- There's only 6 days until im leaving Cairns what Ill be doing is I'm going to pickup my caravan and a roof topper tinny in the Sunshine Coast to keep filming this content for you guys!
The first stop will be Victoria, back where it all started, although then were straight back to Queensland. There's only one video left to land a barramundi before I leave.
Your videos convinced me to finally get a boat and get outdoors even more than i already do, your very inspirational and convince me to get out and do what i love doing.

Need tight drag so the hook can be set in the fishes mouth

With liveys I have my drag set but keep the bail open and let them run a bit then close and set

For catching barra, having a big sinker and more line before the hook for the live bait to move is good for live baiting as barra dont really care about sinker size and i'd go between 4/0 and 6/0 circle hooks for live baiting. I'd also try live prawns, catching them off the Esplanade beaches. ay, you getting better good luck on the big trip 😁😁

Live bait for Barra then leave the bail arm open as they sometimes do a taste test first. Watch the line and when she starts peeling off a good circle hook will grab them when you set. Have the drag on tight for the set and next thing you know, we are watching Luke catch his fist barra. 😂

Brett Pickles caught a Barra at the Cairns airport esplanade and uploaded the video to UA-cam. On a $15 tee from Kmart and an $80 rod from BCF. Great video and catch from Brett.

Hey Luke try hooking live bait through the lip , less chance of being pulled off . Another thing to factor in with the boat on the caravan roof your going to be restricted with solar , you want more panels to be over rated for battery storage

Hey man I catch a lot a Barra down south and we usually use 80lb or 100lb leader and you want to have a lot tighter drag to keep the line tight and it also to help set the hooks

Maybe when ur using live baits, don’t leave ur drag to loose otherwise the fish will run with the bait but the line will not be tight and they may not hook themselves.I dunno what’s the best way this is just what is use to catch some nice fish.Hope one day u catch ur dream Barra? Luke when using circle hooks always have about 3-6kg of drag set that way the hook goes through there mouth

Hey brother over here in the NT we find the Barra to be feeding the best on the out going tide, typically the last couple hours of the out going tide. And when it’s a bit cooler like now, fishing the river mouths close to the mangroves should produce the big girls. Good luck on ur new adventure and love watchin ya eps. 🍻

You can use light drag.Especially with a small live bait. But better to use straighter hook like KS. Its just like straylining let it run and chew on it for a few seconds longer that way the hook is more likely in its mouth when you tighten up and lift the rod tip. Obviously Baitrunner typ reels make this easier. Both different, both effective. 🐟

We catch snook here in Florida (very similar to Barramundi) with pilchards on a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook. We hook the baits through the cartilage on their nostrils or underneath toward the tail instead of middle of their back. Maybe fish on the bottom like that guy was saying try out a carolina rig

Deeral is a very good place to fish the problem is that it rains a lot and because of all of the fresh water sometimes they don’t wanna bite
Just a quick tips for you mate. Dont set drag too tight. Let it loss a little so that fish can run 👍. P.S i caught a 120cm barramundi last week on live mullet and i released it.

Hey mate hot tip fishing for barras fish an hour before the low tide and an hour after and use bigger hooks go 6/0 banana hooks or bigger

Lose drag is always better as you can adjust when required, just have a bit of resistance there
There’s a little hut out the mouth there casted this squidjies lure and seen a fish chasing it then a 61cm barra came and smashed it. My pb barra for that period of time I was stoked. If u ever go to Townsville there are so many
If you set the drag loose when your on tighten it up a bit and flick it to set the hook
You should get a rope and put it on the front of the boat. So when you launch it you can tie to so something so your boat doesn’t float away when you park you car.

When U hook a Barra keep your rod down towards the water or the will jump out and spit the hook 👍
Drag is a little to lose brother and of course I’ll be on the journey with use and when u come back let me take u out to get that Barra bro palm cove jetty at the start of Barra season we getting u 1 for sure that’s a promise
