Took my SFAR 16" to the range today for the first time. I only shot 60 rounds as that was the only ammo I had with me, but it was mixed PMC 7.62x51 and some old .308 hunting ammo I had laying around. Anyhow, it functioned flawlessly, with no malfunctions with both types of ammunition. Gas setting was left on 3 and no suppressor. I threw a 3.5x Trijicon on it and it was pretty much dead on target out of the box. A few clicks to the right and it was good to go! Nice rifle, I think it is a keeper!
@YouKnow Nothing I did, it was just like taking down a regular AR. I remember there being maybe something slightly different with the BCG, but it has been a few weeks so I could be wrong. It seems well made!
My bet? Rogue is under gassed. I had a 308 that drove me crazy with every type of failure you can imagine. I started troubleshooting and the more failures I had the more pissed off and determined I got. Spent probably $1000 on changing parts and buying ammo. So it went: Change a part and try 10 types of ammo, Change another part and try 10 types/grades/weights ammo - Over and Over and Over - Range Trip after Range Trip. Then got Really mad and put the damn thing in the closet for a month. Long story short - One day it just came to me…….Gas Port Too Small!! Returned to the shop where I bought the barrel and called the manufacturer. Sure As Shit! Gas port was .05” too small from their spec. They admitted some barrels got through QC like that and offered to pay the $35 the gun smith quoted to open it up. He drilled that sucker .08” larger and I put a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block on. Now runs like a top. Done. (Happy Face Here)
This is really bad for ruger's new 308 rifle this is the second channel I seen that had multiple problems they couldn't get through a box of ammunition if their life depended on it 😳😳😳😳🤔😳😳 Do a l review on the diamondback with the 20 inch barre 308l that's what I'm looking to buy !!!
Funny you said that 3 months ago because to my knowledge, Ruger just started putting .05 bigger gas blocks on the SFAR to remedy the cycling issues some people have.
@lehisilver1191 did you watch the video? This review his Ruger ran flawless, it was the POF Rogue that gave him issues. I have a Ruger 556 MPR 18" and its been 100% reliable for the 5 years I've had it.
600+rds through my SFAR so far... only issues I had were with new PMags. Fixed them and it's been flawless! Bcg and barrel still looks brand new! Thx for sharing your experience! Subbed!
@@frankievassallo552 happy to help! Unfortunately there are horror stories on both sides but a lot more on the POF side across multiple models they make.
Love my SFAR, got about 500 rounds through it so far. Had about 12 misfeeds with it. But I have changed some stuff on it. It's running good now. Not suppressed yet, but will eventually. The price was definitely a positive.
@IHateUTubeAds I did change the gas block to a non adjustable one, only cause I changed the handguard. The original adjustable gas block wouldn't fit with it. I also changed the buffer to an H2. I also changed the trigger to a Blackout Defense AR15 3.0lb Zero Reset trigger. Also changed the muzzle brake to a Surefire Warcomp Flash Hider.
@@dodgeboy90501 I believe they did a recall on their adjustable gas blocks and are now sending out new ones if you have an sfar with the older one and ask for a new one.
@Aeis 300 Yes, I did hear about that. Like stated in my previous reply, I changed my gas block cause of the handguard I had purchased. I might still inquire about the replacement gas block, though. Thanks.
Your brass ejection seems to be pretty sluggish. I would be checking the ejector, ejector spring, extractor, extractor spring, and extractor geometry. If you have adjustable gas, I’d start by turning it down until your bolt won’t lock to the rear, then adjusting it up until it will, give it a small amount more gas from there.
When my radial delay AR-9 had stovepipes and uneven ejection patterns, I did exactly that. I replaced the ejector and extractor springs. I noticed that the extractor spring had been pushed down to about 3/4 normal size! Since I did that, it's been 100% reliable.
Great video. I hope POF will send you a new one. I had the same problems with a RUGER SFAR 308 and sent it to the RUGER factory three times. On the third time RUGER sent me a new gun. Now everything is running 100% fine with my RUGER SFAR. Note: I can not get the tight groups with the RUGER that I got with my ROCKRIVER AR10 308. The SFAR shoots good Hornady ammunition within two minute groups while the ROCKRIVER 308 shot groups under an inch all day. Now the RUGER is very lightweight and the ROCKRIVER was a beast to carry around hunting elk. Kent / Montana
Glad I could help! The SFAR is an awesome gun. You will enjoy it. Call GNXAlabama.net and they will provide you a Revive Outdoors discount if you’d like.
First, you should show us shooting with no can. then which can are you using? Are you using the gas regulation correctly because I have the rogue and then nothing freaking comes close to it and quality you guys talking about your you’re saying it because that’s what you got . If you say it cost too much Saint it’s not in my budget. I’m not gonna spend that much. That’s fine, but don’t say it’s just as good when it’s not.
