I've had my pioneer BS22's for a month now and am extremely happy with them for $98. Also got the behringer U202 DAC....a factory refurbished unit off ebay for $22 shipped. It arrived in original box, inside sealed plastic as if brand new, with all manuals. I understand there are better dac's, but this one is super quiet, zero background noise and sounds fantastic. The pioneer bs22 speakers play nice and LOUD without distortion. I also have the pioneer FS52 towers which are awesome but haven't used them since getting the bookshelf ones which sound so great in my room. Powering them with 1988 vintage yamaha AV-50 integrated, 105 wpc @ 8 ohms, very potent amp, got it from ebay for $75 shipped, great system all together!
I still have those plus the center (C22) rocking in my HT setup after so many years. I can't have anything bigger at my apartment. The crossover implementation is what makes them so special. When "lesser" people come to my house they can't believe how those tiny little things just trounces their big Sony towers.
Rennie Ash , exactly, it's getting that symmetry correct. speaker size vs. speaker enclosure & ported, radiator, or sealed design right. once you figure all that out the next step is the cross overs ?? just like with the Micca mb42 and 42X. is a great example of crossover design.
woginator69 , dude are you on crack ? they are two different size speakers. 5 1/4 inch vs. a 4 inch, come on man. no comparison. dumb ass!!! a more honest comparison would be the Micca 42Xs, I love the Micca's but the pioneer's have a better cabnet
do u still recommend the bs22 in 2021 ? im able to get them brand new for under $100. what about compared to the Sony SSCS5 ? for the best sound (not too bright, not too weak) for $100 or less what would you choose hands down ?
Which is better Wharfedale Diamond 220 or Pioneer SP-BS22-LR? Sound quality, bass extension, mid, highs because I can get the Wharfedale less than the Pioneer. I Just want to make sure if it is worth it.
This may or may not be a stupid question but I'm a "noob" ! The pioneer bs22s are 6 ohms and the fluance is 8 ohms. If you ran these comparatively on the same amp that is 8 ohms which speaker would perform better and or more efficiently ? Or does the ohms of the speakers have nothing to do with the sound quality? By the way an excellent idea atleast in my mind would be for you to do a video explaining why speaker manufacturers make speakers in different ohm ratings considering most amps and avrs are rated at 8 ohms. And why of course do speakers come in different ohm ratings?...anyways thanks for your time and videos!
@Budget Audiophile well let me ask you this . Would it hurt my avr(denon x4400h) to run 6 ohm speakers as my rear surrounds while my other speakers (5.2.4 speaker setup) being 8 ohms at the same time??
@Budget Audiophile ok...thanks for the info!! It just sucks because I have a pair of pioneer bs22 s and I wanted to use them but unfortunately they are 6 ohms!...lol!!...so I guess this will give me an excuse to buy some klipsch bookself speakers I've been looking at!...lol!!
Hows the bass performance of the 4 inch driver vs the dayton b652 airs? Do they sound better?cnet says they sound better all over than the b652 air, thanks in advance.
Given the choice, which would you choose for a PC setup using a receiver. Would you go with 1pr of BS22 - 129.99 OR 1pr of SP-FS51-LR Floorstanding for 149.99?
