    Barrel racing is when 3 barrels are set up in a large triangle. Rider runs in around 1st barrel on right, then left, then the barrel at the top of the triangle and then they run straight back out. The fastest rider wins. It was never my thing but I had friends who did it.

    Haha if you're coming to the UK in October, make sure you dress warm! I live 20 minutes from central London on the train and come mid-october it's fairly chilly. Make sure you pack a warm coat that covers your back and bum (so that you can sit down outside if it has been raining), bring a scarf and a hat, and definitely make sure you bring some waterproof shoes. I have some suede boots which look cute with autumnal outfits but they're not practical when it has been raining, so bring some trainers that you don't mind getting muddy. If you're going further up north, you may wanna pack extra coats and whatnot so that while one coat is drying (cause it will most likely rain), you can wear a different one.
    I hope you have a good time visiting! And I apologise for all the rain 😂

      Ooh the double jacket is a good tip, for while one’s drying! Thank you for this 💕 we popped over in January in 2023 and relished the cold, I love winter! Didn’t get many wet days on that trip though.
      Technically we’re still in winter in my city right now but it was 35C today, I’m already over it 🤣

    Glad to see you enjoyed The Night Circus!! It's my all-time favorite book and one of the only I've reread (multiple times..) ❤️🖤✨️
    The way all the plotlines tie-in together and the overall aesthetic of the book is super well-executed in my opinion. The opening and ending also remain forever iconic to me.

    I love the idea of reading journals. It encourages people to actually read even if it's audiobooks. Growing up I didn't care for reading and when I did read it was the Saddle Club book series or the Love Stories book series. Now that I'm an adult and mother, I enjoy reading and try to encourage my children to read as well. You mentioned barrell racing from one of your books; barrell racing is where the rider has the horse go as fast as they can around 3 or more barrels depending on the race they have entered. They are judged on their time and whomever can do it the fastest wins. I used to ride equestrian, Hunter/jumper class. You find barrel racing at a lot of rodeos. Happy journaling my dear friend!

    Such lovely spreads as always! A few weeks ago, I was 6 books behind on my reading goal (52 books in the year), so I picked up the Lore Olympus graphic novels which are quick reads for me and that helped me catch up on my goal and thankfully took me out of a bit of slump that I was in, so now I'm more motivated to pick up a full book :) A Tempest of Tea is on my "Reading Hopefuls" list - my version of your Maybe Next ;) - for next month so I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it!

    I graduated from my graduate degree last year and started getting back into reading afterwards (school kept me occupied so much I basically took a 6 year break from reading). So I went into this year thinking "oh! 24 books for the whole year sounds good. That's 2 a month", but it's September and I'm already at 47 books. So next year I'll probably have to up that number quite a bit.

    Came to the comments to explain barrel racing, saw someone already did, lol. I had cousins who did rodeo, but I never had a horse for it. Looked like fun though. It's more often girls who do the barrel racing. Teenage boys always seem to want to do the bull riding. My cousins did that until one broke his leg and then their mom made them stop. Sounds like an interesting book.

But my favorite was actually a fanfiction for supernatural that I loved so much I reread immediately when I got done the first time and have now accepted it as official cannon in my mind and it's on my ereader with the rest ofy supernatural books. Supernatural the TV show books that is. I need a better way to track my reading cause I spend everyday reading it's just not always books.

    I would love to know how you go about copying the lettering from book covers! I love the look of it and want to try it in my own journal but I'm not sure how to start, I'm a novice when it comes to hand lettering. ♥
    I read Yours Truly this month as well and I just felt so seen by the author's portrayal of Jacob's anxiety that I was willing to forgive some of the stuff towards the end that wasn't my favorite, either 😅

    • @ErinSmith
      @ErinSmith  20 днів тому +1

      Hi Amanda! This is where the dot grid comes in so handy - you can set one of the vertical or horizontal lines in the lettering at a specific length, so maybe a T would be four dot grid spaces tall and three wide. That gives you a basis for the size of all the letters, and from there you can just look for shapes instead of letters and work out how long/wide/curved they should be based on those measurements around them! I once saw someone suggest copying something like this upside down, so your brain stops seeing the letters and starts seeing the shapes and spaces between instead - might be worth a try!
      Jacob is such a gem of a character, I adore him 😍 I’m pretty lucky to not suffer from anxiety in that way, but I’m a huge introvert who needs 8-10 business days to recover from a social engagement so I see a lot of me in him too. I think the fact that the book made me so frustrated is actually a testament to Abby Jimenez’ writing, she got me SO invested in this couple!

    And also which pen did you use to write the quote? (White body) for tempest tea?

    • @ErinSmith
      @ErinSmith  20 днів тому

      These are such great questions! I don’t actually know what the fountain pen is - I should try a reverse image search! Someone gave it to me already inked so I don’t know what’s in it either 🥲
      The white barrel pen is an Archer & Olive calliograph, which I also got in one of their subscription boxes last year. It doesn’t have a colour name or number on the barrel so I have no idea if it’s available in any of their current sets - they seem to do lots of one-off colours for their sub boxes 🥲
