  • I sat down on the first day of 2024 to reflect on the year that has past. While I know a lot of people thought this was a pretty bad year, I found that it was another good one for riding and motorcycle travel.

I was drawn to your channel for the travel videos. You have covered a great deal of miles on 2 wheels. So your advice I do take to heart in reference to what works and what doesn't while traveling on motorcycle. I'm 58 and I've been retired 3 years now so I have started doing some motorcycle touring myself. Nothing on your level but more like 4 day weekend trips. I do not do the camping thing I do it the easy way. All hotels. Lol. I also have enjoyed your philosophical videos. I noticed that they do make sense to me in away that maybe 20 yrs ago they wouldn't have. Keep up the good work.... 👍

Happy New Year! I always enjoy your videos, in particular, the process of the trip. I enjoy the stopping for gas, conversations with locals, checking into hotels, and of course the dining! The small maintenance tips for long trips is really useful and should be rehashed for newer viewers I think. Honestly, there are so many reviews out there of equipment, unless it is an unusual or something that someone hasn't really thought of for motorcycle use, I tend to be less interested. Best of luck to you, and stay safe out there!

I am not a dedicated viewer of your channel, but I do watch occasionally. I agree with you about all the manufacturing being done in China. I don't like it either, but I'm not sure what can done about it. I think you have to decide what type of videos you want to produce. Not every video is a hit, and you can't be everything to everyone. I think you do a great job, so keep up the good work.

For me, the highlight of Prudhoe Bay was taking a swim in the 36 degree Artic Ocean. It was a short swim, but a bucket list item. The Arctic Caribou Inn was neat actually staying in the same place as the oil field workers, but it is gone now. It would be fun to ride to many of the other destinations you mention. I’d love to be able to get my KLR650 up there to ride some local rides, but I have no desire to ride my KLR to Alaska. And when I rode my K1200LT to Alaska in 2019, I really didn’t want to take it to Deadhorse or any of the other places on long dirt roads. I may have to drive my truck to Alaska towing my KLR and spend a month just taking local rides from Fairbanks.

Love it all, especially the travel but I definitely want to see the new riding gear video. Great video as always.

I have watched a few of your videos over the last week or so, just found it while watching some others. For me... I enjoy travel videos, but more than just the trip. I enjoy learning about the preparation! I enjoy the reviews of products, being a big KLIM fan, I understand "You get what you pay for." And with riding, we all become philosophical. I like hearing about other people and their ideas.
I will be spending some time watching more of your videos. But, from what I have seen, I love them all.

Discovered your channel in '23, enjoying it immensely! I like the travel videos best, including planning, because they're things I do and enjoy learning more. Also enjoy the philosophy ones and unique gear reviews as a change of pace. No need for motorcycle reviews or common products like Insta 360, as they already exist elsewhere. Your trips and how you travel are uniquely you.

Great reflection video Craig. I enjoy the travel video, the philosophy talks and the bike/gear reviews. I bet you could make a fun video out of washing the bike, doing maintenance tasks... Or even just raking the damn leaves 😂

  • @Trashmanbb
    @Trashmanbb 8 місяців тому

Feedback Time Craig! A few things I would enjoy…. More details on your Triumph as it was a bike I was looking at. On your trips maybe a bit more time talking to the people you meet? It’s probably my favorite part of travel meeting other people, and hearing their stories. At the meetings you go to that would be especially interesting as they share your (my) interests.
Loved the philosophy talks, some of which I already do and some I’m going to try to do. Overall, I love your positive attitude. Of course you’ll get negative comments on anything you do, the nature of us humans, but that needs to be water off a a ducks back.
Thank you for the channel and all the effort you put into it, it’s inspired me and now that I’m officially retired it’s time to hit the road.

Hope you make it to HU Virginia this yr. My wife and I will be riding our bikes up this yr. Would be great to chat about Alaska. I kind of agree with you on your comment about Deadhorse. It's different but so many other places to see in Alaska! Maybe even incorporating a ferry trip while you're there. I really need to get around to dropping you an email. On another note, I enjoy the way your channel is now. It's more to putting it together than many realize. Keep up the good work and stay safe! We aren't getting any younger! UG!

Like you, I make a point of staying in good condition, something I’ve done most of my life. Keep up the great videos, I ride a GS so as an adventure tourer like you, I enjoy your travels and look forward to enjoying retirement as you seem to.

Life lesson number one you can’t please everybody so don’t try just be yourself. Life is about the people the universe puts into your life that’s living .so meet more people that have your vibe only you know those type of people. I don’t know why people hate on others i will never get it! We are all here for a reason . Stay true to your values. All just my opinion Craig looks like your 2024 is jammed packed with living!!

