I vaguely recall a video from a few years back, using trays of (glued on) solo cups to store baubles. You can use an offcut from a plank of wood (or a coat hanger, in a pinch) to wrap lights around.
I have two large clear ornament bins. Every year, I treat myself to one (or two) special ornaments from a trip, a craft shop or just wherever I see one that makes me smile. Not necessarily expensive. Breakable ornaments are carefully wrapped up, non breakables are placed together in pretty boxes. All fit into the two bins and put away after Christmas. When I take them out the following year, it’s like opening presents, when I unwrap them! Not a chore, just a lot of awww’s, so sweet, cool, funny, etc coming out of my mouth. I just keep all the wrappings in the same bins for the later putting away. Love Christmas. My home decorations are mostly nature, outdoor winter wonderland themed, so can keep them up, over our whole cold Canadian winter.
I'm a butterfly. But when it comes to certain items, I'm a bee. I wrap my ornaments well but then chuck everything into a tote. I'll find ornaments in different totes. This Lady is one of those people who pulls trash from the road and turns it into something magical. I have seen lots of this stuff at the dollar tree and it looked like trash to me. Now I am sitting in amazement of how pretty she made all of it. 🙌🏻
I always put everything away in an extremely organized way, BUT when I pull everything out the next year I make an absolutely huge mess while decorating. I have 48 years of beautiful things to display in vignettes all over the house. Christmas decorating is so much fun. I love to see my grandchildren respond to Christmas at Nana’s!

OCD cricket here 👋 I change my house decorations 5-6 times per year and it usually only takes me 1-2 hours max for the entire house. The trick is pretty simple: when storing decor I always use big see through bins with lids and I label them by rooms rather than the occasion. And then inside the big bins i would use smaller (also labeled) boxes that each contains decor for different occasion. That means I already have my decor prepped for each room and all i have to do is to take each box to it's corresponding room and to set it up. It's fast, easy and it's completely clutter free.😊
@@deborahjames3113 That sigh.. 😅will you hate me if I tell you decluttering is one of my favorite chores of all? (right after folding clothes). I am a cricket and yes, I wrap my ornaments neatly. Can't bear to only think to toss everything in a bin. 😂😂😂 Takes a lot of time, but there's not a lot of damage or mess. Luckily we are all different. 😁 Loved the video. ❤️ Greetings from the Netherlands! Oh and the red tree. 😊
“I also have a bucket of twigs!” Was my favorite line and I had to watch a few times because it kept making me chuckle - but totally planning to do that one! 🤭 love these ideas!!!!
Bucket of twigs with real greenery is $50-$80 at the grocery store! I think I can make one of my own much cheaper! Can decide if I will use real greenery off my tree....
I can't decide between the trees. They're both so pretty, just in different ways. One tip to make sad garlands and wreaths look better is to take a little time to fluff out and shape each branch. If they're flattened and misshapen it will make a world of difference.
My living room as a beautify glam tree. Our bedroom has all the sweet heirloom, kid made, homemade ornaments on a small tree.. one that has the crochet tree skirt that my grandma made. We get the best of both worlds this way. ❤
I’m a rustic tree kinda gal who loves the winter aesthetic. Also a bee 🐝 who loves to decorate slowly, pulling out each storage tub. Each tub of course is organized by type of decor and room it is meant for 😎 On occasion I will bring up quite a bit from the basement but always make sure to clean up afterwards (I lose my mind if it all the totes stay out too long).
I am a hot mess sandwich, too. I TRY to keep it neat but it never happens. In fact right now, the dining room floor and table are covered in Christmas decor, lol! Tomorrows to-do job is finish putting up stuff and clean up!!
I’m a cricket and I make sure to declutter any unwanted decorations before packing them up and I put them up in an organized way. This makes it much easier to decorate the next year. I also loved all of these hacks ❤
I'm a cricket with ADHD. I have to wait for the optimal time to put away the Christmas decorations so it can be organized for next year. If it's a hot mess when I open up the bin I find it extremely difficult to even start decorating. I would have to organize the things before I set out anything. Having less Christmas decorations has also helped. I've only kept the things that I truly love and I use a lot of lights. Lights have a big impact on their own without cluttering up the place. I put lights on already existing plants and shelving.
Oh my goodness! You have made dollar store stuff look sooooo high end! You did a beautiful job! Thank you for all the great ideas! I'm a bee.... all the ornaments go back in the box they came out of & lights wound up neatly.
