After using his ult (3 slash) you will not have any mobility to disengage in combat making him a free target. It would be nice if he can forcefully return to his normal mode to use his dash skill
@@masihimhaf His speed is not good too, in his ult. His stunning skill is also slow, he will still be an easy target for the opponents before using stun+flicker. His defence now is not great too against good enemy composition. He can do good in a match, but weaker then many other characters.

If his dmg was slightly higher, he was in meta too. He’s no far from meta because spell vamp for him is good, but better with higher dmg or very well if he had more sustain on himself.

I've been using him as a main since last month. Lapu Lapu just needs 2 adjustments, 1) passive just takes too long but has little buff. 2) 3rd skill's 3rd burst animation takes forever to hit
He's an early game hero so falling on late game is quite understandable, and the reason they gave him shield instead of heal is due to his AoE and Spellvamp that allows him get full hp just from a single wave.. Overall, its quite decent. Tho I agree there should be changes made about his passive and lategame damage because unlike other fighter, lapu lapu's damage is falling way too hard. It would also be convenient if they gave him a bit of durability when he's using his 2nd ult, so that he can tank for the team when the tank are just nuts..
Well i like the old one more. Because even in late game he can still be a threat. The old lapu lapu raw burst damage is far more efficient than his revamp. What i like about his revamp is he became very tanky, that I even build him pure tank after I built Blood lust axe.
I liked the old Lapu more, he said " the enemies are many and i am alone, but one slap and kill them all". And he made for destroying teamfights with insane dmg and a dash in his ultimate form. I got a savage with the old Lapu and i only had 10 games with him. If he caught you with his ult you were dead, not to mention his old petrify and flicker combos.
Yup.. I use the passive shield Aegis shield Passive shield again then rosegold shield. And then passive shield again😂 I chain those 3 shileds, it made him unli shield😂

i think by giving his first skill in base form 2 versions where if they're melee range it has increased damage and has faster cast time and maybe a bit of spellvamp for his first skill like hayabusa would be great for him in the early game against sustain matchups
His previous skills where the most balanced because his 1st could damage in a straight line with no gap, his 2nd is a dash much longer and has speed up buff, his ult has much longer ranged stun and his 2nd phase ult are effective of bringing damage. The Heavy sword state 1st is a ranged skill that deals big damage and slowdown, the 2nd was a short dash but deals more damage than the normal one and his heavy state ult is a burst where he swings his heavy sword that deals large amount of damage around him. His passive was even more simpler to fill because it just needs five bars to activate just like pacquito and aurora by using his skills against heroes and creeps. Now the current lapu-lapu might be more agile than the previous one but his 1st has a gap, his 2nd is shorter and ult is a bootleg version of freya's 1st. His 2nd phase 1st and 2nd skills are a much weaker version of his previous ultimates and the ult deals much bigger damage but needs to swing 3 times where heroes could easily avoid while the previous ultimate just needed to swing once reaps a lot of health. His passive was a gigantic nerf that moonton thought they could fool me that its a buff. The passive no longer fills like the previous version and it fills very slow that they added an asspull feature to his ult where it'll fill half of the bar so he could use the passive where the previous just needed to do the principle. And one of my biggest gripes as an ex-lapu-lapu user is how they changed his awesome buff design into skinny looking faggot, his sword design is mediocre unlike the previous one that looks like it was molded in a stone and he just took it it really looks awesome and the most embarrassing part his voice lines are cringe and that they hired a mediocre filipino voice actor to just get more filipino players but in reality they don't need to.
I really want Moonton to change his passive damige into true damage because most of the time I play him is I always build 2-3 attack builds and the rest are defense and he's kinda lacking of damage, yes.