A "stovepipe" 7:17 on an AR is because the bolt is moving too fast before the brass clears, it slams shut on the spent brass before ejection. Try slowing the bolt carrier down by adding some heavier Tungsten buffer weights (about $28 off Amazon last I found) one at a time until it behaves. The buffer is held together by a single roll pin, just make sure and use a "ROLL PIN punch" so you don't _mutilate_ it! That, or use a better ejector spring (can literally even "stretch" the ejector spring out a bit to get more tension reliably) or even ADD a Viton rubber doughnut (Midway for like $3, they're Orange colored usually). Could also simply be a shit ejector claw. I mean, it is a "Point Of Failure" rifle...
I feel your frustration since I have experienced the same with other ARs with different calibers. I've been thinking of buying the SFAR for a while and I have been watching quite a few reviews with a mixed bag of pros and cons. Some rave about the SFAR while others have experienced a lot of problems with double feeding and gas regulation where they had to leave it at three in spite of shooting quite a few rounds where setting 2 should be the ideal for less recoil. Looks like your SFAR is one of the good ones. Really enjoyed your video and appreciate your comments.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like you have a good running SFAR. You're lucky! My buddy bought one and it's had the same issues as your Rogue. Feeding and extraction issues. But, I've heard quite a few others have experienced this, and have sent theirs in to get fixed with no issues afterwards. Lucky you don't have to. I don't have the POF Rogue, but I do have the POF Revolution. Boy... let me tell you how upset I was... In my experience, I've sent my gun in twice as well. It had extraction and feeding issues. I've noticed that the 20 round PMAG it came with always has a feeding issue. So I no longer use it. The 10 and 25 round mags seem to work much better with my Revolution. So far no issues with them. As of now, my gun no longer has any issues (knock on wood). The last issue I had with it was the safety. I took on an elk hunt last year, and after every shot, the safety turned back on. So I had to turn the safety off after every shot. I've tried replicating the issue but it no longer does it. Since then, I've been comparing my Revolution to my buddy's SFAR, and I like my revolution just a little better. But.... for the price???? I would have gone with the SFAR if it would have came out before I purchased my POF. Hope your Rogue fixes itself. I can understand your frustration as I expected a lot more out of the "Bentley" as well.
First video of yours that actually came up in my recommendations. Long story short, I've been looking at the POF because of how light they are, but I hadn't bought one and just window shopped for about a year. Ruger comes out with the SFAR and it's been nothing but good news from them and for half, sometimes a third the price of the POF. Seems like I dodged a bullet with spending the money on a POF. First heard stories of their .22lr rifle running like shit and now this? Thank you for the video, I'll be getting the SFAR 16" as my next AR-10.
I think the POF is more of a wide spread issue… Mainly in design… SFAR is a brand new highly sought after firearm that was/is being pumped out in record time… Most of what I’ve seen people having problems with the Ruger turns out to be ammo issue, mag issue or gas valve not on proper setting… Best part is, Ruger is well known for standing behind their product… Haven't even shot mine yet. Hopefully it’s ok… nice video… 👍
My SFAR went back twice to Ruger...gas issues then a bolt issue...but Ruger stood behnd it, turned it around really quick and now it shoots flawlessly.. I understand that frustration...I had it at first with my SFAR....but Ruger took care of it and i'm happy guy !
i was going to buy the ruger sfar, but the comments boards all over the places are citing gas block and other issues on the chambering fowling the brass etc, i come across the pof 13.75, look at the dual ejection push pull system and with a few minimum criticisms across most every video i can find, most can live with
Just found this video today. I bought my SFAR last year and haven't made it to the range yet 😕 I bought 1K rounds of PMC 147 grain X-Tac ammo. What ammo have you used and how were the results ? Thanks 👍
I have a POF P308 and it has never had a single malfunction with any bullet if put threw it also runs extremely smooth compared to other ar style rifles I've fired. That said I wish it was lighter guess you can't have everything
I've got around 650 rounds through my sfar. After swapping the gas block and clearancing the inside of the hand gaurd, it's been reliable and sub moa. Watching the ejection on the POF, it's inconsistent. It went from lazily flopping the brass out to flinging it then back to flopping. Extractor? extractor spring? ejector binding? Hows the recoil cycle feel? Maybe something in the buffer and carrier is binding?
I have a POF Revolution DI and I just sent it in for the second time for warranty work. The first time I sent it in they put a new extractor and ejector in it and told me it was running fine now and sent it back to me. I took it out and it was having similar issues. Failure to eject. Stove pipes. Weak ejections. Double feed. I was so frustrated. It’s like they didn’t even test fire it before sending it back to me. I really hope they fix the issue this time. I wish I saw your video before I purchased mine.
Sorry to hear that. Someone told me yesterday they sent one back due to an issue with the barrel. After 8 months they sent it back and didn’t even touch the gun.
@@reviveoutdoors4him I got my POF back from warranty work. They replaced the barrel, gas block, bolt, and buffer. I took it to the range and put about 100 rounds through it. It runs a lot better now. I didn’t have any issues with it. I’m glad they put more effort into getting it to work this time.
