Window Tinting: To Shrink or Not To Shrink Your Tint
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- To shrink or not to shrink your window tint. I heat shrink window tint when I do my installs to insure the piece has tension. You have to heat shrink back window tint to make it form to the glass and also when doing full windshield tinting. Hopefully this window tint shrinking tip will help you get your install done with no issues of fingers and pulling in trash from the seals. Some installers feel the need to shrink and some don't. It's a personal preference and we all have our own style of installing to get the end result of a nice tint job.

Awesome! Thank you!
It's been a long road. I hope I'm able to get help people out in my own crazy way. Ha ha. More videos to come!
Did you just precut and shrink 2 at a time? Legend!!
If you check out my videos you'll see I double cut then double shrink all my side windows.
Thanks for watching.
Mad skills bro!!! Top notch skills 💯
Much appreciated, I'm still learning everyday. Thanks for watching.
I never thought of shrinking while its on the peel board! il give it a try on my next one.
Oh yeah if you hand cut you do most of the work on the Peel Board or just not work on the car as even for plotter cutting. Just get it ready on the glass, prep car and install. Saves me so much time. Thanks for watching.
Loving the energy 💪🏼 keep it up boss
Much appreciated, thanks for checking it out!
You pros make it look so easy :)
We try 🤷🏾♂️
Those sliverados are gravy. I love tinting those.
Right, isn't it almost to easy? Thanks for watching. I have another video with one coming soon. Stay tuned.
Firs time viewer, you got a sick company name. 🤘🏽
Thank you I appreciate it. I hope you check out more videos and Subscribe.
I personally don’t shrink F Series or Silverado along with few others. But I know that the Ram doesn’t usually like the tint without shrinking.
On the Fords I turn my film so the grain goes from left to right. I shrink the sides since I will get fingers on the bottom if I don't.
In my process of shrinking on the peel board it only takes a quick blast of heat to save some time. Thanks for watching.
Did you just cut both sides at once?! Brilliant!
Yes sir, it saves a lot of time. Thanks for watching hope you subscribe.
Why are you shrinking on the peel board? The board is flat and the window is curved, so wouldn't shrinking it on a flat surface not give the film enough of a curve to fit on the window without any fingers when you go to install it?
It saves steps and cuts back on time.
I can do a set of fronts around 30 minutes if all goes well. Saves running back and forth. I also double cut my film. Cut the top edge on the car and do the rest on the peel board and install. My heat gun is ready waiting to go.
@@FadeToBlackLLC Oh I see, so you shrink it more on the window after shrinking it on the board? That's very interesting, I've never tried that!
@@hypnotoad4087 no I don't don't go back to the vehicle, only to install.
I shrink it fully on the board both pieces.
Check out some of my newer videos, I show the steps I take.
I'm still not understanding this either. What exactly is it "shrinking" to if it's heated on a dead flat piece of glass?? What am I missing here??
...that is the question my friend !
Hey man, enjoying the videos even though I never plan to do tinting myself. I have a question for you. I bought a Lexus recently with what was described as a very high quality ceramic tint and it looks awesome. Was wondering if you had any tips for maintaining it, cleaners to use or avoid, etc? Best! and keep it up.
They say don't use ammonia when cleaning. You don't need any crazy cleaners. Watch out because most glass cleaners have ammonia. Just some soap and water spray with a Microfiber towel. Definitely try to be careful not to scratch it. One of the most reasons why I replace tint. It's hard to match tint when someone brings a random car because it I don't know what's on the.
Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
2:25 the cleanest cut ever
Much appreciated! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. Thanks for watching.
Hi, thanks for your videos helps a lot. What type of peel board you used? Thanks in advance.
That was just some glass mounted to a wall with the back painted white. Nothing fancy’s at all. Thanks
Why do you think the film on the glass board instead of the window shape? 🤔
Shrink. I have another video on this but it saves time and keeps you off the vehicle. Saves times and steps back and forth also saves time when shrinking two pieces at once.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I didn’t see I put think 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 instead of shrink.
Ha ha! @@mayrondelacruzperez5893
I like your videos
Thank you for sharing !
No thank you for watching. I have a good video coming up I just filmed... Maybe I'll put it up before next Friday???
Is shrinking needed it you pull panels? I only tint my own cars so I don’t mind the extra time it takes to remove them.
You can get away without shrinking SOME vehicles when pulling panels. Some cars have really curved windows and will need to be Shrunk either way.
Trucks you can be all good for the most part.
I shrink just to be safe.
Yo... So you can shrink with a double cut? Meaning the tint side are facing together and you can still shrink it that way? I would of thought the liner side would need to be facing you for both patterns to shrink leaving you to shrink each separately
Yes I Double Shrink and Double circle most of my roll ups. Most of my videos show me layering two pieces of film.. Saves a ton of time.
Do you still use the smart card for shrinking? I used the exact one yesterday and it scratched the hell out of the tint. I couldn't even use the tint anymore so it went in the trash pile.
Always, I use the card on the side with the LINER not the film.
Hey man have you tried to double cut the film and shrink them together but putting on the oposite way release liner with release liner?
If you go Release liner to Release liner then shrink you'll be carding on the film that goes inside the vehicle and possibly leaving scratches on it.