I always pack up the ornaments by color groups, because sometimes you want a red and gold tree, sometimes a blue and white tree, sometimes a peacock tree. Whichever mood strikes me when I go to decorate, all I need is the color palette I've chosen. I don't think my tree has ever looked the same way twice. Makes me happy to choose a different look each year!
I am a bee, so of course I have ALL the organization bins for my decorations! I got one for that allows to place the tree ornaments in individual spots, all padded. I got a bag for the tree! So, when we pull out the decor it’s all neat and when we put it back it’s all neat! I now need to label them too!
I'm a cricket. I discard any decorations that I didn't use the year before and I put everything back nicely at the end of the season. Knowing that the bins are messy inside would make me nuts and I would probably lose sleep thinking about it 😬 LOVED the video. Great ideas. I especially love the flower tree. 😊
You’re awesome Cas. You’re so creative and thanks for sharing your best tips with us. Thanks for being so transparent about the mess too. You’re so real and we appreciate it all. Can’t wait for your holiday baking videos. Last years’ were awesome and so helpful. My kids loved your recipes
I am a bee who has moved often. Lists and labeled bins are my jam! I begin by making a plan/list of what I want to use this year, then I shop my bins over the weekends between US Thanksgiving week (exterior decor week here in the upper Midwest) and the Sunday before Dec 24 (Dec 17th this year). Not only that, I have home chores for my adult children to assist us with. This year we are moving large rugs (8' × 12') between rooms for 2024-- a free refresh! 😊 And we keep the 12 Days of Christmas, so all is up until January 6th.
I am not a crafty person, but you made such beautiful things, I think I can do this. The reindeer candle holder really does look expensive. And I love both trees. 😊
You're as funny as usual!! Although I am a meticulously organized person at heart, during holiday decorating, I am a disaster too! Every room of my house, including the basement and the garage, look like they've been hit by a tornado! No place to even walk comfortably! And as for the glitter, well, my family members have resigned themselves to the fact that they will be "eating" it for the next 2 months! Thanks for making me laugh every time! You're an inspiring hoot!
Love the reindeer tiered tray and the books you covered in white paper to say "baby it's cold outside". I'm a butterfly, but my fall and Christmas organizations are pretty organized.
I have each room's decorations organized in its own bin-but there is a lot of "stuff" in them that can ake over that particular room until it is all decorated. I wrap all my Christmas items in tissue paper because we used to move often, and I was not sure if my Christmas decorations would survive otherwise. I pull everything out, not necessarily carefully, and put it in the bin top so I can see it. I get so excited seeing all the pretty things again. I grab items from the top of the bin as I go along. I have a lot of tree ornaments because I used to decorate 5 trees; one-family tree, 3 trees for each child, and one skinny tree in our hallway. I packed bins with just their ornaments that were in the original boxes and let them take what they wanted for their own trees when they had their own home. I kept their leftovers and only recently bought ornament packing boxes and started putting the ornaments in those, however, I kept a number of the Hallmark boxes they came in bc they were so fun to read about.
Cricket here :) I do find myself finding the perfect decor and not changing it up for years once I find what works in a space. Christmas is really the only holiday I go all out for-I maybe put up a few things for halloween or a bunting up for July. Storage...yeah, I do carefully box everything up but that's so it will fit back in (need to declutter it seems!)
Cute ideas! Never buy new if you can rehab what you have. I love thrift stores. Cheaper than even the dollar store. I have vintage mid century snowflake glasses I put battery powered candles in. 1950s ceramics that aren't readily available. I get sick of wreaths or the picks are discolored, I save the wreath and get new picks for it. I even use the garland trick on wreaths. Make my own bows too. Gave up on having a big tree and bought a large leg lap for the front window. It's an Ohio thing. We are proud of our little holiday movie that was filmed here. We have kind of adapted that lamp into our decor. Even have a crate to put it on. I try to be clean but never happens.
I'm an extreme cricket. I declutter when I'm getting ready to decorate and when I'm packing up. Everything goes back into original packaging and then into like-item tubs. I prefer the traditional, rutic tree, but the other is pretty. I love the DIY. I know the story for every ornament we own. And I tell them every year. We have more of a memory tree than a themed tree. The ornaments come fom our childhoods and our trips throughout the years.
Fantastic ideas! Easy and inexpensive. I'm definitely doing the cute bottle-brush tree woodland scene and embellishing my tree with flocked garlands and ribbon. I love all the tree styles but especially rustic. Ladybug here. The older I get, the fewer decorations I put out. All I can think of is dealing with the clean up and storage after Christmas and it overwhelms me!