Satan , those are two totally different speakers made for 2 totally different applications. the Polk you mention are a satalite speaker only and also works in a 2.1 system ONLY !!!! The Pioneer speakers are bookshelf speakers and work stand alone, 2.1, rear channel, and satalite applications. you caint compair the two. in a 2.1 SYSTEM with a subwoofer, I'll take the Polks over the Pioneers. in a stand alone stereo or satalite application, I would take and recommend the Pioneer speakers. you may want to consider the Polk T-15 speakers. on sale now for $49 bucks on Amazon. 5 1/4 inch woofers, 1 inch dome extended range woofer, 60Hzt to 21,000Khz. very good sounding and at half price, caint beat them. they are better than the Pioneers I think, a little better base and more clear sounding
Why this speakers arent 8ohms? So many receivers do less distorcion working at 8ohms instead 6ohms :( Probably i will buy a klipsch r15 because that, however obviously it will cost me much more.
hey Z i got the 22,s on my desk mind you my desk is pretty big but they sound great neerfield they running off a sony str DA 333es receiver and a mirage 8in sub nice sound love your stuff keep it up
Hey I have a question. I know these are pretty vintage but would you recommend the sansui sp-1500? The cheapest pair I can find right now is about $150 but I would probably wait a little longer for a cheaper pair but I've heard amazing things about these speakers. I would be using these for music from that era cause I know they won't blow me away for most modern music. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Joey Sendzik The older sansui's were really some works of art, my father has a set with the intricately cut wooden grill and although they sound old (muddy and warm) they are really pleasing to hear. If you know what you are getting go for it. If you want a bit more accuracy you have to go newer than that.
Based on the video review of the Fluance SX-6's I purchased a pair about a month ago. After hearing the Pioneer BS-22's and the SX-6's, to me the Fluance speakers blow the Pioneers out of the water and at a similar price. The Pioneers to me have a sound that seems to cut off a lot of the higher frequencies (whatever it's called) and didn't measure up to the all the reviews and accolades I've heard. I know audio is subjective but having owned PSB, Paradigm, and even Wharfedale Diamond speakers, the Fluance are right up there in quality.
+ZeosPantera I really like your reviews, thanks a lot! Now I am considering to buy a Fluance SX 6. Unfortunately, I cannot find the sonud test of it in your channel. Could you please link it for me?
In your opinion are these better than the Polk Audio TSi100 Bookshelf Speakers? I will be using them as fronts on a home theather system mostly for movie watching. Any help would be appreciated.
JohndeBeaufortAFC , Polk has a " brighter" tweeter. both are ported. Polk are 5 1/4 inch woofer. Pioneer are 4 inch woofer. so it becomes a matter of what you like. I personally think the Polk T-15 are a much better sounding and less expensive speaker. made just as good. personal preference is the key here............. Pioneer bs-22s, good with tube amps, record players. Polk, more so with digital class -d, CD or digital music. Pioneer's are warmer, more Mello, easier to listen to over a longer listening session. your choice, hope this helps you.
Suprised with the amount of people 'cough' in here asking if they can connect to the phone or PC. To answer your question 5 years later if you haven't figured it out yet - The answer is NO. You need an AMPLIFIER. If you want to connect directly to a PC or phone you need POWERED speakers. POWERED speakers have the AMPLIFIER built in, the BS22's are NOT POWERED. Rant over.

