I'll add my recommendation for GHOST to this one. Whoopie does a great acting job and the movie itself is wonderful!
Part 2 is quite different but a solid sequel. It’s still got that feel good tone throughout. And who wouldn’t want more Dolores?
Looked at a couple comments about part 2 thinking, “Nobody’s mentioning Lauren Hill!!” Then I thought, “OMG I’m so old.” Still, Lauren Hill is great in Pt2.
Yes, Sister Act 2 is solid, I watched both part 1 and part 2 on packed theaters.
Sister Act 2 is just as good if not better, imo. I love the competition at the end.

Sister Mary Patrick is portrayed by the great Kathy Najimy, voice of Peggy Hill from King of the Hill. She was also one of the witches from Hocus Pocus.

It you haven't seen it, I'd recommend you watch "Ghost" with Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Swayze. She won an Oscar for that role. Phenomenal job.

Whoopi was an amazing actress in the late 80’s early 90’s. You should check out her Oscar winning role for Best Supporting Actress in Ghost, which is considered one of the top romantic and top Supernatural films of all-time. She was also nominated for Best Actress for the film The Color Purple. She is phenomenal in that film and Oprah was also in that film and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
The Color Purple is a hell of a movie. Oprah, Whoopie, Danny Glover, Spielberg directing and Quincy Jones with the music. Not an easy watch though...

The first time I saw here in a movie when I was a kid was "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and she did great in that too. The years following to its release they used to show it on TV and I used to watch it every opportunity I had.

Maggie Smith is great in this. She has some incredibly cutting insults on the sly and I love how she softens by the end.

The second one is just as wonderful as the first one. A few interesting things, some of the nuns in the choir have actually been on Broadway and also that is actually Whoopi singing, I look forward to you seeing the second one:)
Definitely 2 is a great sequel. The music may even be better than the 1st.

As a former choir geek, you have no IDEA how incredible this movie is if you've spent any time in a church or a choir group... I'm so happy you enjoyed it!

The sequel to this, Sister Act: Back in the Habit is also really great. I highly recommend it. Much of the same cast plus new characters

Back in the day, Whoopi was a great actress. She won an Oscar for The Color Purple, but the movie she did before (Eddie) was an acting tour de force. She was just awesome in that film.
The sequel to Sister Act is just as good as the original, if not better. Lauren Hill was so great, both singing and acting.
She didn't win the Oscar for The Color Purple. She won 5 years later for Ghost.

"Sister Act" is the clear winner of the two films. Disney Plus is working on "Sister Act 3" as well., so might be a good idea to do a trilogy.😀

The sequel's a bit better - less gunplay, lots of new, interesting characters added, and more singing.

This one's actually based on a true story - they just wrapped it into the Sister Act universe.

Sequel is also pretty good. Heck, it might be even better. Definitely give it a watch! And if you enjoy Whoopi, you just gotta see Jumpin Jack Flash. Her best comedy movie IMO. EDIT: After just rewatching some of Sister Act 2, yes, I think it is even better! I mean, for gods sake, it' got Lauren Hill in it.

The sequel was brilliant. It also featured a very young Jennifer Love Hewitt as one of the backup singers.
That is her real voice. Jennifer Lewis who plays one of the background singers in the movie taught her how to sing. Jennifer Lewis is also a great actress and singer.

One of my favorite character actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals is here-Sister Mary Lazarus, the original choir leader, is played by Mary Wickes. Whenever she pops up in a movie, I am happy to see her.
You HAVE to watch the second film. The sequel is awesome as well. It may not have gangsters after the character, but it is still a solid film. And some amazing music as well. Don't worry, won't spoil the movie any more than that for you.
Though I do have to add, my favorite line from both films comes from the second, "Go with God, Crispy."
If you loved Whoopi's acting in this you should totally watch The Color Purple
and Start Trek: The Next Generation too!

