*Alledgedly. Even as a "Fun Fact" it is based on nothing proven. Sure, anyone watching Ark, knowing it came before Alien, jumps to that conclusion. It's so similar, with the cryogenics, the human host / alien parasite body horror, the self destructing ship... but Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, writer's of 1976's Star Beast, which was later reworked as Alien, have certainly never said they had ever seen Doctor Who, let alone Ripley'd off a storyline! The Tom Baker era did not even air in North America on PBS until 1978, and Alien was already being filmed by then - was in preproduction for several years, before it's actual release date - so again, the timeline doesn't fit. Director Ridley Scott IS British though, and once upon a time, he was even slated to set design the very first Hartnell Dalek episodes (a verifiable Fun Fact for you) but left to become a director at Granada TV before getting started. Also - British actors, in Alien, British film crew, filmed at Shepperton Studios, England... So yes, he and they knew about Doctor Who as a franchise - however, neither he nor they actually wrote Alien, which went through many rewrites by various American scripters before it became the movie we know today. (Originally it was set at a human, off world, bio-weapon research base, incorporating alien pyramids, and was also the second script by Dan O'Bannon to feature an alien terrorising a crew - the first being 1974's Dark Star.) However, even with all that said, as Doctor Who fan's, we know, don't we, we just know that Alien ripped off Ark in Space?! And we're sticking to our headcanon no matter what! But nobody has yet bothered to ask bolshy little Scott directly - which seems odd to me. He's been asked about Daleks ("looks like a dustbin") and even for his thoughts on Jodie Whittaker being cast as the first female Doctor ("that's very politically correct, isn't it? Anything to keep going..." ) but no one has yet asked him directly if he robbed Doctor Who to make his influential, breakthrough, career defining, big box office, smash hit movie... Side note: A.E. Van Vogt was one writer who DID sue 20th Century Fox for plagiarism over Alien. His novel Voyage of the Space Beagle contains many similarities to events in Scott's movie. Fox settled out of court to the tune of $50,000. But amongst several plot points, one moment from the book also stands out to me as being very Ark in Space: the invading alien, which put eggs inside living human hosts, is finally tricked into a lifeboat and fired off into space... but before we cry, "inspired by Doctor Who," this time, there's just one problem: Space Beagle was written in 1950... twenty five years before Tom Baker ever set foot on Space Station Nerva. Sooo... Who copied who, again? ;)
Most people know that this season is cursed because of it’s hell during production but I think these viewing figures made up for it! Another great entry Adam! The Dad was a little upset that Genesis had lower viewing figures than some of the others as it’s his favourite story/most nostalgic but he doesn’t mind. I can safely say that I’m looking forward to the next videos in the series but am NOT looking forward to hearing Mary Whitehouse’s name crop up again
Eh... Sontaran experiment is very weak and the only particularly great story is genesis. It’s good but there’s definitely lots of classic seasons I’d say are better like 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, and 25

Pyramids of Mars (from what I thunk was part pf the following season 1975-76) was great stuff - with its Hammer Horror inspiration! It will be interesting to hear your assessment of K-9 when that time comes. Perhaps Mary Whitehouse did at least approve of K-9. I think the fourth Doctor was big enough of eccentricity and personality in his early prime to never have needed such add-on. Perhaps K-9 was there to prop up a decline?

There was a story LP of Genesis of the Daleks in the 70s or 80s. It had narration combined with audio from the broadcast.
