  • In this video I've tested a few possible substitutes for commercially available toner darkeners (toner aide).
    Toner darkeners used when there is a need to increase contrast of the template to produce PCB, prints on T-shirts or any similar silkscreen process that require photoresist and UV exposure.

    Excellent video, and great editing! Could you post the solution of the manufacturer’s thinner that worked best? I’m wondering if I could find something like that in the US.
    Looking at a Gost requirement it seems like 647 is the following:
    toolol (41.3%);
    butyl acetate (29.8%);
    butyl alcohol (7.7%);
    ethyl acetate (21.2%).
    But I’m curious because you said some seemed to work different
    Also, can you perhaps buy acetone as acrylic nail remover? That’s how I get mine and it is cheap.

      Thank you!
      I just tried ethyl acetate (had a bottle of it laying around) and its dissolving toner pretty quick (a few seconds!).
      I guess it can also be diluted with some alcohol to proper concentration to slowly "etch" toner.
      I have tried a few 647 and only one of the manufacturer’s thinners worked for me.
      Also I noticed that it even could be different from bottle to bottle. Those manufacturers in Ukraine have wide tolerances :) But it's only a paint thinner, so maybe it's ok.
      The viable solution is to buy and try a few paint thinners and if they don't work right away then dilute them a little with some alcohol.
      Fortunately in my country there is a paint thinner "Acetone+" - roughly a 50-60% pure acetone. Often it's cheaper to buy a bottle of it then a few smaller bottles of nail remover. But nail remover is good alternative too.

    Файно! Молодець!! Все гарно й доступно пояснив!!Єдине питання: який саме спирт і якої концентрації використовувався?

      Дякую. Щоб розбавити трохи розчинник використовував ізопропиловий спирт, 99% здається.

    I tried with plain alcohol (alcohol lotion, contains 93% alcohol) but didn't work .
    The mixture was 50% alcohol and 50% aceton.
    I will try with isopropyl alcohol too.

      Thanks for your comment!
      What does the paper look like after it?
      It would be logical to test a mix of acetone and alcohol and show it in the video, but unfortunately in my country, I can't buy acetone as an individual and test it. Only legal entities can buy it.

      @@electronpath The paper looked ok but on the toner appeared small gaps! So, it got worse than it already was!
      I will try with paint thinner too.

      I think it's just too much acetone, but I could be wrong.
      Paint thinner also contains toluene, and I don't know if you can achieve the result with just acetone and alcohol, but in theory, with the right mix it should partially dissolve toner.

      @@electronpath I just tried with paint thinner & alcohol (50-50). It got partially dark but also smudged, the dissolved toner got spread all over the print.
      I guess I have to find the paint thinner you 're using. Very difficult if not impossible.

      If it's got darker - it's working. Try to add more alcohol until it's not as reactive.
      If the solution got too weak you can use a weaker solution a few times and check if the toner becomes darker or not.Without knowing the chemical composition it's all trial and errors ...

    Потрібно було попробувати бензин "Калоша", він досить гарно витирає тонер з магнітних валів. І ще одне, рекомендують перед засвіткою ультрафіолетом трішки змочити папір олією, він стане прозоріший.

    • @electronpath
      @electronpath  4 роки тому +1

      Дякую! Тепер буду знати чим можна тонер витерти.
      Попробую змочити, але не думаю що це обов'язково. Калька є більш прозоріша до ультрафіолету ніж навіть прозорі плівки для лазерного друку. І крім того дешевша.

      @@electronpath Цікаво, не знав того факту, що калька прозоріша для ультрафіолету.