As a Lapu-lapu main i do agree his early game damage high. The only improvement i can think of is sustaining long fights and mobility on his ultimate form. Most of the meta fighters have sustain to last long battles while lapu-lapu will gonna run out of his skills and ultimate when it comes to long fight, i think they should add some little bit of mobility on his ultimate 2nd skill + plus decrease cooldown and long lasting ultimate that can last long against sustain and tanky enemies. the reason why i want him to last long fight was because he is kind of squishy without his ultimate because of defense buff. Without his ultimate, his damage will gonna fall off real hard and his tankiness is also gone.
I agree with you Elgin. As a Lapu-Lapu main for 2-3 years I really notice that he is good in early to mid game but it cannot carry the team because his damage in the late game seems weak. That's why now I only use him rarely. But his sustainability is in the top tier.💪

I am using Lapu Lapu as my main hero, have over 3 k matches with him. -First of all, I did notice couple of rookie errors when Elgin played him 😛 -Second, for me, the old Lapu Lapu was undeniably perfect there is no need for revamp but ok, it is what it is. - His passive is fair to say useless, at least they could give him critical damage when he charges with full pasive if not anything else, so, critical damage or bigger shield or nothing else but faster way to build his passive. - And as my last opinion about this video, that very first animation when Lapu is jumping in Ult form and smashes ground, that animation is waaaay too long, and if you add time that is needed to activate ult (3 smashes) it takes forever especially that last hit, while he is in that form easy target if he jumps in team fight because he cant activate passive while his loooong timing animations end, not to mention that he can't escape once he throws himself in the fire of battle. This is my opinion from over 3 k matches with my lovely Lapu Lapu, and I hate, just hate to see him suffers from that nerfs on his back, not to mention that moontoon forgot about some new skins for Lapu, it is such a shame god damnit
I think my future prediction below about Lapu-lapu's buffed passive will make his enhanced basic ATK more spammable: (1) Energy gain 10 energy per hit (half from non-hero unit/s) will change to 4 energy per second (taking/dealing hits from/to each unit also gain the same amount); (2) Requirement/s: 100 energy change to 50/100 energy (if any); (3) Revamped effect: 250(+65*Hero Lv) Shield change to restores 5/10% Max HP(scale with used energy); (4) Physical DMG dealt: 150% Physical ATK change to 126(1*Hero Lv)(110% Extra Physical ATK)~152(2*Hero Lv)(120% Extra Physical ATK (scaled with used energy); And (5) New effect: Enhanced Basic ATK also deals damage to enemies behind the target.
Using Lapu-Lapu is like weilding a blunt knife, so you feel like it's harder to cut things. I've been checking him out recently and I feel the developers should work on his passive while on ult mode. Like faster rage regen during his ult, so he can make the most out of his passive skill.

Lapu was really good when he was revamped but the rise of newly released op heroes like Paquito, julian, Yin, revamped thamuz, revamped leomord pushed lapu into forgotten section.
I've been playing Lapu since 2018 even before his revamp. I'd say his old version was better. This version of Lapu has no mobility in his ult which gives him the most damage. Charging in with his ult makes you choose from his 3 skills which is just, damage, stun, or damage reduction. He has no mobility in the stance which leaves him reliant on his spellvamp and then hoping to get away if he already used all his three skills while there are other enemies chasing. In this meta, his damage is not enough to sustain himself and really needs mobility back in his ult. I'd have more to say but obviously I just preferably want his old version back lol
Yeah me too I miss the old one. The old skillset of lapu lapu is very effective in ambush the only thing that is pulling it down in the META before is the difficulty of his passive to stacks.
Like him just like many other forgotten fighters. They’re all either have weak dmg or week sustainability. But honestly, compared him to all the other forgotten fighters, he definitely has a kit much better than them to be balanced in this meta like ruby, martis or yu zhong. The only problem is that he doesn’t have a disengage skill other than his normal form 2nd skill, which would mean he’d be dead by the time his BIG sword form’s over. Maybe i’d suggest bringing his OLD 2nd skill back where it swings AND dashes, the only addition, being if it hits multiple enemies gives him the stacked dmg reduction. So like what elgin said, he definitely needs some nerfs reverted or few buffs if moonton wants lapu2 to shine again like what they suddenly did to terizla (then completely nerfs him xd)
Elgin also pointed out that his first skill needs to be flexible when it comes to targeting, which I fully agree on. He's kit isn't bad, it's just moonton neglecting him.

