
Beautiful. I am going to buy a Sansula. I tried a Sansula Hokema Reinassance in a Moll. Do you think it could be a good choice to Start? Thank you! Sergio
Hello Sergio MannaIn my opinion the deluxe version with goat skin has a richer tone and allows stronger sound volume, in particular for the bass notes. However, yes, the Renaissance version with thick synthetic skin is fine too and it should be even more durable.I have had people being unable to tell them apart when listening. If you liked it when you tried it I am sure you will be happy with it.The difference i perceive is likely due to both the stiffer skin and the slightly smaller volume of the resonator cavity (the skin sits lower in the wooden frame).Best wishes!Staffan
Sjukt mysigt spelat!
Hi Staffan sorry but i have to ask you what is the tuning of your Sansula? i love the bending/resonance ,cool improvisation, hope you still going ahah all the best
Arnica Coast it is the goat skin version "Sansula Deluxe" in the default A minor tuning. In my opinion clearly the richest sound, but some people say there's not much difference between the models. The scale is a bit limiting but also gives a great freedom of easy improvisation. I really like how the friendly tuning and layout makes it wonderfully easy to play. I am glad you enjoyed it!
Those things are fucking Audio CRACK! I thought my Hugh Tracy Kalimba was the shit. My dad got one of those and just fucked my whole style up. He did the "Wah Wah" sound and I shat a shorthaired cat when I heard it. Like seriously, a short haired tabby fell out my ass the sound was so dope. I gotta get one
The small kalimba is the Hokema B9, a kalimba with nine tines similar to the sansulas but without the resonator drum. Lacking a resonator box or drum it can instead be held on your drum, table, dog, window or anything else you would like to experiment with to see how it resonates with this kalimba.
Hi Staffan, i've just sent you an email regarding this song. I hope you can see it. I sent it to the email that appears in the website you have on your about information here :)
Hello I can arrange for a sansula to try out in my store selling fire juggling equipment, or we can get together somewhere so you can try different models. See a message sent to you...

Hej Sötnos!

Kram på dig vagabondvännen!
Hi There,
What mike did you use to record this? The music is beautiful too!
I'm interested in getting a price on your Sansula
Kalimba. Also is this the paper, remo or goat skin head on the one for sale?
Thank you Staffan. You play beautifully. I am still feeling my way around but am enjoying the Sansula's many possibilities. Around and about question - what mic and recording setup are you using to capture the music you create? Thanks again! Ronen
Well, cheap or not depends on how much one is willing to spend, doesn't it?
They are about 150-270 USD depending on model.
Thank you so much, your music is so beautiful that I used in a short play.. hope you don't mind
A play as in theatre I assume?
No, I don't mind, I am just happy to hear you enjoyed this old recording! Thank you for letting me know.
Best wishes from Sweden
Thank you and greetings from Ecuador

no doubt, Steff performed it 4 me

Thank you Staffan. Meanwhile I bought it, I mean the Reinassence one. I love playing it and made already a couple of improvisation.
were you looking at me?
Sjukt mysigt spelat!
Where would you recommend getting a decent quality sansula? Peace
Hi Staffan . Great music. Could I use this music for a short video promo for a play I am doing?
I am happy you like it. You are welcome to use it. I'd be curious to see the result.
Hi Staffan sorry but i have to ask you what is the tuning of your Sansula?
i love the bending/resonance ,cool improvisation, hope you still going ahah all the best
@roullettechick
Yes
And at increasing numbers of other people, so I stopped before ending up totally cross-eyed
I like it very much! Which Sansula is it? Would like to play it!
Arnica Coast it is the goat skin version "Sansula Deluxe" in the default A minor tuning. In my opinion clearly the richest sound, but some people say there's not much difference between the models.

@PalmWorksSweden
:)
Sure, it may be sloppy but it's a dreamland type theme if it were full of rhythmes it wouldnt be good.
I gotta get one
what's the little one you have sitting on the side of you?

Which of the Hokemas do you think has the best sound quality? I think maybe this one. I have a Hugh Tracey but it's a different sound.
Hi Staffan, i've just sent you an email regarding this song. I hope you can see it. I sent it to the email that appears in the website you have on your about information here :)