I am a cricket and all mess is cleaned up and put away that same day no matter how tired I am. When I pack up for the season everything is in totes labeled what’s in it ❤
With things getting so expensive I'd love to see some videos upcycling already owned decorations and making "new" ones. To me that would be a fun collaboration to do with other UA-camrs! Happy Holidays!
So I am with your girl. My home is a wreck for two days. My husband is so sweet though. He just tolerates it and walks around all of it until I’m done and then we haul all the totes upstairs. It has all the previous season Decour in it. I just left Christmas decorating.
I have an elegant tree upstairs and a traditional red and green tree downstairs. As a former teacher I use that downstairs tree to display the precious teacher gifts I received over the years. I have long used the picks and ribbon to upscale my trees. Every year I try something new. This year it will be lovely long feathers that I sored cheaply from Temu. Our Dollar Tree is a hot mess. You can barely get down an aisle because there are half opened boxes everywhere. I fantasize about going there at night and working until the store looks great. I also can't seem to find some of the things you purchased, but I will go back and look again.
My two favorite hacks are your first one with the trees. And the deer on the mirror---totally cool! Good job, Cas. I'm somewhere in the middle. I take down Fall, put the items I am keeping in their bins, dust, and go for Christmas. It HAS to look messy at first--especially if you are moving things around to have a somewhat different look. Im definitely a ladybug--so the bins are a MUST.
Definitely the upstairs tree is my favorite. I was at my local $ Tree yesterday and, unfortunately, they had already sold out of a lot of their Christmas things. Thankfully the aisles had boxes of more ornaments, etc that the employees were unpacking. I allow myself to go crazy with decorating for both fall and Christmas. Hehe - you unload your decoration bins like I do. Everything is everywhere and my poor cat just hides under the bed for a couple of days.
I just moved into a place that has space for a Christmas tree and I'm so excited to decorate it! Thanks for all the tips! I haven't been to a dollar tree in a while 😅
Oh yes! I am a ladybug. I have so many Christmas totes, and no organization inside! I do at least wrap things, but I also keep all the broken things and the ornament boxes which will never again have the correct ornament inside
Hahahaha I love your style!!!! I pack up all my Thanksgiving and Fall stuff neatly before I even pull out my Christmas stuff. Then as I am decorating Im am putting the things I am removing from the tables and fireplace and any where else and placing them into the tubs after I take my Christmas items out of. I use the bubble wrap and paper and wrap all the items that Im tucking away for the Christmas season. Then I just Switch everything back after Christmas. I have all my tubs labeled such as “fireplace” “dining room side table” “Main stairs” “kitchen table” “side stairs” etc etc. one year I had the flu and my husband took everything out and just threw them in any tub and wrapped absolutely nothing. We had been married 40 yrs! Things broke and I cried and had so much anxiety having to straighten that huge mess out! I forbade him to ever touch “The Christmas Stuff” again! 😂
Thank you for the reindeer candle plate idea! We don’t have Dollar Tree here but I am definitely going to search something similar and copy the idea. So thanks!!!
Really enjoying this video! Like these simple, inexpensive craft ideas! I learned the hard way that red floral berries don't enjoy summering in a hot attic where I stored my Christmas decor. They burst open and revealed their Styrofoam innards. 😅 Maybe sharing this will save some of you when you pack your berries away. 😂
I'm a butterfly and I can totally relate...and then I'm like okay I decorated, someone else clean up :) I finally convinced my husband to stop using the ornament boxes a few years ago because it was like torture to put each ornament back in its wrapping and box and then tetris them alllllll into a large bin. That is not me.
Wow, you have such a knack for high-end decorating! The deer in the wreath looks unexpected and beautiful. The upstairs tree with the red is outstanding!!!!! So gorgeous. I love that you used red and green for Christmas, and not black or gray (no Christmassy feeling there!) I'm off to Dollar Tree for picks!
Our tree (only 1) is pretty much just a place to hang all the homemade or gifted ornaments we've made or received over the years. ie. It's more of a memory holder than "decor". And we LOVE it.
I have a few of those apple picks that I've had for years now, they hold up really well if you treat them with kindness. Both trees are pretty, but I'm leaning toward the rustic flocked one. I'm undecided as to my tree theme this year, so I'm watching videos hoping for inspiration! 🎄🎅
I haven't been able to decorate in 4 years because I'm still trying to renovate my whole house & declutter...it isn't working out well 😒 but your house is beautiful! 🥰 I hope that I'll be able to decorate next Christmas (I've said that every year for the last 3 years)
Believe in yourself and you'll get there. I find it helpful to make your self a guide, write down what you want to accomplish, break it into easy to tackle steps and you'll soon have that home you long for.
