It’s making my long rides so much more enjoyable. And listening to big 3+ hour chunks is fun because the story moves pretty quick considering how long it is
I'm currently rereading all of the stormlight archive in preparation for Knights of Wind and Truth. It's a commitment but I've done it for each new book 📖 worth it every time.
I started with mistborn then went to Elantris and Warbreaker then stormlight then wax and Wayne then his secret books which are all stand-alones then back to reread stormlight to make sure I remember everything for the new stormlight coming out. But to each their own right
I've heard a few people say to take breaks during Stormlight Archive, but as someone who started reading Sanderson with TWoK there was no way I was stopping after just one!! I'm obsessed
I started with Elantris and it alone made me want to read more of Sanderson's work. Mistborn was the second book of his that i read and BOY did it not disappoint! Sense then he has become one of my favorite authors if not my favorite. What he did with the WoT series by Robert Jordan was nothing but impressive! I didn’t think anyone would be able to wrap that series up, not even Jordan himself. Lol. Stormlight is a great read as well and i DID burn straight through all of them without breaks. The thing i appreciate the most about Sanderson is that he puts out books as fast as i read them! Or so it seems lol. No waiting 15 years for the next book... you know who im talking about.
Started with Elantris, will start following the rest of this recommendation from Sanderson. Really enjoying Elantris, I have to force myself to put it down to keep a healthy pace.
Personally, I read all three of the first Mistborn trilogy and loved them. Took a break to read other stuff after. Buddy from college started raving about Stormlight. Have read all four but it takes me months to read each one 😂

The fact that you became my favorite author right after I ignored every single advice to read mistborn first and read the entire Alcatraz series in a month 😂 I always recommend people start with it first now!
Last year I listened to: Ellantris, Mistborn 1, Warbreaker, & then the 4 Storm Light books. Plus, read the secret novels. Thinking about relistening to all the audio before SL 5 :)
Warbreaker is 100% my recommendation for intro into Sanderson works. Mistborn is my fave completed fantasy series, but I find Warbreaker a lot easier to get into. My gf doesn’t read much fantasy, but I’ve been reading Warbreaker to her and she’s been loving it.
For the Cosmere ( I want to note that I don't think i'd recommend what I have done so far reading the Stormlight Archive, but it hasn't gone poorly, so i think you'd be ok, lol): i started with the Stormlight Archive. lol. But I only read like, 150 pages then went on to read other books/series--- one of those books being Warbreaker. Then I read half of The Way of Kings, stopped, then finished a little over half of Mistborn (book 1). then went back and finished The Way of Kings. And Now finished about half of Word of Radiance. It's been so hard to decided what to read next but admittedly I have been subbed to this page on my private account for years, ever since I found the creagive writing lectures. Considering I am reading Red Rising atm (some of the craziest twists I have ever read) I am very excited to read and review these books!. I'll be following the recommended reading order here.
@@nick-kqi I have the reviews on my channel for each book. But I would say that it's easily the mist entertaining series that I have read. I have issues with it, but I tend to overlook some of those because the story is just so damn fun 😂
okay, so I actually entered the Cosmere more or less properly in the 2010s, haha :D My first WAS Final Empire after all. And after Mistborn Triloy 1, I think I read either Elantris or Warbreaker.
started Way of Kings, read through epilogue and first chapter, LOVE IT, but everyone is saying to start Mistborn since it’s already complete, so i’m pausing Stormlight and starting that. 👍
Ive read all standalones except elantris. Im on the last mistborn first trilogy. I might pick up elantris then And then reread cytoverse. Then start way of kings. Then after every book, read the second mistborn trilogy. Then read the filler books in between. I dont know if its the ideal order, but I did anyway. And I am having a blast
I'm still reading through Sanderson's works but I do not regret starting with Mistborn Era 1 and going from there. My reading order (so far) - Mistborn Era 1 - Elantris - Mistborn Era 2 (3 out of 4 books) - Warbreaker - Way of Kings (Halfway through) - Sunlit Man (Halfway through) I plan on reading Tress or Yumi next, before moving onto more Stormlight Archives.
