Hi sir im done subscribed , im beginner english learner :) i have question, many people says that choose one to focus listening or learning in english .. 1. American english 2. British english Which one is ok sir ?? Thank you godbless
Hi Luke , This is a late good morning to you from Kanchanaburi Thailand. In response to your podcast being released today on “ English funny signs “ and there is a sign at a temple in Bangkok which say’’ It is forbidden to enter a woman even a foreigner if dressed as a man. Here are my thoughts about the sign. A.Any temples nationwide in this country is regarded as a public place of worship and you are allowed to visit/enter freely but under some guidelines of dress code. So there is no doubt about entering the premises unless any religious functions are being performed. B. I’m quite sure this sign must be placed in front of the ladies room at the temple to prohibit any trans to use the facilities even if they are dressed as women. There are a lot more hilarious signs in English scattered around this country with some are beyond your imagination. This is purely ‘’Thinglish” or English a la Thaïe .
Hi Luke, could you please explain your PERCEPTION, a feeling towards "a home" from the sign "Every 13 minutes a home is burgled in London". I mean why is it "a certain/particular/specific home", not "a home as a class", "a home in general", in this case for you as a native speaker? It is not an inquiry for more grammar. I am interested more in your intuitive approach. If it is possible to describe, of course. Thanks!
A home can mean “one home”, and therefore this is slightly ambiguous. It could mean both “one home each time” or “one different home each time”. My first impression with the sign is that I understand both possible meanings simultaneously and I’m always looking for funny double meanings and so it stuck in my mind.
@@LukesEnglishPodcast thank you! If you've never had a podcast about English articles, there is an idea for one exactly in terms of how native speakers intuitively perceive their usage. The podcast was hilarious.
@@ghadahafez5011 they lie to us :-) This is not as straight as ESL textbooks put it. You can say "A certain house in London was a target for burglars 3 times this month". This means there is a house, quite certain, you didn't specify what it was in your speech BUT you pointed out it was A CERTAIN one and quite unique. Still, you don't do a specific reference to it, so it is still A certain HOUSE. Disclaimer: I am a non-native too and I skipped my grammar classes altogether ;-)
Hi Luke, thanks for sharing this information. I tried to find the PDF, but I coudn't find it in the transcription. It would be great if you can tell me. Thanks in advance.

yeah as a non-native I found it not a specific home cause an indefinite article is used
A home can mean “one home”, and therefore this is slightly ambiguous. It could mean both “one home each time” or “one different home each time”.
