What I learned in this episode:
1) Joey gets triggered over okonomiyaki.
2) Garnt doesn't like sauces.
3) Connor gets triggered over hamburgers.
4) They all love tsukemen.
and that joey did heroin
I mean, there's no actual point to not just kill them quickly right before you cook them rather than torture it to death while cooking it. it doesn't make it better.
@@mbnmac1 yeah i agree with garnt, like seeing a living being getting tortured to death in front of me do makes me lose my appetite
I think Garnt got put off because he felt the animal got snuffed inhumanely. I get that too. I love meat, but not with the knowledge that the animal was in pain before it got ended
I get "triggered" by the word "triggered". It's a derogatory word that's used as a way of dismissing everything. Like nobody should ever have a strong view, care or be concerned about anything, otherwise you're "triggered".

Should’ve just put “Food Wars” when they started talking about food. Fitting with the ending of Food Wars Anime finishing.
Kuro Haizaki Yeah but I don’t really want to confuse anyone with them talking about the actual anime
I don't understand how Connor is such a sophisticated man of culture and a neanderthal brute at the same time.
Honestly that's just the most accurate description of Connor
Best description EVER!!!

You know Connor's always talking out of his ass. He mentioned this in the last(?) podcast.
More than a year has passed and this episode feels so iconic now. The wine meme, Connor's shirt, the original set, the food rant, etc. I wanna see how the show keeps evolving.
I love how these food discussions are a 100 times more intense than the anime ones
Connor is completely right.
Food is very important discussion. Wars have been started and will be started over it man. Take these heated discussions of three great friends and make it with countries with weapons, see what happens.
It’s ironic that a show that’s ostensibly about tastes in anime has it’s most intense discussion about tastes in food😂

I just wanted to express how refreshing and entertaining this podcast is. When I need a break from life this podcast takes me away. There's something about the synergy of conversations with an injection of true expression between friends that makes me step back and feel that good-hearted social interaction I lack. Its so nice to hear more "light-hearted" (not saying they don't talk seriously about certain topics) discussions that really let me unwind from my own life. Not to look obsessively dependent on these videos, but these guys give that positive push when I get hopeless and depressed with my inadequate self. Im and older teen and I feel bleak af with no aim and at times I cannot find the emotions to do anything. This podcast has given me so much in terms of unwinding down support. This might sound pathetic, but watching this podcast lets me find enjoyment and with that gift of enjoyment I keep living. Their podcast is not the only thing that helps me, but they do contribute a good portion. This podcast is a little refreshment with attitude that really hits different. I hope everybody will find more little things they can think deeply or feel deeply about to make a more balanced life. Thank you for your time if you've read through my jumbled mess of a comment and I hope your day goes well.

Connor was right about phones being able to turn themselves on for an alarm. I had accidentally set an alarm for 8pm instead of 8am. I was seeing Grease at the theatre and even though I turned my phone off, it turned itself on because of the alarm. But thankfully I was able to turn it off before it got too loud and no one noticed.
hello late reply here, android has this feature for so long which is great!
even older phones like nokia has this one also and would even ask you after if you want the device to turn on/off after stopping/snoozing the alarm.

2- *It hits back.*

I don't think the hambargu are being done justice, it's similar to a Salisbury steak, it's not just a hamburger patty, it has onions and garlic and sometimes carrots minced and mixed in to make the meat taste slightly caramelised and sweeter as well as releasing natural umami from the meat.
Edit: The sweet french inspired Demi glace sauce also is the key to a great hambargu
*hamburg/hambagu
@@plipplop1769 If you're going to be pedantic about romaji and loan words it's Hambāgu because the a is elongated and had an r sound, hence why I spelt it as hambargu with an r instead of using an a with a macron.
@@gadgetshowboy Sorry wouldn't it be hambaagu then? I've never heard it being said with an r sound before.
I think it's the name that is causing problem here, cause when you say hamburg you think burger not a steak like dish, maybe Connor would be more okay with it if it had a different name

