Damon Howatt was my great-Uncle. He created his company in Yakima, WA (USA). He was a good man, as well as artist. He passed in 1966, 5 years before my birth, so I never knew him; I just wonderful stories that my family have spoken on. I have one of the paintings that he created. I was told that he painted many and they were walled at his company building. I went there (I live in Yakima) and that was the only time I had met the current owners.. Unfortunately, I was told that they sold all the artwork that lined the walls. I know nothing of how the company is now run. I do know; however, the Howatt bows have obviously been shipped throughout the world, used at incredible events like the opening celebration of the 1992 Olympics...,used in the opening scene of Dukes of Hazard, Used in many movies like the Hunger Games and more.
I love Martin's advertising photos lol
Damon Howatt is now under new and independent ownership. After listening to the new owner on a recent podcast, it sounds like they are very dedicated to re-establishing Howatt and an industry leader in the Trad Archery world and growing the brand. He also said that they will be keeping Howatt American made as well as establishing a second new brand that will be built overseas with Howatt designs and oversight. It sounds like they are heading in the right direction...so fingers crossed.
thanks for some historical information about archery i never knew any of this 😁
I still have my non fast flight Hatfield Takedown Hunter. Your Dad sold a lot of those bows with good reason.
Very solidly built, easy shooters and still fast compared to any modern bows. Mine is 60lb at 28 and even though it's a bit heavy for me these days I will bring it out to shoot 8gpp at the 3D club just to see the jaws drop on those that aren't familiar with the bow.
Watching your channel is a class in retail & wholesale. Thanks!
Yes, nice looking bows and quality , hope there still making bows as well. 👌
Just ordered a new Damon Howatt "Conviction" (Dream catcher).
Looks simply stunning, we'll see how she shoots very soon.
Did you ever receive your bow? I got on their list to buy a bow but never heard back from them, That's been well over a year ago.
Thanks for taking the time and sharing, for me being a newbie to archery that's is really interesting...👍👍
When I was a kid ( 1960's) Damon Howatt were one of the big players in recurves. They were out of my price range back then but were very popular in my archery club.
Thanks for the informative video Steve.
Much appreciated.
I have a few Howatt bows, mostly bought from Steven Hanns dad, Brian. I truly hope Damon Howatt bows do return and are manufactured to at least the same quality they were back then and not a cheap imitation of the quality product they once were. Having a 65lb Hunter I'd love to get a new one in a lighter draw weight.
They never stopped making them
@@bradmoulton138 just availability on new Damon Howatt bows in Australia where I am seems to have dried up for years, the ones I have are all 1960s to 70s with the latest being the 65lb hunter bought in the early 1980s.. would like to get my hands on a new hunter around 50lb but price to bring in a one only a bit prohibitive..would be awesome to see a Dealer here in Australia again.
@@bradmoulton138wrong, have you tried to buy one in the last 12 months that wasn't shop stock?
Hi Steve, my hunting bow in the early 80s was a Damon Howatt Ventura 65lb recurve, great bow and wish i had it back.
Martin Bows , compound and recurve were the cat’s meow in the 70’s and 80’s here in the states! Very beautiful and inspiring bows! Maybe you should buy Damon Howat bows!?!
Back in the day I had a Martin recurve & a Martin compound. Martin used to cover the whole back page of catalogs with their new model compounds. Had alot of hunting success with the Martin/Muzzy combo. Times change over 3 decades & people who r into so many different brands have no idea how big that company was.
Love my 3 DH Bows. Haven't tried to pull back the 80# custom bushmaster in awhile. I should buy a new string and see where I'm at with it. I know I struggle with the 90# Howard Hill Redman. It's hell getting old!!
Martin never left Walla Walla until recently. After the purchase of Obsession, they moved Martin to the Obsession plant.
Just a few months ago they moved the DH stuff to Georgia as well.
The Lewis family are the new owners.
After Gail passed...Terry sold it to a company called DIVERSIS out of California. They were an investment firm not an archery company and they ran the company into the ground.
THE NEW HOWATTS ARE COMING SOON...they stopped production because of the move.
They never closed...just paused during the move.
The have a website now and are taking orders and will be having new models even a ilf riser, I was a shooter for DH but it's up in the air for shooters this year but they have some beautiful bow you can look at and a new longbow the viper
Though audio was a bit noisy (sounded like connection issue instead of wind) it could still be heard and the video was overall still enjoyable. Thanks for posting. I expect the next 2-3 years at least before its worth looking for if businesses (in general, not just archery) are stable vs expanding and closing at unusual rates. Always saddened to see players lave the community when it needs to grow.Going to likely get mom into her own bow and its weird following removals, upgrades/replacements, and change of who's name is on products.
LOL.....Mike Bush was in a couple of those pictures
I buy from you because it supports the whole system and I know you support archery in Aussie
I will always have a martin bow , I was introduced to martin by Ted nugget , I know that martin isn't the fastest or the quietest but I love shooting them . I wish someone would do a review on the martin dsx 33
Brilliant bit of history...just into archery myself... can't understand why compound bows are getting so heavy? Martin seem to keep their target bows around 4lbs.
Damon Howatt was recently split off of Martin Archery and is under new ownership as Damon Howatt Traditional Bows. They are still working on a website and a 2023 catalog but have been posting on their new Facebook page.
They're still part of Martin
Steve now’s your chance to have your own line of bows
I think 3 more months they will be sending orders
I guess archery is one of those exceptions to the marketing mantra of "sex sells." Archers might browse the Martin adds to check out the pretty models holding the bows, but it's how good the shooting experience of a brand is that builds success. Archers could care less if a pretty girl is holding a bow if the bow shoots like crap.
Hey I hope you’re alright I know those high blood pressure medicines can really take the wind out of you.