I am in the market for my first AR 308. I have watched many videos on the SFAR and I am 90% leaning towards getting one. My question is; if you had to to do again would you get a 16 or 20-inch barrel? My understanding is the longer the barrel (within reason) the more accurate the rifle will perform. Thoughts???
@@reviveoutdoors4him I have a 300 series S-Sandman that is being held hostage till the tax stamp (purchased in September) is approved, so eventually, I would like to run it suppressed. Were you just looking to keep the length down or does a suppressed 20-inch barrel perform differently than a 16-inch suppressed barrel?
Adding more barrel adds length and weight, and after I did some investigation, I decided 16" was ideal for all my .308 rifles. For something specialized for long range use, it would be natural to want to squeeze as much accuracy and distance as possible from a rifle, but for normal hunting, defense, or SHTF purposes, 16" is rather an ideal length.
It’s hard to tell really, but with the POF, it looked like the casings were ejecting at the 1:00 or 2:00 positions. Meaning it’s under gassed. Just a guess.
Very, very pleased with my SFAR 16" so far. Only 80 rounds through it though. So nothing conclusive. I expect it will run reliably and accurately. Thank you.
@@FitMagic I started with #3 until about 220 rounds. I have run 75+ rounds of M80, 308 factory and a few 308 near max handloads on setting #2. The only hiccup I have experienced was a failure to lock open 1 time with M80. Excellent accuracy with everything so far out to 230 yards.
@@guardianminifarm8005 I am very happy to hear that it is working fine on gas setting 2! Looks like you did your break in period on gas setting 3 and "paid your dues" with the higher recoil and now can reap the full benefits with minimal recoil at the factory recommended setting for everyday shooting!
I also have the SFAR 16" and the Rogue. I have about 500 rds on Rogue now and I bought the SFAR because of the all the problems with the Rogue. I did finally get the Rogue to behave with a Tubbs flat wire 308 buffer spring and H2 buffer. Rogue also has dictator gas block. Also, both of mine are always suppressed.
Thanks for this response. My SFAR has been 100% with about 300 rounds (not suppressed). However my Ruger SR762 has the exact same intermittent problem as the Rogue shown in this video. I like SR762 (although it's heavy), so I think it's time to try spring buffer changes on the SR762 like you did with your Rogue.
I wanted to add, I have done the same mods to both the SFAR and the Rogue - Tubbs flat wire 308 spring and H2 buffer. These mods helped both guns run very reliably. Interestingly, both guns also suffer the same issue with the adjustable gas block being waay to close to the hand guard. I will probably change out the gas blocks for something low profile like an SA or Odin works.
I recently purchased an SFAR. I've noticed shooting 7.62 compared to the .308, that it has a lot less pressure and the ejection pattern is at 5:30. .308 at the same setting which I have left on 3 will eject at 2:30 and 3. With my experience with the SFAR, id say 7.62 would be good for plinking, but if you want to hunt with it and want reliability, use .308. The extractor is also not very strong, thinking of putting an O ring under it Had to knock out a casing and it wasn't even in there that tight. Only happened once. My sample shoots MOA for me. As for the POF, I'm a little disappointed that your sample is falling short of the SFAR, considering it costs twice as much.
@@reviveoutdoors4him 147 on the 7.62, then I went heavier than whats recommended on the length and twist, I used 180 .308. No issues with the 180. Occasional short stroke on the 7.62, but as I shot more rounds it worked itself out.
My only real concern with the SFAR is the lugs shearing off of the bolt (like the 6.5s) this my first rifle and i love it but time will tell how these rifles hold up, and i know ruger is pretty good at making issues that arise right for the people that do own them.
I have that same Rogue and have run 100's of rounds without a single ejection issue. Bought a couple of cases of PMC 147 grain so not super high end stuff either. Have you run it without the suppressor? Curious if that might change the sluggish ejection.
@@reviveoutdoors4him I assume with the same results? I will keep an eye on mine. Now I have a Springfield Armory Saint/Victor in 308 that cycles fine but the accuracy is trash with the same ammunition. POF, so far, has been comparable to my Seekins, although chambered in a different caliber.
As an owner of both, the POF Rogue does not come with an adjustable gas block, so that appears to be added as an extra. It is a little overgassed from the factory, but that helps it run a wide variety of ammo types. It looks like the POF is a little undergassed, causing the FTE. If the gas block is dialed in for one ammo type, another type of ammo may have issues. It's also subject to temperature variations if the gas is dialed into one temperature and ammo. The Rogue 16 inch is a very good lightweight rifle if it's not messed with from the factory. I would say the SFAR is better because it's cheaper and has an adjustable gas block. The SFAR is a little heavier, so that's also a tradeoff. I do like that the SFAR has more barrel options as well.
I've got an OG rogue and zero issues in five years. It's been great. The SFAR I tested I wouldn't use as a paperweight. Both have QC issues and people will always get mixed results.