Arigathanks bro, here's a medal for ur troubles 🎖🎖
👑 king, you dropped this
Garnt isn’t opposed to killing things to eat them, he’s opposed to making the animal suffer unnecessarily when there are less cruel options like an instant kill
I don’t exactly know if this is 100% true but I know that lobsters and other crayfish can’t feel pain from stuff like burning and other similar stuff. So it’s just kind of a quick death
@@Evocable0 well clearly the squirming indicates something else
someone ya well yeah it’s gonna squirm, they still feel a little bit of pain but the amount they feel is pretty much equal to getting a splinter, it’s no reason not to eat it
Evocable I believe that that was proven to actually not be true, I could be wrong though. But i think that they found that cutting from the back of the head down to be the less cruel way of killing those kinds of creatures because it disconnects the brain instantly.

"You couldn't tell fast food burgers apart blindfolded."
Joey I can't believe you've done this. Unacceptable.
All fastfood burgers taste different, that's was a bad take Joey
@@carktheshark guess you can say that was a *Trash* *Taste*
As someone who has actually been through survival courses and has had to pet rabbits (to calm them down) before legitimately clubbing them to death, I 100% understand where Garnt's distaste is coming from on the whole Abalone cooked alive situation. It's about the suffering, it's legit burning to death and trying to escape in front of you. Who the hell wants to see a creature's last death struggle while they're trying to have dinner?
Plus, doesn’t meat taste worse when the animal dies afraid/panicking? Grain of salt and all that, but I’ve heard that adrenaline makes meat tougher.
I was about to comment on that. Thanks. Yeah, we don't need to make the animal suffer. I'm with Garnt on that as well.
Yeah exactly, I like to eat meat but that doesn’t mean I want to see the animal being slowly burnt alive before I eat it
@@KlutzyNinjaKitty Okay, as a food science major, I'm gonna have to correct that real quick. It's not adrenaline. It's the lactic acid in the muscle. Lactic acid is that thing that makes you feel sore after a gym session. It makes meat tougher, less juicy, and taste quite a bit worse. Stress and struggle is the primary cause of this shit. And that's why you have to make sure the animal is calm when you kill them. And the murder needs to be done quick.
I butcher chicken for a living. I don't cook shit alive. That's just cruel. If it needs to go into fire, it should be dead already.
Garnt: hates condiments
Garnt: also hates dry burger patties...
Garnt: I can't fix this and idk why
Burgers dont need condiments if there's enough fat and is cooked properly

@@blankslate7491 Nah, I got a buddy of mine that has invested a straight up day to just try and make his take on secrete sauce the best, fucker went through like a whole bottle of every condiemnt just to realize that he couldn't really choose a favorite
@@aeroditesonicgaming279 that man is a legend
So I recently looked this up.
Eggs in the US are cleaned with bleach. This makes each egg look more uniform and clean. However, bleaching eggs thins the shell and makes it easier to contaminate. That's why American eggs need refrigerated.
In the UK, Europe and Asia, chicken eggs aren't cleaned the same say. The shell is thicker and can be left out at room temperature. Chickens are also immunised against laying eggs with salmonella. Immunisation doesn't happen in the US.
All of these practices are set by food health and safety laws.
I found this super interesting because by law, UK eggs can't be sold in America and American eggs can't be sold anywhere else.
Doesn't much here, it's more convenient to put egg in the fridge than placing it around
The thing is that we CAN store the Eggs outside a Refrigerater BUT 7 Days before they expire they NEED to be in a Refigerater Because you have a high Risk to get salmonella... Thats why we need to get them thrown away when they Reach the 7th Day before they expire or everything else can get salmonella..
OH SO THATS WHY MY PARENTS ARE FINE WITH LEAVING THE EGGS ON THE TABLE CUZ THEY USED TO BE LEFT IN THE FRIDGE LOL THX
sorry for the caps lol but thx for the info-