Craig, I really enjoyed reading your post, and agree that travel is a great way to enjoy the spoils of retirement. When I retire in late April , as you know, I am doing just that. I liked how you and Kathy met each other in different places , and then she went home to return later on. That's our plan as well , though my wife is coming to meet me in the " four corners. She plans on being there for Washington, Main, KeyWest, and possibly Southern California. This dream is becoming a reality, and I can't wait to see it come to fruition. Have a safe winter Craig, and take care.

I agree-what you are doing is unique. I subscribe to over 50 you tube producers. Most are motorcycle, or local travel. If I'm not interested in where they are riding I may lose interest. If they are always testing a new bike I may lose interest. The philosophy you share I find interesting because we are in the same age group, and are both retired. I don't do hotels (yet) because I want to keep costs down- and tent camping makes the trip more of an adventure.

I agree that offshoring to China is completely America’s fault and we are increasingly paying the price for it with shortages and substandard products, but they are cheap. I personally strive to avoid Chinese products when able, but the reality is that often we simply have no alternatives. I believe that Peter Zeihan is correct that we are going to pay an increasingly heavy price for our dependence on China and reshoring is going to be expensive and time consuming.

Personally, I don't feel like separating philosophy from riding is an easy thing to do. So many people, myself included, point to their tie riding as time to think and examine your life. I appreciate the variety you've done this past year and look forward to what's to come.

Keep doing what you are doing. I enjoy the variety of content. Just curious about the Klim gear you are replacing, I understand it is aging, did the waterproof revitalization fall short? Sometimes I just want/need something different. I bought my Klim Badlands jacket in 2017 and have 47000 motorcycle miles on it, zipper replaced under warranty. No other issues. Most of all Thank You for sharing with us.

This comment won't help you with any new direction because I have been liking all the different things you are doing! I would get bored with only one focus but really love your delivery and style. I would also like the odd "here's something to practice as you go" segments. Hi, just an alternate opinion regarding China. You stated that we gave them... I was an electrical engineer in the 90's and I have two short situations I want to share with you. I'll keep it short. I personally was contacted by a Chinese company and offered all sorts of things that a young man might enjoy if I would fly over with schematics of our product. Second example, we hired a Chinese engineer, short story, the FBI raided his cubicle and arrested him. He was collecting technical "information" from other's and sending it back to China. He was kind of a point person for others who were stealing technology. Not trying to change your mind really, but give you some facts that I personally whitnessed.

I know this kind of thing happens, but by and large we have chosen to outsource our manufacturing. KTM is moving more to China, Yamaha is working with CF Moto as well. Most of it is consumer and profit driven.

What about doing a retirement video? What you expected compared to how it is, the transition, income changes, expense changes, that sort of thing. Lol, I watch them all anyway so does not matter to me ;)
You have to ride Arizona, a month would cover it nicely and a September would be a great time to ride it. Did you ever do the video on the boots? I don't recall seeing it. Do the videos that make you happy.

I‘ve been following your channel for a while now and I like most all of your videos. Not much into bike reviews though (from any content creators) but that’s just me. I’m more of a bagger guy.
    Regarding places to travel:
I stumbled across Homer, Alaska on Google Earth. Looks like a great place to spend a day or two and the roads around there look terrific.
We live in Arizona. Here is a great loop with some fun things worth seeing/doing…
Start your trip at Lake Havasu on the Colorado River and go clockwise.
Take the Oatman Highway through Oatman then onto Kingman via the Sidewinder. Check out the rest of these on your loop around the state…
    The Grand Canyon
    Hoover Dam
    Page (Lake Powell)
    Meteor Crater
    Winslow (Standin’ on the Corner)
    Monument Valley
    Canyon de Chelly
The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest
The Coronado Trail (Rt. 191) (so much fun on a motorcycle) Alpine to Morenci
Rt. 180 which is actually in New Mexico as runs parallel to Rt 191 It’s also a great motorcycle ride.
Head southwest to Payson on Rt. 260.
Take 87 to 188 past Lake Roosevelt and the Roosevelt Dam then onto Globe.
Take 60 and I10 to Phoenix
Stop at Gilbert if you want to stop and say “hi”. We’d love to meet you
See The Fire Museum, Heard Museum and Botanical Gardens in Phoenix,
    The Air Museum in Tucson
    Chiracaua National Monument
    Tombstone
    Bisbee
Round Table Pizza in Yuma (yes, we drove there just for the pizza)
Back to Flagstaff from Phoenix via Rt 89A which includes Yarnell Hill, Prescott, Jerome, Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona.
Well, whatever you do, ride safe and have fun.

Outstanding segment as usual. You are very good conversationally with the camera. I still struggle with that at times on my channel. I have a love/hate relationship with my Insta360 X3. Love the shots I get but hate the editing process. I do all of mine on the phone app so it limits it to 1080P. Just a suggestion, but if you haven't visited yet you should try Montana. So many epic rides to include Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph's highway. Just make sure you check the weather on the mountain, even in August. 🤣I hit a blustery snow storm when I did it. Very scary indeed. Have a good year bro.