Z ... We bring an updated review of the Pioneer SP-BS22 Lr! Thank you!
"this is a very technical test." LOL

Everyone goes on about the small driver in large enclosure...it's probably what makes it sound nice :)
Not actually
Rennie Ash , exactly, it's getting that symmetry correct. speaker size vs. speaker enclosure & ported, radiator, or sealed design right.
once you figure all that out the next step is the cross overs ??
just like with the Micca mb42 and 42X. is a great example of crossover design.
great job pioneer, i got 5.1 set 2 towers, center and two bs22 with a 12inch woofer sounds perfect. you wont go wrong with these speakers.
Hey Bud , I was looking forward to to listening to your could you do another video please with out the copyright issue
Just got a 2nd hand pair of the FS52 (floorstanders) for spare change and damn they are good for the price!
Could you please do a comparison video of the Pioneer BS22's and the Fluance SX6?
woginator69 , dude are you on crack ?

a more honest comparison would be the Micca 42Xs, I love the Micca's but the pioneer's have a better cabnet
Would love to see you try some of the vintage Design Acoustics Point Source speakers. Have you had the pleasure?
, a much better comparison would be the Pioneer against the Polk T-15 model.
why would you compare a 4 inch speaker against the Pioneer 5 1/4. ?????
do u still recommend the bs22 in 2021 ? im able to get them brand new for under $100. what about compared to the Sony SSCS5 ? for the best sound (not too bright, not too weak) for $100 or less what would you choose hands down ?
These are a classic for taking out the 4 inch woofer and putting in a 51/4 inch woofer !!! Like the tang band 51/4
you mention the Polk's but you never reviewed them!? I wonder why!?! Hmmmm....
I have Pioneer BS22 + Center, would the Micca mb42x be a good pairing for surrounds and rears to finish up a 7.1 setup???
Which is better Wharfedale Diamond 220 or Pioneer SP-BS22-LR? Sound quality, bass extension, mid, highs because I can get the Wharfedale less than the Pioneer. I Just want to make sure if it is worth it.

@@number1pappy 6 ohm shouldn't be a problem
Which is better on sound quality Wharfedale Diamond 220 or Pioneer SP-BS22-LR? regardless of price/performance ratio.
Hows the bass performance of the 4 inch driver vs the dayton b652 airs? Do they sound better?cnet says they sound better all over than the b652 air, thanks in advance.

Michael Hallett At a desk? The BS22;s. the 51's would be hard to place.
Speaking of BIC..Dv64s or the pioneer Andrew Jones floor standers?
so whats better the Polk Audio OWM3 or the bs22s? the bs22s are a bit more expensive O.o

This is a high WAF speaker.......that’s excellent. So many things to consider when buying speakers lol.

14 and a half minutes long and you don't tell us how they sound... Hmmm.
Pioneer SP-BS22 ou JBL Stage A130 ?
Can you connect them to your phone?
At 10:24 you point at a white speaker. What is it?
Mr. Zeos if price is not a factor which is better buy Micca MB42x or Pioneer SP-BS22-LR?
The 22's are just more speaker. If you can fit them then there you go. BUT if you can fit these you can fit the Fluance SX6's.. and there you go.

GREAT video.. I like these comparison videos.. In depth
Good thing i didnt buy the 21 last year.
Great video! Would you choose the bs22lr or the mb42x for PC desktop usage? Thanks!
MB42x are a better fit.
+Z Reviews thanks for the response
I LOVE that White Fluance of yours. What spray paint did you use to do that?
I believe it was a textured white Rustoleum spray can.
I also sanded the vinyl down (cherry colored not textured black) and sprayed a self etching primer coat.

Randy Sanders I concur. They aren't very pretty but they sound amazing.

Micca mb42x vs dayton audio b652 air overall sound quality??
In your opinion are these better than the Polk Audio TSi100 Bookshelf Speakers? I will be using them as fronts on a home theather system mostly for movie watching. Any help would be appreciated.
The Polk might be my choice. Although I have since replaced these in my mind with wavecrest or even ELAC's for more money vs these.
Took your advise and went with the ELAC's for my center and front's . And went with the Polks for side's and rear. Thanks ZReviews
JohndeBeaufortAFC , Polk has a " brighter" tweeter.
both are ported. Polk are 5 1/4 inch woofer.

made just as good.

zeos, check out the teac ls h265, they are a great contendor for the pioneers... similar price range also 80 bucks per pair right now at amazon
I have a pair on the way right now for next months give-a-way on my subreddit. I hope they are as good as everyone says they are.
certainly i find them to be awesome. i currently own a pair of miccas, and i can saw that teacs beat them by far
Thanks for doing this, I was thinking of doing something similar and posting it. Fun stuff!
how good are these for vinyl listening?
+coney island lurker Not terrible. I have upgraded my preferences since this video. [redd.it/43mn1n]
Z Reviews Care to elaborate? Define "Not Terrible", everyone on Reddit says these are great for vinyl listening.
Waiting for elac b5 or b6 review, he claims to have made a 20,000 speaker for $229
Hey Zeo, would I be able to run these with my Audio GD NFB 11.38 dac/amp?
Please shake the camera more.
