Her voice is astounding. Almost not quite believable. Notice at the end, as she finishes the long, last note she seems to slowly come out of a trance. It must be intoxicating to possess such a gift.
The good thing about her is that she sings loud but doesn't sound screamy or like she's yelling, it's raw power and nothing else. I love her voice so much.
No matter how many times I hear her sing this, it always brings me to tears. She is simply the most incredible singer I have ever heard in my 60 years. And singing one of the best songs ever written. . . . what a powerful combination. There are no words to describe it.
I had the pleasure of see K D in concert last year and may I say when she sang this song the audience was captivated. I have always been awed by her beautiful voice , she is truly in a league of her own......What a gift to all of us !!!!!!!
Unfortunately I heard this version of Hallelujah today at a funeral, I immediately fell in love with your rendition of this truly amazing song. Well done K.d Lang you have instantly won me as fan, what a truly amazing performance. I will go out and buy the album asap. Thanks
the combination of this phenomenal tune and this phenomenal artist is soul nourishing. She makes it really mean something.profound and significant .... bravo bravo...blows me away
Never been a KD fan mostly due to her lifestyle... But now, at 47 years old I've grown tired of being judgemuntal of such frivolous things. This is by far the best version of this song ever sung. I watched it 5 times in a row! You're witnessing one of the best voices in music. KD... If I ever meet you, I'll bow and appoligize for any mean thing I ever said about you.
So beautiful, I have been a KD Lang fan since back in the 70's when she sang on one of Edmonton's local TV shows...before she was became a STAR. She had this amazing voice, and she was wearing these hippie looking clothes, and she never stopped moving as she paraded around the stage. I could hear and see greatness in this gals performance. She was interviewed, and she named the place she had bought her fabulous wardrobe...I won't mention where that was, so funny!!. Unique!
When someone says there is no advantage to growing older, i will direct them to this video. Her voice has matured and her interpretation of all of her songs just keeps getting better. Sinatra first, K.D. second.... and she still has time to go!
and I don't care where she comes from, where she goes, who she goes with...with that gift, in my book, she has earned herself...freedom to be any dang thing she wants...
K.D. Lang brings out one of the many layers of this song. She gives the impression that who ever the song is about, how sad they are. People like Rufus Wainright bring out the lonliness of the song, and people like Bon Jovi bring out the sexuality of it. Each version brings a new emotion. And thats why i like this song so much.
Spectacular! k.d. lang's version is clearly the best. I wish I had such a smooth voice as she does. There is nothing lacking here. The woman is a great singer! WoW!
EAR-GASMIC....WOW ...OMG... this is the BEST version of this song... WOW! She is Canadian, she is Buddhist, She is Vegetarian, She is an animal activist, she is Gay and I LOVE her voice... effortless perfection.. true artistic creation.. she owns this song and pours it out of her heart into the core of your being -
So well said, Renata...I see you know her amazing personality, too. Now 8 years later and she got an award for singing this song at the Canadian Olympics, which I'm sure you know. Also, before Leonard Cohen died he complemented her personally and even cried himself when she sang it when he was in the audience. She magnificant!
I saw her sing this at the Hollywood Bowl after they reconstructed the stage and it was the most beautiful night I've ever had in LA. I love you KD and Cohen.
@theSPILLYbros this is the best song i have ever heard her sing...well done K.D. and in my beautiful sydney too....your are a great woman and singer....Rey (Australia)
K.D. Lang was born to sing this song. You feel the broken Hallelujah and it spills through your sole until you are drenched in its warmth and by its depth of its despair. Bless Leonard Cohen and k.D. Lang for this song.
just found this yesterday. I listened for hours to different videos of her doing it. Reminds me of Merv Griffin's show early 70's-Liza Minelli was on and he asked her to sing Somewhere Over the Ranbow. She politely smiled and sd, "It's already been sung." FYI Judy Garland was her mother. KD version of Hallelujah is one you'll remember for a lifetime, like Kate Smith's God Bless America & Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow. Hallelujah has been SUNG, no one will ever top it and shouldn't try.
Perfection and chills :) the most amazing control . yet so humble . saw her 5 X's from country punk beginnings to her last tour . this song left the audience in tears and speechless :) Love k.d. XOXOXOX