Ok, Cas, the reindeer candle holder is genius! I am a person who had a peach Christmas tree in the 90’s so, I like both your trees for different rooms and environments. I like that you embrace cheaper things because I think these days we need to be smart about what we spend our money on. I had to laugh when you described someone carefully unwrapping decorations to put up. That would be me. As it is, the mess gets to me. I always think…maybe one day I will be a more laid back person. So far that hasn’t happened. Lol. Your new home looks very nice. You are doing a great job!
My house is a complete disaster, just like you. And I keep a basket or box on the stairs to collect Christmas buys through out the year. My hubby says I'm beyond help. But I LOVE IT! My happy place is amongst my Christmas Chaos!
Love these ideas Cass! I'm in the UK but going to use the rules to check out Home Bargains (our equivalent here) I feel like you should sell all your creations they come out so beautifully and great for the people that aren't even that crafty and don't have a glue gun or spray paint!!
I am a cricket and I am pretty methodical when decorating for Christmas. One I have way too much Christmas stuff but I love it. As a result, I have to clear out my display cases of its normal decor and pack it in the Christmas boxes as I go. Then come January 1st I have to reverse the process to switch it back out. I also have a lot of breakable things that I want to make sure they are protected.
Packing up holiday décor in clear storage bins is as simple as separating like things/colors into storage bins. It's so much easier to decorate the next year when it's organized, and you can see exactly what you which bin you need at a glance. Also, if you don't have clear bins, simply label the contents. Two thumbs up for adding decorated garland to the tree. I was amazed at how much fuller the tree looked! The assorted bottle brush display you made looks high-end. And I loved the turtle dove ornaments!
I am totally a classic cricket everything is super sorted, and meticulously wrapped in labeled bins. I actually have bins labeled for what room it decorates, I have printed photos of how I decorated an area the previous year, makes it super fast and easy. And my husband kids and grandkids can all help, and they know exactly where to put things. I'm also a professional cleaner and organizer. So fun to decorate a client's home and then set up the system for them as well.
I am just like that with Christmas decorations, can’t deal with it in January when everything is going away. Normally I am not like that. I put things neatly away but I have a brother and other realativs with ADHD so I think I have a tiny stroke of that. At least for taking down Christmas decor! Love these small stories in the end. I sometimes skip parts and go for the end story! ❤
Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I like the rustic tree. I'm an "old-fashioned Christmas tree" kind of girl. I guess I'm a "neat and methodical" decorator. I have all my decor stored by item type so I usually take it one bin at a time and place items from that bin all around the house, then I move on to the next. I don't always get that instant reward of seeing one space done, however, when the last bin is done then the whole house is done. I store any items that I remove for Christmas into the empty bins. Keeps it safe and out of the way. When the holidays are done and I put everything away, I wrap everything and put it all back nice and neat. I'd go crazy just knowing that the bins were all messy if I didn't, and yes, I'm a Cricket.
Both trees are beautiful and elegant. It's funny because for the first time I decorated my tree with pink and gold. Lol. I love all your hacks. I think I'm going to copy you. I'm a mess when decorating 😀
I love both your trees! We live in a townhouse without room for a traditional tree. It’s just my husband and I. Recently I donated most of the bright, glittery holiday decor. I’m going for a more minimal, muted, neutral style now. Less to put out and pack away.
We also don't really have room for a tree (nor a burning desire to make room) so we get the vibe with a nice wreath over the fireplace with some battery powered LED lights. I also have an ornament holder to display a couple favorites. I agree the more neutral stuff sits better- but I find I really needed to find some pops of red to make it look "christmas"- not much, far less than one might think.
I am a cricket. Holiday decor is neatly packed away each year. Both trees are beautiful. I prefer the rustic, traditional look. Also, love the reindeer centerpiece! If the Dollar Tree near me has the items I will be making that.
Everything looks great! I used to decorate for Christmas. I'm a crafty person. I made wreaths for my 2 kids for their homes. I'm making another type this year for them. A 3-D wooden star with fairy lights. I haven't decorated my home since 2020. Nobody was coming that year, so I only put up my small 2.5 foot tree. It's actually decorated, in a bag, in a box. I just pull it out and plug it in. Done. I put up my wreath (that was handmade by a friend) also. When I did decorate, I took my time and took things out of boxes, and put other things that were in the house into the boxes while the Christmassy things got put out. (switched places) I did have my hubby put lights on the house and our blow up stuff and candy canes. I get depressed if the lights are not on the house. So that helps. I don't know if I'll put up the tree this year. I had a loss last year. I didn't decorate last year either. When my kids were younger, I decorated a great deal.