I had a rouge when they first came out and was not a fan. Would not shoot a group for sheet. Barrel was exhaust pipe hot after a few groups and felt like the whole thing was flexing under recoil. The revo is a much better option. Might weigh a little more but it's a welcomed added weight for a much more accurate and comfortable rifle. And also the better comparison to the ruger
I have a POF rogue that had FTF/FTE, double feeds. Mine was very ammo specific it was annoying. Only liked expensive heavy ammo. Overall same issue with all other ammo. So i open the gas port - still have the original gas block. (0.078 ish, it should be opened up to 0.081 but it was the only drill bit i have left) Now it kicks a little more but it runs much better. Still have some issues with steel case (thus 0.081) and when its smoking hot and 100+ outside. That day all mine and my dads guns had issues with spent cases sticking in the barrel.
What is it about steel case ammo that gives some guns trouble? I bought a 20" SFAR from my brother and it came with 100 rounds of Hornady critical defense steel case ammo. The gun had only had a few rounds put through it when my brother sold it to me because he needed emergency cash quick. When I went out to shoot it the first time I had two failure to feed problems in a 20rd magazine. Then I got some Winchester FMJ and the thing ran like a top. Was able to turn the gas down to setting 2 after a few mags and it's still great. I should probably try those Hornady steel case rounds again just to see if it'll still jam with them. But yeah I love my SFAR. Kinda wish I had a 16" but this 20" in my best shooting, most accurate AR I own. I also have a 14.5" JAKL and I'm way more accurate with the SFAR. JAKL is a blast though, love it.
This is the theme with POF after Frank passed away...prior to that the Revolution and 308 guns were known for running anything you could find...I have a Revolution 308 piston 14.5 P&W I had to RMA with my YHM Resonator R2 due to poor hest treating and the headspace being out of spec causing every failure imaginable... They replaced the barrel and bolt under warranty and I will say the gun ran much better unsuppressed and they say they added a custom bleed off port to make it run with my suppressor...the gun was still so overgassed with the can on I couldn't get thru more than 2-5 shots without a feeding issue or failure... POF customer service sucks....it takes 2-3 emails to get a halfway straight answer and half the time they just flat out ignore you I purchased the springco orange extra power spring with a kyntec hydraulic buffer...this certainly helped and ejection was consistent without the can running PMC X-tac 147gr and Norma Tactical 147gr 2 plinking rounds that are decently affordable...(If you try any cheap ammo or remanufactured or used brass it'll either get jammed in the chamber or it'll just rip the rim right off the casing. It only runs good with brand new and expensive ammo like Gorilla, Hornady, or Federal GMM) with the hydraulic buffer I still can't get thru a full mag suppressed without a failure and the bolt never locks back on an empty mag Now moving to the heavybuffers.com XH 8.5oz buffer with it'd own spring to test that out....I wish I'd have just purchased a LWRC REPR like I'd originally planned...for the hundreds I've spent trying to get this POS POF to run I'd have had a brand new piston 308 that ran right from the jump without RMA or having to test so many different types of ammo..,.smdh
I've had one for a few years. I wonder if you're right. Maybe they don't have the same quality after Frank passed. So far mine has been fine. I've shot a variety of ammo including steel case without any problem.
@@markanderson9857 yea it's gotta be something... There's no way your able to enjoy shooting a variety of ammo and mine will either fail to extract, short stroke, stove pipe box to box of the same exact stuff... It was reliable last month with PMC X-tac 147gr 308 and Norma Tactical 147gr 308, it also did great with Gorilla 168gr SMK last week. But this week, pm gets stuck in the damn chamber every other round and the Gorilla won't even feed and I mean stuck on the feed ramp every single time... I was able to solve most of the cycling issues with just swapping out the OEM POF buffer with the 8.5oz buffer, recoil is much softer and ejection is beautiful and consistent... When the next round doesn't get stuck on the feed ramp that is or it has a failure to eject.. Last time I was able to get a response from POF they said it's the ammo makers fault... I'm gonna sell this fucking pain in the ass and get an LWRC REPR MKII 308...i haven't heard of any major issues with that platform and it's chambered to run both 7.62x51 NATO and 308 Winchester
I liked this vid. I have around 160 rounds of .308 through my SFAR. ZERO malfunctions on gas setting 3. 2 not so much. About every third round is failure to feed. Switch back to 3 & dumps the mag no problem. I think mines close on 2 just gonna keep shooting it. Hopefully it starts working reliable on 2 or im gonna be very disappointed!
Just watched the intro, WTF .308 hunting coyotes? Depending on the coyote a head shot with .22 does the trick, Yes I too agree it's a versatile round, yet may waste some prime meat if not well placed for deer and possibe large hole on other critters, just my thoughts , now back to the Video. Also thank you for the short intro without all the fancy hoopty doopty un needed graphics,. Lastly, whats up with everyone shooting 50 or 100 meters. The 308 will reach out effectively at 700 no problem, at least shoot 300 meters, just to see what it will do! Again great Video!!! Semper Fi
Thanks for the comment! I like a .308 because I have used it for 20+ yrs lol that’s why. This is just the range I had close access to. All my further distance ranges are an hour+ away unfortunately. Thanks again for watching and please subscribe and chime in any time!
