Globalization and internet access has denied this tactic as seen by current events. Times have changed and there are more modern civilizations in the world to trade with.
I think the only sanction worth considering is being blacklisted in the US controlled SWIFT system. And then puppet lapdog countries will obey to not trade with Iran. There is a BRICS alternative to swift, and there r plenty of trading partners other than the western war mongers
