I grew up watching this movie in the 2000s, loved it then, and re-watched it in 2021, for the first time in many years. Definitely feels like a mid 2000s movie. Wow how times have changed. It's still a great movie, whose best scenes are mostly the ones with Peter Sarsgaard. I miss movies like this so much, sad that Hollywood doesn't seem to make them anymore, those introspective arthouse films that defined the teenhood of so many of us growing up in the 2000s. A couple years ago I got into listening to Hugo Kant's music, that kept reminding me of Garden State, so I had to revisit the movie, and it brought back so many memories of my life back then, what I wanted to do, and how life has just kind of drifted along these past several years. I long for travel again.
I'm so late to discover this movie, but man, what a breath of fresh air. Genuine film making, acting, you can tell ZB really had something on his mind he wanted to tell in a story.
You sound like an echo from the past. Probably you are young... At one point this aesthetic and experimental european+American+asian cinema were as widespread as other productions. Action films are unrealistic representation of cinematography. Historically normal narratives and directors ruled this space. Another good example would be experimental cinema, like Donnie Darko, and the Sofia Coppola 'cinema disco's (experiments with the medium of expression and aesthetics that brought movies to its heights, about ten years ago). Zach Braff is one of the lines of cinema development, of many, that deserves funding much more than action films of pointless special effects with no psychological depth to them. Yes, I am a cinema critic and this is my opinion. Other directors i miss after they destroyed our serotonin and dopamine receptors with violent cinema, is M night shayamalan, and the entire Asian crew with directors such as Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Kairo). When you look into it, there is too much good cinema to name. They have to pay me to write about it, and I am willing to. But the widespread garbage they produce lately makes me need to stop speaking about true artistic accomplishments, because there are ugly souls in this industry now, and they look for anything they could destroy and turn into a joke. Their problem is that in the military they teach them to be ashamed of humanness and suppress it within themselves. On the contrary my crafts and arts I participate in are based on exploring deep human emotions and though - which fights with the fears and desire to control through policing and brainwashing. The dignity if real art is that it does not force the audience to think and feel - it invites, inspires and leads the public to explore human emotions and obtain understandings about the world they treasure afterwards. It's sad and shameful there is hardly any normal cinema being funded in recent years. A lot like Ingmar Bergman after the government stole his artworks, I am insulted by the industrial standards they have placed upon cinematic art, so I am not feeling safe to write about its diamonds which I adore and recommend to everyone who is capable to comprehend their value and meaning. It is sickness to be robbed of your creative ideas and products. It's like being deprived of a baby, and in the same way it should be persecuted by laws. Have a happy exploration of festival films, I envy you for the journey.

i saw it about 10 years ago or so. really enjoyed the casual story telling, plus zach was excellent in this film imo. i am not one to watch that many movies, but this one is one of the few that stood out to me.
Some of us are only filmmakers in our head, but if given the chance, could not put a handful of stories in more than one movie. ZB is a great actor, but appart from Garden State does he really have another movie that is at the same level of excellence in story-telling? He is only human, and humans die eventually. It would be great if all humans could tell their own story before death, so they can die fulfilled.
Wowowow, I really love this movie. This is one of my favorite movies, because this is the first movie I had ever watched. “if you cannot laugh at yourself, life’s gonna seem whole lot longer than you’d like…”
Meu filme favorito da vida, desde muito nova... consigo me identificar com os 2 personagens. É como se eu tivesse um pouco de cada dentro de mim e assim consigo sobreviver aos problemas da vida.. amooooooooooooooo 🤍
So so underrated. What a beautiful photography and songs. Ohh my gosh. It is absoluetly amazing. Tell me what are the most common question in life…what is the meaning ? Where we are going? Ho can we release our beloved ones… Zach Braff is one of the most talented film makers ever. Absolutely unique.
osprey thinking ---- what with these public filming regulations cant get any privacy now -- told wife a small bungalow would have been better --- all she said was the rent do you know how much .... better off here free fish good schools fresh air ... and the rspb folk are friendly enough .... most of them .... are you coming to bed luv ... yeah ..
This was one of the most boring movies I have ever watched. It was recommended to me by a friend, and this ridiculously high rating fooled me too. I was watching and waiting and waiting SOMETHING TO HAPPEN! And literally nothing happens in the entire fucking movie, nothing. Story line is non-existent. Like when you wait for someone and the person never appears. WTF! And the ending OMG, it was the most unreal hopeless romantic shit that made me even more angry. The only good thing I can point out was that it has that innocent approach in comparison to the modern films. I don't know what kind of people like this so much, guess these people are also incredibly lonely, depressed and believe in this kind of love that simply does not exist in real life.
Go and watch some action man if you’re bored. This movie requires a certain level of maturity and emotion to understand and enjoy. This was a masterpiece in my eyes.
@@user-mu2bj7cf8h Oh God, another hopeless romantic... I think you have to be very immature, unhappy and emotionally unfulfilled to like this "masterpiece", this is the profile that they targeted. But hey, whatever floats your boat, I wish you to have a real love and enjoy life.

It's a coming of age story. There is no big story. Just things that happen in everyday life and I think that's beautiful