So I bought a $2k gun with the wrong recoil spring from the factory? What a joke. Also, I replaced the spring and it still had issues. My specific gun was junk
@reviveoutdoors4him yep, several had the issue unfortunately, and the dummies at PoF missed it to. Did you make sure it was the correct custom length? It's not standard to any other AR style. Mine runs perfectly flawless.
@reviveoutdoors4him it's really saddening that PoF has fallen as much as it has the past few years. Mine is a good one, fortunately, but many it seems are not so fortunate.
I am really sorry that you sent that POF back to the factory twice. I think you have 100% right to demand a new rifle if it isn't fixed the next time you send it back
I will never buy another POF (pos) again. I bought a piston revolution in .308 for $2700. The accuracy was 4-6 inches at 100 yards with federal gold medal match. They had failed to tighten the screws on the handguard where it overlaps the upper receiver. It turned into a 2 inch rifle after they worked on it. Which still sucks for $2700. I got rid of it at a loss. I hope POF goes bankrupt and the management dies of cancer. A bunch of lying thieves.
The expended round right before the last on the Ruger barely made it out of the ejection port. The POF may have just been more sensitive to what possibly looks like inconsistent ammunition? Obviously don't know the history of either rifle. Just going by what I saw.
I could write a novel on everything we tried with the POF Rogue and still forget something. We tried several different brands of ammo among other things
I just put a sfar 20 on layaway... but also I have a pof p308 16in and my god it's a flawless and very accurate rifle. Comparability your extractions look weak compared to mine maybe start with the extractor claw and spring worth a shot keep us updated I've wanted a new lighter pof but on edge now lol
That’s not a double feed, it’s a failure to eject and as was mentioned, I’d check the ejector spring. Also, not sure what mag, but I’ve had bad luck with Magpul, much better with Lancer and my issues were exactly like that. It seems the Magpul drag on the bolt. Just a couple things to try but I would have thought the ejector issue. What does the spent brass look like?
I only purchased the renegade plus from pof and so far after 1000 rounds it is very accurate and no issues at all with it but ive seen many videos about these in this video having issues and otherproducts ill only buy the renegade plus from them thats all
Lightweight but how is the recoil affecting the follow-up shot? Even with that big brake there is still significant muzzle rise. Many reviews on the SFAR and leaking gas blocks, accuracy issues and feeding issues are common. Sure Ruger has great customer service but wouldn't it be better if Ruger had a better assembly process and better QC program to catch these issues before they hit the market? For the price it's an option but its ammo sensitive, mag sensitive and Ruger does not provide a 1 MOA guarantee.
I think your casing is getting partially stuck in the chamber due to thier tight tolerances or atleast it is requiring more force to get it out delaying the action and not ejecting..I talked to POF and they told me to run steel case ammo for the break-in period specifically wolf polyformance. And the reason is due to the metals they use are harder than others so brass cased ammo will not break it in due to the softness of brass but steel case will loosen up the tight chamber tolerences...once that is accomplished all ammo should function as expected.
Same thing happened to my DPMS LR308 Recon. Kept failing to eject and/or failing to feed, with stovepipe jams. Manufacturer couldnt fix... Got rid of that POS.
I feel your pain for that kind of money i expect it to work too. I have a 12.5 rogue with about 1300 through it without a single hiccup. All has been unsuppressed ao far.
The muzzle break is my choice. Dont want the hoops to jump through or worry about suppressed n suppressors. The break takes half vut feels like all the recoil out. Great gun.
can't believe they sent it back to you twice without really putting enough brass through it to fix the darn thing! horrible service!! what's the name of that sweet tripod?
The tripod in this video is the BogPod Death Grip, but I am actually heading to the range to record a video on the best tripod I have ever seen. It’s called the Warrior Tripod. If you use the code “revive” at checkout after adding an ARCA plate, hat and shirt it will provide those 3 items for free when buying a tripod. warriortripods.com/
You've got to be kidding. I own the Rogue and have checked out the SFAR. The SFAR is poor quality. The POF is flawless . It is a bit more expensive, but is way worth it. There is no comparison
Isnt 308 a bit overkill for a fox or cyotte?. The only issue ive had with my SFAR sofar is the ejector seems to be 'biting' into the back of the brass casings. Not sure if its a ammo brand thing, or an ejector thing.... Anyone have any ideas on that? is it something i should worry about? (just as an added bit, only have about 20 rounds through it so far. was purely sighting it in while in the process of putting rounds through it for break-in.)
Yes, it is a bit overkill, but I wanted to start with a do it all rifle and then expand from there as I acquired more funds. Have you adjusted the gas setting? It has 3 selections, maybe changing it a notch would help?
@@reviveoutdoors4him not yet (on the gas settings), was planning on leaving it on 3 for the first 40 or so shots, then plan to change it down to the more 'normal' 2 (for a break-in cycle.)
