- In this film Soraya tells us that calligraphy is contingent upon three things: the instruction of the master, the maintenance of practice and the religion of Islam. A good student must have five characteristics to embark on the journey of becoming a master and it may take years to succeed. It is no doubt an incredible and complicated skill and the wonderful description of a mistake as small as the liver of a flea having the ability to destroy the beauty of a composition, is an excellent example of the finesse and discipline it requires, for the service of the eye of the beholder.

AA, I started teaching myself Khat Thuluth for the last 2 years by watching videos of professional Khattats and practicing a lot. Is there any online classes offered by the Khattats that you mentioned from Turkey? I live in USA and very hard for me to visit them personally even within a year.

Macha Allah, this video is very well done and the explanation is so excellent. I am so much interested by Arabic Calligraphy since my teenage but no one to teach me . I have my own style but it's very far away from what I have seen in this video.

Book title is in Turkish: `Mehmet Şevki Efendi'Nin Sülüs-Nesih Hat Meşkleri` , Search with key word IRCICA. Perhaps they also ship abroad.

There is a Proverb for Islamic Calligraphy in Turkish: "Quran revealed in Mecca, Recited in Cairo, Wrote in Istanbul." Turkish Calligraphers are really so gifted in Islamic Calligraphy, not only in History also nowadays.
