    Lyrics
    morþcrundel
    Swefecere
    Were Broken
    Words spoken
    Heartbeat like deer feet rolling
    Were falling, deaths calling
The souls of men are in the air
No solace in the place of woe
Brothers feed now for the crow
Bones of trees stand over me
    Bones of men lie underneath
Sword has fallen from the hand
Tears have fallen from the sky
Screams of war they're in my head
    Calling out from earthen bed
After blood has ceased to flow
Into the roots that dwell below
    Every rise and every set
The sting of loss beats in my chest
Akin to wolves among the trees
Ghosts will stalk and follow me
All the things i could have done
to save the souls of those I love
Red was dancing in the fields
Burned away the black of night
Raven spoke to me in tongues
Sang to me of shades in Hel
So I walk upon the hill
Where the ancients drank their fill
With the stones I seek for peace
Inside the earth to find release
    morþcrundel
    Swefecere
    EorÞbyrgenn
    Slumere
    Tongues bleeding
    Lungs screaming
    Heartbeat like bulls stampeding
    There fallen cold autumn
the smell of leaves is in the air
I wake beneath the dappled sky
Wipe the salt out of my eyes
    Evermore i hear their cries
    Every set and every rise
    Only here beside this tomb
    Sleeping in the earthen womb
Do their faces come to me
    Whisper softly as i sleep
After the life has ceased to grow
Out of the roots that dwell below
Every thought is now of death
How to join them in the flesh
Do not follow us my dear
    Wipe away your falling tears
Pick the sword up from the ground
    Let your courage be unbound
From the chains of loss and grief
Plant the seeds and cut the wheat
Build yourself up strong and new
Find the others find the few
    Walk together through the land
Through the forest fields and sand
Find the men who took your love
Kill the creatures shed the blood
Thanks to Shane Skerratt for designing us the Sutton Hoo Dancers.

@@Evan_Bell same flavour basically the song is supposed to be Saxon going by the words at the beginning and the saxons were still full Germanic cousins to the Norse from the 400s till the late 700s till they became Christian but they still share blood as all the Germanic tribespeople came from subsequent migrations south by Nordic tribes like the vandals and goths

When I hear this song, I imagine it being sung in a Goblin's head as they pull themselves from the dirt after an adventuring party wiped out their entire village. Their filled with rage and pain and regret, but they know they can't just go charging after them or they'll die too. Sleepless nights, hearing the cries of those dead, they know they have to be courageous, but not foolish.
Find a sword. Find any survivors. Get together, rebuild, and _plan._ There will come the right time when they can get their revenge. Until then, they'll just have to bear the weight of their failure.

I was once at a bonfire where we partook of certain "substances" and danced around a bonfire to the sound of drums. It was a very captivating experience, and this song brings me back to that mindset every time.

I absolutely love the lyrics. It's not an overly complicated storyline, but every verse is so full of emotions.
I can almost see the ravaged land with the earth dyed crimson and his eyes that go from dull hopelessness to fiery hatread. Just a tiny, tiny bit more and my nostrils would burn from the sickening smell and my ears would ring from the screams drowned in blood, all of it slowly changing into the scent of wet earth and autumn and the whispering of falling leaves.

It's a classic story. Reminiscent of those of the early medieval period. The genre may been predictable and overdone to us today, but it's what our ancestors valued.

So each word, has a literal meaning, that can be used to simply describe something, but they also in context can have a more poetic way of coming across, as the word describes a more specific type of grave or sleep than how we would understand those words! Earth Burial, for instance is describing like a sacred burial mound, or a special place for the dead!