Sadly it looks like POF went downhill after Frank passed away. I believe Rogue prob needs some design/manufacturing improvement, but 2020 happened. I would suggest staying with the Revolution if you are getting 308 from POF. Especially it seems now that SFAR pretty much killed Rogue. Their Renegade+ is also a feature-rich and accurate 5.56 platform.
BTW, your Rogue looked to be super overpassed. Forgive me if I missed it, but you gotta find a way to tune down the gas or slow the carrier speed down. I would try a heavy(H4?) buffer and maybe contact POF to warranty it.
@@JohnZ556 we tried what you suggested and still didnt work. We also trued every gas setting while suppressed and unsuppressed I have friends that have the revolution and they have had similar issues to my rogue
With any predator, our goal is to help maintain a healthy balance of predator vs prey. We don’t always remove bobcats unless the predator population outweighs the prey significantly. One 100 acre parcel we help manage had an overpopulation of predators. In 2 months, we removed 30+ coyotes and 3 bobcats. Since then, we have seen the fawn drop (deer) and poult hatch (turkey) improve significantly over the last 3 years. It’s always a calculated decision based off each properties needs.
That crazy, just goes to show you that you can get a good gun or a bad gun and you never know which you will get until you fire it. I’ve never had any issues with my POF Rogue personally but I’ve seen others that have. Now I don’t have the dictator gas block on mine I have a aero precision adjustable gas block so maybe it has something to do with that? Idk though I’m not a gunsmith or a professional by any means. Sorry you’re having such a bad experience out of what should be a great rifle.
Kynshot rb5000hp is the fix for that Rogue. Most roque users have had same problem. Kynshot is the sure sure fix and reduces recoil 30% also which is a blessing for a 5.9lb 308. Luv your rogue, get the Kynshot. Tell the boys at POF to add them and just increase rogue price to cover it.
I don't know anything pof so can't comment on them. But im not surprised about the ruger running flawlessly. I mean ruger had been manufacturing firearms for 86 years so they have a bit more experience. Plus if you do have a problem with a ruger they will 💯 make it right or you will get another gun.

I want to buy an AR-10. I have been looking at Ruger, but there are a lot of videos of the rifle not cycling correctly. I want an accurate and dependable AR-10. I have to say that about 20-30% of the videos have had problems. The rest of the videos have been positive. I think it might be the break-in time or gas block malfunction.
It could possibly be a lack of knowing there are 3 gas block settings on the gun and what setting you are suppose to run until it is broken in. Either way, I love the SFAR and have enjoyed it with 500* rounds through it now.
@reviveoutdoors4him I am very glad to hear you love your Ruger. I forgot one key point in my last post, price. I love the fact that Ruger made it more affordable. I know there are other AR-10s that perform well, but I don't want to sell a kidney to afford it.
I have the 20" SFAR and love it. But you do have to get the gas setting right for the ammo. One channel I watched, which you probably saw too, said Ruger told him to use setting 3 for 7.62x51 ammo and setting 2 for .308 ammo. I have been using Federal American Eagle .308 and it seems to need setting 3 as well. Watched someone else shoot it and it was throwing brass almost straight back showing it was under gassed. It then started double feeding after about 25 rounds. With the hunting ammo, which seems to be hotter than the American Eagle, it functions well on setting 2. As for mods, I have put a PSA 3.5lb match trigger, Radian Raptor ambi-charging handle, Leupold 4.5x-14x VX3 scope and a Vickers sling. Oh, and I ditched the muzzle brake and put on an A2 style flash hider. So far I love my SFAR and have made it into my deer hunting rifle. Can't wait to get out this fall with it and see what it can do with a deer.
You could not find a good setting with 9 adjustments, it's gotta have a spring/buffer wrong weight or size. Everyone who had problems that fixed it themselves by adding a adjustable gas block and or changed H buff and springs all cheap stuff I am willing to replace or add if they make it reliable and I can have a reliable or accurate 6 pound ar10
If you know the SFAR your not supposed to run it suppressed and keep it on Gas setting 3, and put 200+ rounds through it before you can adjust to 2 and put a suppressor on it. So it's user error
@@reviveoutdoors4him yes it is of it's loud enough. And shooting supersonics is. It doesn't matter if it hurts or not. There are tables and charts of exposure length and dB levels which are proven to cause damage to hearing. And even if it would not feel bad right now. It may cause a tinnitus later.
Just purchased an SFAR in place of a PSA. The PA10 GEN2 that i have shoots very well. Its just a tank. I am hoping the SFAR will permanently replace the PA10. Haven't put any rounds down range yet but i will in about a week.
Currently have a (much) heavier PSA PA-10, which works great for hunting as long as I'm somewhere with support to lay it on. Looking at SFAR for sure. Have handled one in stores, now I just need $ and to convince my wife I need another rifle.
The POF is a 5 position gas block. You are using wrong position I know because I did same thing. When block is in normal position with block adjustment facing 12, rotate it to 6 o'clock position. If fouled move 1 more position. Read manual before you make video brother! I own the 415 edge and revolution and both run like sewing machines! POF is by far superior to SFAR!!
