On their actual music video, somebody in the comments (@madphys) had posted this comment: "For those who are interested a translation - rather an explanation. This is a Christmas or rather a winter solstice related folksong. In Latvian language Ziemassvētki literally means celebration of winter- but I will refer to this as Christmas. The utilized refrains or choruses (typical for Christmas songs) in this song are “Totari Totari” (typically found in folk songs of Vidzeme - a historical region of Latvia) and “Kaladū Kaladū” (typical for the historical region - Latgale). There is no particular meaning of these refrains. Ok the words (meaning) goes approximately like this: Come together youthful maidens Totari Totari To pour the fortune this evening Totari Totari A grandfather gave me Totari Totari A hand full of trouser buttons Totari Totari Yesterday I took a white goat Kaladū Kaladū Around the green pine grove Kaladū Kaladū Today a white snow was snowing Kaladū Kaladū Like white goldeneyes (a type of diving duck - a bird simply put) Kaladū Kaladū Oh the prolific Christmas Kaladū Kaladū Have gone down in the valley (typically the relief in Latvia has small hills and some depressions - in this context a depression would better characterized the word “Lejiņa” rather than valley) Kaladū Kaladū Let’s run old an young Kaladū Kaladū Let’s pull the celebration back on the hilltop Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body (Brighten my stature - you get the point) Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū I sowed barley - it wasn’t growing Totari Totari Hops didn’t blossom (Hop=Humulus plant, used in beer brewing) Totari Totari This year will stay for me Totari Totari With hate between me and other people Totari Totari Yesterday I took a white goat Kaladū Kaladū Around the green pine grove Kaladū Kaladū Today a white snow was snowing Kaladū Kaladū Like white goldeneyes Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū I put white and wore white Totari Totari White is my body Totari Totari Hands of my own, legs of my own Totari Totari A wise advice of my own Totari Totari"
I would also note that originally this is not one whole song, but rather numerous little folksongs with 4 lines each, that are called "dainas" and are best known from the work of 19 century writer Krišjāņis Barons who traveled the country and wrote them down
We don't need "diversity cultural enrichment", our cultures are diverse and rich beyond any other race could imagine. This song alone is the living proof.
plesse give them clip on microphones or headsets so they can use both arms. I find the handheld mics to be very distracting. These are magnificent women who should not share their stage with a darned microphone.
How interesting … Kaladū … winter solstice refrain, especially in Latgale … see also Latvian Voices sing Christmas song, 'Totari' @ ua-cam.com/video/94I41_84L5s/v-deo.html … perhaps some ideas for ensembles in Australia?
As usual, great vocals and harmony and dance. On the other hand, in my opinion, there was some unnecessary over production which detracted from the performance. I found the strobe lights annoying and distracting.
Love the music but this performance made me stop half way through. Why have this much smoke, why the flashing lights. It's not a modern pop song with tons of bass. This doesn't fit a more folklore level song at all. Again, love the music but the visuals here just completely destroy that which I come to this band for. I want to see you live but seeing that this is your live performance I'm hesitant.
You are so wrong song is about winter solstice the lights represent sun your problem is you don't understand words so you lose meaning (to help the sun return faster in Latvian winter solstice traditions)
A petition from Lithuania to send Tautumeitas to Eurovision and represent Baltic culture! ♥
Hy baby
12 points from Germany ❤

I saw you at Glastonbury, so talented and truly amazing. Please come and do some more dates in the UK
I can't explain how deeply your vocals move me. Absolute perfection.

Amazing song, beautiful culture and mesmerizing language.
And jet there are still countries, who wants to destroy us.
Magnificent. This is the first time I have seen you in other than traditional regalia, and this visual treatment suits your voices quite well.
Can't wait to hear you live! Love, Tracy, the Latvian/Washingtonian🥰
Captivating !
Could please someone translate for the rather numerous people who don't speak Latvian language ?😊

Kaladū Kaladū
Let’s run old an young
Kaladū Kaladū
Let’s pull the celebration back on the hilltop
Kaladū Kaladū
Rise sun early in the morning
Kaladū Kaladū
Polish my body (Brighten my stature - you get the point)

Kaladū Kaladū
I sowed barley - it wasn’t growing
Totari Totari
Hops didn’t blossom (Hop=Humulus plant, used in beer brewing)
Totari Totari
This year will stay for me
Totari Totari
With hate between me and other people

Kas šāds būtu pelnījis pārstāvēt Latviju eirovīzijā.
Precīzi
Es par to pašu 🥲
Atbalstu!
Wonderful performance of a beautiful song.
Cant stop watching over and over again
Nevaru sagaidīt, kad dzirdēsim jūs tiešraidē! Mīlestība, Treisija, latviete/vašingtoniete

Super.............
Masterpiece
Preciosas !! ☀️⭐🌹🇧🇷
I think the only criticism I have is the microphones - it would be visually smoother if they had used hands-free mics
You put the indo in proto-indo european. love it.
I love you so . Kisses from 🇨🇭
this hits deep
Goddamnit, I can't participate on Your concert in Vilnius. Hope to see You next time.

Exactly. Our people are the most Beautiful of peoples. No debate. We have the right to exist. No discussion.
Agreed, do not interfere with our culture (((internationalists.)))

They should just invest in headsets so they don't have to hold the microphones.
JĀ, mēs esam pagānu tauta!
Lūdzu pasakiet kāpēc nebijāt Eurovīzijā ???????