Out of a lack of energy, I usually decorate in "shifts." I start with the tree in my family room. It's my favorite so it motivates me to do more. When I'm finished decorating that tree (BTW, all the decor for that tree is stored in one cube to make it easy to find.) I clean up my mess and the next day I take out the next project. I would say I'm a bit of a combo bug. I like things out where I can see them but the stuff I don't use every day gets organized in detail in my cupboards and closets. Sometimes my closets look better than the outside areas. Go figure.
Your video is probably the best Dollar Tree DYI Christmas decor video in the entire UA-cam.
I'd definitely like to see the guide to how to pack all these items up in the new year, without destroying everything. 🦋

Thanks for sharing!
I love that reindeer candle holder! What a great piece! You always surprise us! Keep doing what you do! Hugs!🎄🎄🎄
:)
I agree! It is beautiful!
I know. My daughter is married and out of the house so I don’t decorate like I used to.
I get that.
I am a cricket and all mess is cleaned up and put away that same day no matter how tired I am. When I pack up for the season everything is in totes labeled what’s in it ❤
I get the feeling that Cass loves decorations for Christmas.
I’m a bee and everything neatly comes out of the boxes and gets put up, and neatly goes back in when the season is over. 😊
Awesome!
Love the bottle brush display & reindeer candle holder!! ❤️🎄🦌
Q1
Definitely the upstairs tree is my favorite. I was at my local $ Tree yesterday and, unfortunately, they had already sold out of a lot of their Christmas things. Thankfully the aisles had boxes of more ornaments, etc that the employees were unpacking. I allow myself to go crazy with decorating for both fall and Christmas. Hehe - you unload your decoration bins like I do. Everything is everywhere and my poor cat just hides under the bed for a couple of days.
100% cricut. Everything wrapped and labeled. The ornament organizer is everything!
:)
Both trees are gorgeous. If I have to pick one that’s my style it would be the upstairs.
I just moved into a place that has space for a Christmas tree and I'm so excited to decorate it! Thanks for all the tips! I haven't been to a dollar tree in a while 😅
Rustic, traditional tree is my favorite. ❤️ But, everything is GORGEOUS & AFFORDABLE.
I'm a lady bug . But I do admire those folks that put individual ornaments back in their compartments year after year ! ☺️
Also a Ladybug and I do a half-a@$ed job of putting my things back in tge bins. 😮
Oh yes! I am a ladybug. I have so many Christmas totes, and no organization inside! I do at least wrap things, but I also keep all the broken things and the ornament boxes which will never again have the correct ornament inside
Literally have ornaments almost 30 years old and they’re still in their original packaging.
You are so welcome!
All pretty. I like the blue added for a spark of color
Yes, red candles can melt too!
Rustic natural tree and that tree decoration is absolutely beautiful ❤
Fun Christmas DIYs. Your trees look beautiful!
Thank you!
You are adorable and fun to be around! I enjoyed this video so much! Super creative and cozy!
:)
I absolutely love the reindeer candle holder! Totally making that! Great job girl!
has anyone seen acrylic snow people at DT? (i haven't yet)
Youre so creative. Im glad you are reusing older items and make them unique.
@kittikins1 thank you 😊
Ok, Cas, the reindeer candle holder is genius!
Thank you!
Love that you decorate your table with tall trees and candles! I say, don't remove it... buy a bigger table!😁😁😆🥰🤩
HAHAHAHA!
I add poinsettia flowers to my tree and stems of leaves, pine cones, etc. I love red for Christmas so add lots of red. Gold too.
I love the rustic, natural... I also like using the flowers.
Love both trees! But the reindeer candle holder though. That's life!!
Right!!
I'm motivated to decorate now!! What have I been waiting for...we need a little more cheer in our lives right now...why not!
Glad you like them!
Omg your DT is huuuge and soooo nice. I'm soooo jealous. The ones here are put in old abandoned shopping plazas, old CVS etc.
Love that you dressed up what you had. It turned out beautiful!!!
Thank you! 😊
I spot your Thirty One pillow case!!!!❤
Both trees are beautiful and elegant. It's funny because for the first time I decorated my tree with pink and gold. Lol. I love all your hacks. I think I'm going to copy you. I'm a mess when decorating 😀
Great ideas! In years past, I'd go all out decorating my house. As the years go by, simplicity reins. But I do love this season. ❤
I LOVE both but the red and green are my favorite. You always do a special job
Go figure.