Please read through all my replies of the extensive steps I took to make this gun work. It simply didn’t. I wish it would have more than anyone. Nothing worse than throwing $2k down the drain. I am happy to hear about your positive experience. Wish mine would have been.
My pod revolution was over gassed beyond belief it would blow the primers out of the casing after numerous unanswered call’s emails hell I even tried sending smoke signals in hopes of a reply the first qc guy finally contacted me and said the ammo was junk which was definitely not the case let me tell you mad wasn’t the word finally I was able to get in touch with someone who was actually a gun smith so I sent the upper back which was totally F’d after me sending no more than 20 rounds down range I easily spent more time attempting to get the live round that was seized in the chamber out without blowing my hands or face off anyways the new qc guy made it right and sent me a whole brand new upper and it was remarkably better than what I initially had but when a guy drops 3K$ on what was supposed to be my dream rifle it should’ve been spot on from the get go never again will I give them the sweat off my balls for any of their products it was a frickin nightmare I e never had buyer’s remorse on any firearm that’s in my safe until that fiasco….stay away from their 308’s though I do think their 556’s are ok….maybe but don’t really care at this point cuz the market is flooded with 556’s that work and work well and have something called customer service
I tried 5 308 ARs with silencers and none functioned. After, I asked GAP and they said don't bother trying. I asked POF and they said theirs won't work silenced. I bought an SFAR based on reviews. Five rounds fired, broke the: lower receiver, buffer tube, stock, charging handle, and my scope. Recoil was intense. The mid length gas system is unsafe in a 16" 308 AR and cannot work with a silencer. For the geniuses that will assume the setting of the gas block matters when the issue is how close it is to the chamber, I used setting 1, the most restrictive. I'm glad I didn't use setting 3, for my own safety.
@reviveoutdoors4him I think it's a QC issue with both companies. I've tested an SFAR that wouldn't run anything but have friends that have reliable ones and vise versa. The SFAR hits the mark on price while the rogue hits the mark on weight. It's really a gamble. Honestly I would say to my friends to get a good AERO if you want reliable guaranteed.
Sounds like a great day!! Everyone that’s ran ours loves it!
You clean it yet?
Done. (Happy Face Here)
Happy to hear that!

I been trying to decide on those two exact rifles for the past month watching and reading reviews and just came across this video. Thank you 🙏
@@frankievassallo552 happy to help!
Oh do tell, what were some of your changes?
I have 1 Rouge and 1 Revo DI. Just like my 5 pws with cans, adding weight to buffer solved POF issues on both, both with cans.
How much weight.? I went from. A 3 oz to 4 oz & it was “better” but not good. Switching caps on my CGS can did help but now it is louder.
Awesome! SFAR for the win. Love mine 💪🏼
I have been really impressed with it and at a great price point!
haven't had a single issue with my rouge. has been a great rifle.
Same here, just slapped a can in it too
Great video.
I have been on the fence on which one to get. I appreciate the video bud. im from Alabama
Take some gas (energy) off it too, adjust the gas down a notch.
@@watchthe1369rogue doesn't come with adjustable gas block.
Thank you for sharing! I hope you enjoy your purchase when you make it. I appreciate you commenting and being respectful
Hate to hear that!
Thanks for the honest review, I’m definitely gonna subscribe
I appreciate that! I am just a regular guy trying to help people out and have fun while doing it!
I just purchased my 16” SFAR.
I haven’t had the chance to run it, but as soon as I get the LPVO in the mail it’s off to the range! 😊
Enjoy it!
You and I are the same bro, Love the channel!! High quality, you will grow quickly!
Thank you for the kind words. I greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for the comment and enjoy the SFAR!
POF Revolution is the better buy out of the two.
Thanks for the comment! I hope you enjoy yours!
Thanks 👍
I have POF 415 edge but they made that for years. Runs like a sewing machine. But have heard of hickups with the small frame ar10 platform models
I bought the POF Revolution and having the same problem. Thx you for your review.
Hate to hear that
I have a POF P308 and it has never had a single malfunction with any bullet if put threw it also runs extremely smooth compared to other ar style rifles I've fired. That said I wish it was lighter guess you can't have everything
I have the 16” sfar, I’m swapping the hand guard for a Bcm mcmr 10 I have laying around and gonna install a rifle speed gas block
Thoughts???
I run a 16” because I have a suppressor. The 20” would be my choice if I was running it unsuppressed.
@@strat1960s I wanted to keep the length down.
My Ruger SFAR 20” runs like Singer sewing machine. Not one failure with cheap ammo, expensive ammo, reloads. 1 MOA with good ammo
It’s hard to tell really, but with the POF, it looked like the casings were ejecting at the 1:00 or 2:00 positions. Meaning it’s under gassed. Just a guess.
I have tried a lot of things to fix it and it just wasn’t happening on this gun
I’m sure you’ll figure it out.✌️
Try replacing the barrel on the POF. They do some weird shit to the chamber to "aid in extraction." That could be the problem.
