    What I imagine has happened is Rooney has worked with recruitment team to identify players he believes can implement the style of play he wanted and that either Birmingham can't afford them or they're not a big enough pull to attract them and given how the current squad cannot do what he wants of them, the board had to sack him with their tails firmly between their legs.
    Justice anyway for John Eustace who I hope is sunning it up on a Caribbean island right now.

    • @seanc6042
      @seanc6042 9 місяців тому +5

      Irrespective of future transfer plans Rooney failed with the current squad who previously were getting results so there’s no way the board could back him spending money. Board took a gamble didn’t work out, Rooney clearly doesn’t have it and his statement is so vague that he couldn’t point to any improvements he has made during his brief stint. Professional football is highly paid but you have show immediate results or out the door.

      You clearly don't know much about the situation. We cannot spend much this January due to Profit and Sustainability rules thanks to Harry Redknapp being allowed to spend like a kid in a sweet shop a few years ago. This summer we will be far better off, but if you really think that these players are not good enough, how did they get into 6th place in the first place? No one sane thought we would go up this year, but a top half finish was well within the clubs capabilities until Cook sacked Eustace, and then didn't get an upgrade.

      don't know much about this but if the previous manager had the team in the play offs and was sacked for a bigger status name it didn't go down well with the players and their performances dropped off, players play for the manager more than the club, jurgen klopp is an example of that. when he came in at liverpool it changed quickly

    Guardiola started with the Barcelona youth team. Conte started off as an assistant at Siena, and earned the opportunity to get a crack at the Juventus job. Ancelotti did his apprenticeship with the national team, did decent work at reggiana, and then nearly won the league with parma before getting the Juventus and Milan jobs. See where I'm going? Former big players today don't do the hard graft. The want decent jobs at either prem or championship level on a plate, without really having properly tested themselves. Rooney should really be immersing himself into coaching first. He should try and join a club as a coach, learn from more experienced coaches and managers and then apply for actual managerial jobs. Arteta also did that.

      Ultimately it does seem like Rooney's inarticulate ways make it much harder for him to succeed. Nobody can seriously doubt his footballing IQ, which is very, very high, he was a player who clearly had a picture in his mind and a real understanding of teammates. Unfortunately that doesn't always translate to being a manager. Rooney might be one of the best examples of a great player not making a good manager.

    Rooney is only 38 and has not served his time as an assistant coach and first coach before manager. He hasn’t learnt his trade. Look at the efforts that Harry Kewell has gone through over a number of years, failure as a lower level as manager, and then taken under Ange’s wing for a couple of years. Now off to Japan. Rooney needs a serious high level manager as mentor. Or a different career.

    Rooney had natural talent …in his feet. He’s never had to think about the game as his magic feet’s abilities did the talking. Talented footballers seldom make good managers as they don’t have to analyse the game It just comes naturally, Pick an industrious player that worked hard on coaching and tactics in the team and promote him. After all you are not paying the manager for his footballing skills, you’re paying him for his coaching and tactic skills.

    To sack a manager when you're in 6th place is a terrible decision, and we've seen it before.
    I agree totally with what Simon Jordan said and have been saying this since his appointment. Do I blame Rooney for the bad performances? Yes. Do I blame him for taking the job? No. Anyone managing in America would bite your hand off to manage in England when, let's be honest, he has never done anything to merit that opportunity and I guess he will never manage in England again.
    As a manager, you need to take a look at your players and work to their advantage, not your own. Even in the 1st game, you could see the players were not comfortable with what they were being asked to do. Then you have the team selection and the substitutions. If I didn't know about rooneys great footballing career, I would never have guessed he was a footballer because his knowledge of the game leaves a lot to be desired.
