Black Zulu - classic wet fly tying

- The first fly I ever caught a trout on. I guess I was eight or nine years old, and I didn't even have a fly rod back then. Just a Black Zulu, 10 feet of mono line and my bare hands. By now this fly has followed me through nearly five decades ;0) The combination of black, silver and red seems to work for all kind of trout... anywhere.

One of my all time favourite flies, especially when we were kids fishing the hill lochs. A Zulu and a Butcher were all you needed
Thanks for your comment, Robin. You are right. A black Zulu and a Butcher is a nice pair to have in the box for trout fishing anywhere :0)
@@MichaelJensensAngling So I saw this video/comment six months ago when everything was still iced in here in Colorado, I tied a few of these. Today, in a remote canyon stream, my son was struggling. I tied on one of the Zulus I had tied. He hucked it into the top of a run that was in the shadows, he waited for it to drift into structure and sunlight to start stipping and BOOM. A large beautiful wild trout was soon in hand. So thank you for putting that in my fly box it landed a very special trout for us today. Godspeed to you and yours.
@@ernestezis9526 Thanks a lot for your feedback and the wonderful story. Thrilled that the good old Black Zulu did the trick again. All the best, Michael :0)
a golden oldie
Look excellent.👍 Have a great weekend.
Thanks a lot, Abe. And a great weekend to you as well. All the best, Michael :0)
Beautifully tied Michael. That's my favorite size hook for wets too. Thanks 👍😎
Thanks a lot, Joe :0)
Michael Jensen awesome! I've got to read the description better, ten feet of mono and no rod! I was about the same age but at least I had a branch for a rod. I tried cotton string and a safety pin until a fellow camper set me up with mono and a hook. Caught 2 nice perch on a piece of beef fat off the dock at Old Forge in our Adirondacks. My first fish! I still have the black and white photo stashed somewhere. And you can tell by the photo I also ate the beef fat lol! Great story Michael 👍😎🎣
So... you had a branch... you tackle tart ;0) Cool story Joe. Wonderful to think that those first encounters with perch, trout, panfish or pike was the start of a long life waving rods over water. Guess we should be forever grateful for that first small... but important fish :0)
Michael Jensen lol 👍😁🎣 indeed!
It's all you still need!!!
You are not all wrong, Shane. The Black Zulu is a workhorse in any water with trout and grayling. Tight lines, Michael :0)
Hi Michael what are the materials needed please? Thanks for the video!😊
Hi Cuan. Thanks for your feedback. You find a material list at 0:32 in the film. Cheers, Michael 🙂