Shrink on the liner because it gets thrown away.
Dumb question but as you are shrinking the window tint at 4:10 why are you only doing the bottom? Wouldn't you get fingers at the top as well? Or only at the bottom? Sorry that may seem like a sily question but I am curious on how that works?
You shrink the middle bottom when using the Peelboard to shrink. If you think about it, when shrinking on the car glass the largest fingers are usually in the middle when shrinking.
@@FadeToBlackLLC Thank you for the explanation So when you apply tint to the actual window do fingers not appear at the top of the window like they would at the bottom or is that not a thing with fingers at the top of the window?
@@NewShockerGuy if you watch the video you'll see we usually flatten the top and push all the slack to the bottom and shrink.
It's all about working the film in your favor. Just tricks of the trade that's learned over time.
Can you do a video on your Moblie peel board !?
Yeah definitely, give me some time and I'll get it done.
You'll be surprised how simple my setup is lol
Thanks for watching.
Lately I haven’t been shrinking side windows
Hey do what's best for you 👍🏾
Hey man! I just had my car tinted 2 days ago and some of the air/water bubbles fading away. But I’ve notice on my driver side window there is a tiny bubble that is looks like a scratch or they call it crease or wrinkle... are those bubbles will fade away or should I go back to the shop to fix it? It’s really annoyed me.
Well if it's a crease that won't go away. If something is really bothering you I'd suggest just go back and KINDLY just tell them you aren't happy with that issue. Most shops should understand and take care of it. Give them a chance to help you out.
I hope that helps, that's what I try to do. We all make mistake or just don't notice things but it's how you treat people. Let me know how it works out.
About to reach 1000🤑mbn to be in the monetization club !
Lola yeah we'll see how that goes.
If the glass bends on one axis, don't shrink.
If the glass bends on two axis, shrink.
Good to know, thanks for the tips.
To the point ,well done . Got yourself a new subscriber here , checking out some more vids of yours now :)
I appreciate it, right now customers have got me really busy but I'll have more content when I can. Thanks for watching.
Looking to start tinting windows but I always wondered what the point of adding heat to shrink it does for the tint. So if I don’t shrink it and once I peel off liner, possibility of fingers appearing while applying it on the inside will happen?
Yes you'll have fingers pop up and they can cause a lot of problems. It's best to get the film done outside before moving inside.
Subscribe, I'll have more tips coming over the winter.
Fade To Black LLC fasho. I stayed up late watching all your vids lol. Reverse roll looks pretty tricky still. And yeah I’m gonna subscribe once I get home from work
@@Hbryry much appreciated... I have a ton more ideas I'd like to share... I think they will help you. Once you get a good methods down man you'll be Taking Candy from a Baby ha ha. It just takes time and repetion.
Fade To Black LLC yup practice and repetition is key. I’ve done a few vinyl wraps and tinted taillights so I figured might as well try doing windows
👍
👊🏾
can i tint a pre cut tint with out a heat gun should i just get a heat gun doing all windows on sedan
I shrink most of the glass when I install on a sedan. I show that in most of my videos. It always helps to put some tension on the film to prevent fingers. Heat gun is needed for sure on the back glass so It's going to be needed.
If your just doing your own vehicle can you use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun??I'm a rookie
A heat gun is used on its highest setting which is like 1200*
I'd just go get a heat gun, I got my Bauer from Harbor Freight less than $50 and it's been working awesome. There is a video here on my channel.
What products do you use ?
Mostly Flexfilm and Tint Club films.
Does all window tint shrink with heat ? I’m trying to do a Chevy Cruze rear window and don’t know if my tiny will shrink or not
Most if not all Auto Tint will shrink. It's designed that way.
Ok thank you for the reply gonna try it one more time tommrow the side ones are no problem , but I tried doing the inside from the inside without shrinking and got a bunch of fingers in the bottom I couldn’t get rid of so tommrow I’m trying your shrink method , hopefully I get it don’t really have the 125 bucks people charge to do the rear ! Thanks for the help
This is on a 2012 Chevy Cruze just purchased it’s black with chrome rims I wanna black out the windows
@@paulcherry1520 Just look at some of y Backglass Playlist videos. It's all about the Heat when shrinking the film. Even heat over the film will shrink it down.
🔥🔥🔥
👊👊👊
I bought pre cut tints for my Audi A3 saloon. I don't have a garage so I was going to try installing without shrinking. is it worth a try or will it definitely not fit on flat? Rear window and rear passenger windows
I think with a car it will be VERY tough to install without shrinking. Check out my how to Shrink video...you might be able to shrink the sides indoors and take them to the car and install.
@@FadeToBlackLLC okay I could try that but it won't work for the rear window?
@@FadeToBlackLLC also what if I wet the inside window place the tint in and shrink it in there would that not work?
@@Eatprepd your right the back one needs to be shrunk indoors
@@FadeToBlackLLC can you shrink inside the car after actually fitting the tint to the window?
Should I shrink lexan pre cut shrink for a GTI Volkswagen?
Most films will need to be shrunk in order to lay flat with no fingers. Check out some of my other tint videos and Subscribe. I'll be have more tint videos soon.
kelamaan manasinya om
should make a rap song of this lol
It would probably be very bad 😄.
