Thanks for this video! I think the pencil sound test is awesome. Inexpensive and seem hard to fake. Gold sounded very distinctive, at least on the video!
Yeah, I couldn't justify buying a $2K analyzer so I use the ping, magnet, scale, packaging, and surface features to test. The ping test looks to be pretty reliable at outing any tungsten fakes, hopefully.
Magnets will not pick up pure tungsten, and all magnets will detect ferromagnetic material. We use neodymium because they are strong magnets, better for Eddy currents.
Hi Everyone, One of the things to note is that the ping test does not work for all coins depending on the size and composition of the coin. The link to the testing device underdevelopment is now onetroyounce.com/blogs/news/gold-and-silver-testing-using-a-magnetic-pendulum apologies the eonbullion site is down at the moment.
Every gold 1oz Maple I own goes "thud" when I ping it. They were all bought from different sources at different times and I've heard others report the same thing. I had two questionable 1oz gold (maple and bar) tested at a local coin dealer recently and both tested good (used a Sigma machine).
I wonder if the thud could be (in part) due to the face design... the concentric raised spines that radiate out... maybe they have a dampening effect on the harmonics of the coin. No idea here... just hypothesizing on what you said. I can't afford gold, but out of all the state silver coins out there, the maple leaf appeals to me most.
Yes, it doesn’t work on every coin, the American eagle is an alloy coin, the ping test doesn’t work well on smaller coins. Check out my Eddy current tester, should be available soon.
No. Like he pointed out, Tungsten has the same specific gravity as gold. It works well for silver though. There are expensive machines that are much more reliable.

Glad it was helpful!
I picked the fake from the lack of luster. Real coin glowed with a slight cart wheel. Very helpful video thanks.
Tungsten is also radioactive, so if you had a sensitive geiger-counter, it would be easy to tell which one is real!
This is a strange comment, tungsten is not naturally radioactive.

This was a great video 👍 very informative, much appreciated !!!🙏🙏🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Very good video. The pencil test is a great idea.
Ive seen neodymium magnets pick up tungsten securely but cheap iron magnets can't. How do you know if the magnet from amazon etc isnt a fake too?

could you put the coin or bar on a piece of Styrofoam and float onto water then use the magnet?
This is a very delicate test, very hard to differentiate with this test. The fake one would also be slightly repulsive.
Nice video sir 💖💖👍👍
Thanks, I'm glad you found it informative!
The easiest way is vinegar put the gold jewelry in vengar i have a cuban chian that i introduced it in a glass of venigar

I've always wanted to buy uranium, put bubbles through it and coat it in gold for the lols
😂

999 gold will not ring like a 22K Eagle, Sovereign or Krugerand

Couldn't you just tie a string to the end of the magnet and make a pendulum that way.
yes but then the spirits would come a callin
Learn how to do a specific gravity test. Then you will know the truth.
That’s a very delicate test