Tress is a great story that is written for YA readers who can appreciate the narrator, meaning they’ve already read Stormlight 1-4. For that person, it is a superb book.
I started with way of kings and loved it. I feel like starting with either mistborn era 1 (if you’re more used to YA, lower fantasy, or non-fantasy) or stormlight (if you’re looking for epic or more high fantasy feel) are the best since they feel the most like the “backbone” of the cosmere. Everything else is easier after those two cause you start to see the connections easier once you understand mistborn and stormlight.
These are good suggestions. I read almost in the same order, with the original Mistborn trilogy, but then I read the Reckoners series. But instead of reading the Stormlight Archives interspersed with others, I tried to read straight through. By the middle of Oathbringer I was thoroughly Sandersoned out. I had to take a Sanderson hiatus. While I have read some standalones since then, I still haven't finished Oathbringer.
My order is: - Mistborn 1-3 - Elantris (bold move, I know, but I actually liked the book) - Warbreaker - Stormlight 1-2 - Tress (while waiting for Arcanum Unbounded to arrive to mail, there's 0 copies of it and Edgedancer in my country fsr) - Currently reading Oathbringer
Brandon, you and I have had this conversation. I agree with Mistborn 1/2/3 first, but then Elantris. Then a short or two, Defending Elysium and/or Firstborn. Then Warbreaker, then the Wax and Wayne Mistborn series, then The Way of Kings.
Loving Sanderson in the year 2024. Started with mistborn and blew through the whole trilogy. Then i went straignt into stormlight. Got about halfway thru Rhythm of War. Theyre all so good but finally hit a bit of a wall. Taking a break with a nice lil series called Wheel of time. Halfway thru book 4 of that and then going to circle back and either start stormlight over once book 5 comes out or maybe just start at book 4 again. Going to need to get to warbreaker here at some point.
I read the first mistborn trilogy first, and while that is probably good advice in general, it didn't make me super eager to read more Sanderson. They were fun books that I enjoyed enough to read all the way through multiple times, but they didn't "speak" to me much. I assumed that that was the writer Sanderson was. I'd watched and loved his lecture series, but I assumed that his style just wasn't precisely for me. Then I read The Way of Kings. I read it precisely when I needed to. To this day, I've never been more affected by a book or series, or any media for that matter. Kaladin in particular is a character that I can genuinely say, with no exaggeration, changed my approach to life. Not through any profound or complex argumentation, but by example. Stormlight is a daunting series, but if you're not bothered by the relatively slow pace and gargantuan length, the payoff is more than worth the time.

And then reread cytoverse.
My reading order (so far)
- Mistborn Era 1
- Elantris
- Mistborn Era 2 (3 out of 4 books)
- Warbreaker
- Way of Kings (Halfway through)
- Sunlit Man (Halfway through)
I plan on reading Tress or Yumi next, before moving onto more Stormlight Archives.
Tress is a great story that is written for YA readers who can appreciate the narrator, meaning they’ve already read Stormlight 1-4. For that person, it is a superb book.
I was on book 3 and decided to listen to all of the wheel of time books and now on book 4. Must say I needed a good reminder of what was going on 😂
I started with Stormlight Archive, sorry Brandon! I have to say I´m loving it big time, Kaladin is the best character I have found in ages
Sanderson, my guy. Not reading Stormlight 1-3 first is crazy. ❤
Everything else is easier after those two cause you start to see the connections easier once you understand mistborn and stormlight.
mistborn, then warbreaker. agreed
My order is:
- Mistborn 1-3
- Elantris (bold move, I know, but I actually liked the book)
- Warbreaker
- Stormlight 1-2
- Tress (while waiting for Arcanum Unbounded to arrive to mail, there's 0 copies of it and Edgedancer in my country fsr)
- Currently reading Oathbringer
Brandon, you and I have had this conversation. I agree with Mistborn 1/2/3 first, but then Elantris. Then a short or two, Defending Elysium and/or Firstborn. Then Warbreaker, then the Wax and Wayne Mistborn series, then The Way of Kings.
This is about the order I've been using too
Loving Sanderson in the year 2024.
I loved Sixth of the Dawn I cannot wait for its secret project next year!
