Copart Buyers Beware - Pre Bid Increment Bid Proxy Bidding Issues Could be Costing You Extra Money!

In this video we discuss one issue with pre bidding that may cause you to spend more money than you anticipated to spend at Copart. I have heard others complain of this issue and I want everyone to know about it. This could be a big problem for some buyers.

The main reason to remove the increment bidding sometimes is that Copart's fee structure isn't linear. There are a couple places where their fee jumps a lot. For example for a non business bidder Copart fee goes up by $100 from $2999 vs. $3000. Business buyers take a $175 hit at $4k vs. $3999, so I'll park at $3950. Though we all hope something good will fall through the cracks and we'll get a monster deal I haven't found that to be the case. If I want it enough I'll just go up to my limit and let the next guy take the bigger fee hit. Granted, bidding during the live auction is preferred.

I used to set my high bid early in an auction on GovDeals until they started using that as a defacto shill bid against myself.
Opening bid would be $50 and it used to be you could put in $500 as your max and it would register $50.
Then it started by using my max. as my opening bid.
Total horseshit and govdeals and the seller blew smoke up my ass when confronted about it.
Previously my max. bid never even got exercised and I got what I wanted for much less and to be honest that is what happened when I won an Autotron 3300 heat inductor recently in fairness.
Still. Pretty lousy when you're shill bidding against yourself.