Also, as a german: there are things that you can not do with chicken or beef. Welcome to trash taste
when they are talking about disgusting food they like/delicious food they dislike, trash taste gets a whole new meaning and i think thats beautiful
it's the synergy
The Hawaiian dish you were looking for is called spam musubi. :) It's basically a spam nigiri. You can get it everywhere in the islands! And one of the regional McDonald's breakfasts is spam, eggs & rice. There's also a spam themed festival. Basically, Hawaii has a love affair with spam and has adopted it as a local food - though technically most foods people think of as Hawaiian are actually from other places. Macadamia nuts are Australian, pineapples are South American, etc. Since Hawaii is pretty far out into the ocean, there aren't a lot of truly native plants. Most plants got transported in from elsewhere.
This episode was literally about Trash Taste.

I agree with Garnt. Condiments for the most part suck. Imagine having a pancake and just destroying it with syrup, and that's what ketchup and mustard are like. It just overpowers everything you put it on (although, powder mustard/only a tiny bit of either is totally fine.)

I've noticed from when you guys and Chris talking about prices of eating out in Japan, it's way more affordable than in the US for instance, eating out here is like 2x the cost of cooking at home, even cooking stuff that's pretty good quality.
Like a pack of 4x 10oz steaks at the grocery store is $25-$45 depending on the cut of meat, a giant bag of broccoli is like $2/pound and a giant sack of potatoes is like $1-2/pound and at a restaurant a steak dinner with the sides is going to be $20-40 for one person and then you have to tip 15-20% of the bill on top.
Even eating out at a fast food restaurant for a meal here is going to cost you like $7-12/person depending on where you go and how much you eat and for the most part they're not that great. For a midtier restaurant meal it's going to be $15-20/person, that's SO expensive when you can cook a great meal for your whole family for $20.
I have to agree with Garnt on the lobster part: making sure the animal doesn't suffer before dying is not a vegan idea.
Yeah it was different thing between eating something that get killed before and eating somethhing that you cook alive. Sadly garnet don't bring comparison like "did you will eat chicken that you Burner alive in front of you or the one that you killed before and then cook it"
Yeah like I want to eat the lobster but I don't need to see it squirm to it's death, that'll just not make me want to eat it, just give the thing a swift death and cook it damnit lol I'll just feel horrible
Yeah for sure
Yeah, I just freeze my lobsters before cooking. Death by cold is a way nicer death than boiling. I don't care if the noise is from steam escaping from the shell. I don't want my food to be tortured.

I have to say, this is the most I have agreed with Conner. Food is all about the synergy.
Yes! The quality of meat in a McDonalds cheeseburger doesn’t matter because the rest of the items in said cheeseburger takes the focus away from the meat. The whole item is still enjoyable. It’s also why you slather low-quality cuts in something tastier like in a beef tips & gravy style dish.
If I’m just having a slab of steak the focus is on the meat. So if that meat is shit quality (or if it’s cooked improperly) then it’s just shit. Though, I do have to agree with Joey. Steak is mid.

I'm absolutely on Garnt's side about the killing thing. Cows are usually killed by a single, swift impact that flips them from "alive" to "dead" before they can register the damage. You don't boil the cow alive. Garnt mentioned the lobster being killed with a swift knife to the spine... Versus being set, alive, on the grill, to burn.
There's ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY a difference between a single swift strike that kills you and getting stabbed to death over the course of an hour or slowly cooked alive over extended time.
Also the "Lobsters cant feel pain" argument is not proven or disproven. We dont know since their nervous system isnt like ours so i would say we should give them the benefit of the doubt and so do countrys like Switzerland which banned boiling or grilling lobsters alive. If i wanna eat seafood i dont need to watch it die slowly in frot of me. They can show me the alive lobster and afterwards kill it fast.

I m with Garnt on the burning the animals alive thing. I would have no problem with killing the animal i ll eat (i remember my grandma killing chickens for dinner when i was little and had no problem with it).