My mum is a huge Whoopi fan and I grew up watching a lot of her movies in the 80s and 90s. This is my go to film for when I want my spirits to be lifted up, it brings so much joy and the soundtrack is killer! Sister Act 2 is definitely worth your time, it’s the same yet very different.
"Gangsters are always Catholic but they're ok with killing". We had to read Brighton Rock by Graham Green at school. The underlying theme is "nobody knows how to sin better than a Catholic".
I'm so glad to have found someone who loves this movie as much as I do.
In my opinion this is one of last few real wholesome movies ever made. Pure fun, and joy.
Whoopi is a top tier actress! She's done some phenomenal screen work, from The Color Purple, to Jumpin' Jack Flash, and of course Ghost. I think this is her most fondly remembered film, and for good reason, but she really doesn't get enough credit for her acting overall.
She has, alas, not done a damn thing in the past 20 years. Her best showing was teenage Ninja mutant turtles.
The stage musical for Sister Act is really good. Highly recommend listening to the cast album. It's from Alan Menken, the songwriter for Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

Might I also recommend Corrina Corrina. Must watch along with The Color Purple. Not enough people remember these and they are fantastic!

I was 12 years old when I saw this in the theater with my best friend Benjamin in the summer of 1992. During the final scene I literally wanted to stand up and sing. Love this movie! ❤️

While Sister Act 2 isn't quite the film this one is, my general philosophy is if you have the opportunity to see Lauryn Hill perform, you should take it.
The sequel holds up! It's different than this one. It's definitely worth the viewing!!

The soundtrack for this movie is great, we sung it in my high school choir; we liked it so much, we did the soundtrack for sister act 2 in a later quarter.

The nuns in my city actually went out to see this when it came out. They loved it!
The actress who played Sister Mary Lazarus was the late, great Mary Wickes. She had a career that lasted from the 1930s to the 1990s. She was in classic films such as Abbot and Costello’s “Who Done It” and the holiday classic “White Christmas.” She was the live-action model for the artists when originally drawing Cruella De Vil in “101 Dalmatians.” She would play the grandmother in “Postcards from the Edge” in 1990. Her final onscreen role was Aunt March in the 1994 version of “Little Women,” and her final performance was the gargoyle Laverne in Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
The music in Sister Act 2 was even better.
If you want to see Whoopi's acting skills at her best I recommend watching The Color Purple from 1985. It was her acting debut that won her a Golden Globe award for Best Actress as well as a Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Loved this movie as a child, happy to see it still holds up. Though reception at the time didn’t reflect it, I think most of us who were younger think that Sister Act 2 is even better. At the very least, I think the music is better. (And it stars a young Lauryn Hill as well)

Yes. While I very much enjoyed the first Sister Act, the sequel was MY JAM! Watched it sooo many times growing up.

Yes! Do the sequel! It is also very enjoyable to watch. And I'm sure you'll recognize some familiar faces in that movie as well. My family and I watch both movies back-to-back. It's alot of fun to get together and sing along to the songs.

Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia ) was also a writer and a screenwriter during the 80s and the 90s. For that film, she did a pass to punch up the dialogs.

Sister Act was meant for Grammy winning singer Bette Midler which makes more sense with the Italian affair storyline but she passed to do the film For the Boys which was not as successful but won her a Golden Globe.
She's an academy award winning actress. Watch Ghost and the Color Purple to see how amazing she is.

Oh if this is the first time you've seen her act, you definitely want to see her performance in "The Colour Purple". Highly recommend checking this one out. It's a classic by Spielberg.
Also, I really REALLY loved her in "Jumpin' Jack Flash". It's in general a movie which is dear to me. But it's very underrated and rather forgotten tbh, so I can see why barely anyone covers it. :'3
Sister act is cribbed from an earlier movie called brother orchard in which a gangster (Edward g Robinson) is holed up in a monetary. It’s also very funny in a deadpan manner especially as the monks and gangster learn from each other. Well worth watching.

As I recall, the casino is supposed to be in Reno, Nevada, and the convent is in Oakland, California. They're about 4 hours apart by car, depending on traffic. And obviously less if you can arrange a private plane, as the nuns did.