I agree! Probably wrong gas port size too
I think they said break in on setting 3 then 1 or 2 depending on suppressed or not
Very, very pleased with my SFAR 16" so far. Only 80 rounds through it though. So nothing conclusive. I expect it will run reliably and accurately. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your SFAR!
What gas setting have you been using, if you don't mind me asking?
@@FitMagic I started with #3 until about 220 rounds. I have run 75+ rounds of M80, 308 factory and a few 308 near max handloads on setting #2. The only hiccup I have experienced was a failure to lock open 1 time with M80. Excellent accuracy with everything so far out to 230 yards.
@@guardianminifarm8005 I am very happy to hear that it is working fine on gas setting 2!
Thank you for sharing
@@donvannThe guys at TFBTV went with, I believe, a Aero Precision Combat hand guard. More clearance to gas block

I have that same Rogue and have run 100's of rounds without a single ejection issue. Bought a couple of cases of PMC 147 grain so not super high end stuff either. Have you run it without the suppressor? Curious if that might change the sluggish ejection.
Yes I have
@@reviveoutdoors4him I assume with the same results? I will keep an eye on mine. Now I have a Springfield Armory Saint/Victor in 308 that cycles fine but the accuracy is trash with the same ammunition. POF, so far, has been comparable to my Seekins, although chambered in a different caliber.
@@ronfranklin2153 that’s correct. Same issues
I'm guessing they don't test the rifle after replacing parts at the factory, they should test and make sure its up to standards
They claim they do but obviously not
As an owner of both, the POF Rogue does not come with an adjustable gas block, so that appears to be added as an extra.
POF all day for me!
How old is this rogue, I see they have change stuff up in the last few years at POF and the Sfar has got a new gotten a new gas block
(0.078 ish, it should be opened up to 0.081 but it was the only drill bit i have left)
Now it kicks a little more but it runs much better.
POF customer service sucks....it takes 2-3 emails to get a halfway straight answer and half the time they just flat out ignore you
I purchased the springco orange extra power spring with a kyntec hydraulic buffer...this certainly helped and ejection was consistent without the can running PMC X-tac 147gr and Norma Tactical 147gr 2 plinking rounds that are decently affordable...(If you try any cheap ammo or remanufactured or used brass it'll either get jammed in the chamber or it'll just rip the rim right off the casing. It only runs good with brand new and expensive ammo like Gorilla, Hornady, or Federal GMM)
with the hydraulic buffer I still can't get thru a full mag suppressed without a failure and the bolt never locks back on an empty mag
Now moving to the heavybuffers.com XH 8.5oz buffer with it'd own spring to test that out....I wish I'd have just purchased a LWRC REPR like I'd originally planned...for the hundreds I've spent trying to get this POS POF to run I'd have had a brand new piston 308 that ran right from the jump without RMA or having to test so many different types of ammo..,.smdh

They recommend keeping it on 3 until its broke in then moving it to 2, but break in can be a little longer on one gun to the next.

You have the wrong recoil spring in the Rogue. Another channel had the exact same issue.
@@Rogue-7.62 yes I did. I wish it would have ran good
@reviveoutdoors4him it's really saddening that PoF has fallen as much as it has the past few years.
I've had the POF Pistol length and probably over 500 rounds some suppressed and never an issue. Took a whitetail at about 150yds during pistol season
That’s great! Congrats! Wish I would have got a good one
Weird question, does the POF carrier work in the Ruger?
Not sure. I never tried it.
@@reviveoutdoors4him if you ever find out, let me know haha
That’s not a double feed, it’s a failure to eject and as was mentioned, I’d check the ejector spring. Also, not sure what mag, but I’ve had bad luck with Magpul, much better with Lancer and my issues were exactly like that. It seems the Magpul drag on the bolt. Just a couple things to try but I would have thought the ejector issue. What does the spent brass look like?
I only purchased the renegade plus from pof and so far after 1000 rounds it is very accurate and no issues at all with it but ive seen many videos about these in this video having issues and otherproducts ill only buy the renegade plus from them thats all
Thank you for sharing
6:34 That's not a double feed malfunction. It's a FTE(ject).
Thank you for clarifying! My brain was so fried dealing with this gun I didn’t the butt stock from the barrel 🤣
The muzzle break is my choice. Dont want the hoops to jump through or worry about suppressed n suppressors. The break takes half vut feels like all the recoil out. Great gun.

Thats alot of failures. Hopefully they will do more on this. Thats too much money for something to run like its lubricated with gravel
So true

Why shoot the bobcats?
Do you have the same problem with other magazines on the POF ? I had a similar issue and solved it with some new/different magazines.
Yes, unfortunately
What is the difference between the POF Revolution and Rogue?
I can’t remember right off hand, but if you read through the comments the reliability of POF after the owner passed has been hit or miss.

@@devildog8768 the price point is the best part! Thank you!

Why shoot bobcats