I have to disagree with the comment about the pacing of the song causing boredom. The whole feeling of the song is deeply spiritual, and listening to the lyrics brings renewed wonder to my heart. Lang's treatment of the lyrics, her phrasing, and incredible vocal talent serve Leonard Cohen's creative brilliance well.
An awesome song!!! 4:54-5:04 are 10 full seconds of musical perfection!!!!!! k.d you are an angel . Thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of the world
The first time I really listened to this beautiful song was when KD sang it during the Vancouver Winter Games. ...amazing!!! I felk in love with the song and I have deeper appreciation for KD as an artist....thank you KD ♥
this is the best song i have ever heard her sing...well done K.D. and in my beautiful sydney too....your are a great woman and singer....Rey (Australia)
I am not John and I don't know why his name is here but I AM Catherine and I thank you k d for being such a wonderful teacher. May all of your every wishes come true in 2017 because you deserve them.
Almost twenty years since I first saw this and I still get the chills from it. The absolute best version of this song. I adore Jeff Buckley's version but she owned this.
Think Leonard Cohen admitted that k.d. "owns" this song prior to his passing. When she sang it at the Juno Awards, the standing ovation lasted for many minutes. She sings from her heart and soul and you feel it. A special kind of inner and outer beauty. Have tickets to see her at Broward Center For The Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, early September 2018. It has been on my bucket list for a long, long time.
Beautiful! Fantastic singing and feeling. I think I understand why but still wish she hadn't left out the verse that goes: "I remember when I moved in you, The holy dove she was moving too, And every breath we drew was hallelujah."
Lang's best performance of the song... or anybody else's, for that matter.
Her voice is astounding. Almost not quite believable. Notice at the end, as she finishes the long, last note she seems to slowly come out of a trance. It must be intoxicating to possess such a gift.
Greatest voice of our era.
You got that right!
I had the pleasure of see K D in concert last year and may I say when she sang this song the audience was captivated. I have always been awed by her beautiful voice , she is truly in a league of her own......What a gift to all of us !!!!!!!
Love KD Lang, she has a true gift. A true artist! This version of this song is hands down for me the best I've ever heard. Gives me chills!
Unfortunately I heard this version of Hallelujah today at a funeral, I immediately fell in love with your rendition of this truly amazing song. Well done K.d Lang you have instantly won me as fan, what a truly amazing performance. I will go out and buy the album asap. Thanks
This is the performance and the voice the song deserved.
Perfect pitch, perfect control, perfect performance! Heard this song 100 times but never really "heard" it until now. Awesome job, KD!
She was the highlight of the opening ceremonies this year at the Olympics...her vocal control is astounding.
the combination of this phenomenal tune and this phenomenal artist is soul nourishing. She makes it really mean something.profound and significant .... bravo bravo...blows me away
what a voice... she owns this song.....no one does it better
I love KD. She's so amazing. Love this version so much. Chills every time
Total goosebump city from where I'm sitting. She takes this song and runs with it.
Never been a KD fan mostly due to her lifestyle... But now, at 47 years old I've grown tired of being judgemuntal of such frivolous things.

You're witnessing one of the best voices in music.
KD... If I ever meet you, I'll bow and appoligize for any mean thing I ever said about you.
I listen to this recording all the time. I'm pretty sure at least a couple thousand of the views are from me. Her rendition is by far the best.
This is my "go to sleep" music. It fills my soul with peace. Thank you KD!

No matter how many times I hear K. D. Lang sing this it gives me goosebumps! Just beautiful!!
This is the one of the best Kd Lang's 'Hallelujah' I believe.
She was in the zone....she comes out of it in the end. Love it. Love this song. Love her rendition. Love her.
When someone says there is no advantage to growing older, i will direct them to this video. Her voice has matured and her interpretation of all of her songs just keeps getting better. Sinatra first, K.D. second.... and she still has time to go!
She's the best!
A beautiful song sung by a glorious voice written by a true poet and genius.
She has the purest and most breathtaking voice. Her performance at the opening ceremonies was awe inspiring. Way to go KD

Heavenly ! She's A Goddess !
Spectacular! k.d. lang's version is clearly the best. I wish I had such a smooth voice as she does. There is nothing lacking here. The woman is a great singer! WoW!
Everytime I hear this version it feels like I have a religious experience. Incredible.
