    better to apply lateral to medial with every piece of tape. that way your tension on the tape helps you lift the arch which each tape placement. if you go medial to lateral, you could evert the foot causing the straps to exert a pronatory force on the foot depending on how you hold the foot, patient position, etc. this would be counter intuitive, since we are usually trying to control excess pronation with the low-dye technique.

      Yes, we were always taught to go lateral to medial. This works well for pronators and also holds the fat pad (natural cushioning) under the heel pretty well. In the video I demonstrate straight on as it is easier for patients self-taping at home, reduces the chance of the skin tension medially being an issue and many of our plantar fascia patients have forefoot valgus/plantar flexed first alignments. In summary, for most patients, I do what you suggest, but I keep the patient instructions simple to cover more of the exceptional cases so they work reasonably well for all.