I think mlbb should add a stun when lapu-lapu uses his ult because its pretty easy to escaep when you have an enemy that has a dash skill and his enchanted first skill should be faster to hit so you cant eascape :)

I want to clear out something on 3:00 I'm an Argus user and I can tell you the part "receiving" damage doesn't really works His passive only replenish when attacking or just idling. Sometimes I think this is a bug since it's been a long time that they didn't fix this yet, it's still on his passive description
maybe can add extra mv speed when use ulti second skill base on enemy hit, as second skil get dmg reduction base on enemy hit, so with extra move speed, should be nice
one of the worst things about his revamp, is the possibility to miss the first skill when the enemies are literally on the middle or a little bit close and the change on his second enchanted skill ... he lost mobility for more damage and a less safer possibility to poke the enemies, I miss his old enchanted skills especially for that dash, I think that he could regain all of his old enchanted skills expect his ult, this enchanted ult is better, maybe a knock up effect on the last strike

One of his ultimate's saving grace was the passive effect of his enhanced 2nd skill, which is damage reduction. I think in his enhanced state they should also add some movement speed and attack damage as buff to make him stronger in ultimate form at least. He was revamped but easily forgotten because of his consecutive nerfs, and that makes his revamped skills useless
His old ult immediately gave him damage reduction on the spot which gave him engaging so much easier..All they really had to do was give him better damage in his old version to compete in today's meta...

I think if they would add true damage to lapu lapu is not a bad idea like the enhanced justice blades will deal true damage to enemies but based on their total lost hp or the final blow on lapu lapu's 3rd ultimate(while on heavy sword mode) would be a great adjustment for his damage can still follow up on enemies on late game♥️⚔️
I'm a Lapu main, the main issue here is your own play style. The past nerfs and adjustment really hit me because of my own play style. Before, I can dominate my lane at the same time go for a backup but now It's more focus on supporting teammates using his cc skills. You don't wanna make this pure damage because he's easy to kill now unlike before and you don't wanna use this on Beatrix and other marksman that can burst out enemies because Lapu-Lapu speciality is going in the middle of the team fight if he killed right before he cast all of his skills then picking it is useless. We need to adjust to use it 100% potential
i think all it is is that he needs more overall damage and also he needs an option to revert to normal normal state for skill 2, and maybe reduce amount of hits needed for passive

i think they can adjust his enhanced second skill. this is his main source of defense in the middle of the teamfight. hitting enemy heroes will give him damage reduction,but what if the enemies already blinked away? it is also a melee skill and the range is quite small. i would like them to give damage reduction for non-enemy heroes hit, altho they can reduce it to half the amount of enemy heroes. this way he can still get some damage reduction when enemies moved away from him.
if you really think about it, he is doing better before his revamp which I thought was unnecessary because he already has good skill combination. But the REAL problem is that his fell down from raw damage to relying on items and it quite literally killed him especially those who don't know how to build a sustain hero and like to play him as burst
His old skills had a lot of synergy and setup too. His ult gave stun and damage reduction immediately. Which you can follow up with his ult which literally dealt half health to heroes back in that meta in just one blow. Unlike now, his damage relies on three hits in which enemies can just dodge and come back to finish Lapu off.
The only change I want now for Lapu-Lapu is that instead of a slow effect when he uses his ulti in normal sword stance, it stuns his enemies in that small circle area. This will be more than enough. Everyone will start playing him then. Ok maybe not everyone, but majority will. Like close to 90%.
What Lapu-Lapu lacks isn't damage, but rather, armor penetration. I suggest that he receives a passive where he gains armor penetration percentage which goes up as he levels.
Yes I use a lot on Lapu-Lapu and what I want his skills is great sword fighting styled that does the first skill three damage activate skill second a dash damage third it change different skills one it shoots big massive blade second crowd control that pulls enemies towards you last one would be deadly slam that does crowd control too and his passive is breaking armor that makes everyone else too weak to trying to reduce his physical
agreed to late game damage and passive, I observe that most of my games is like this, 2 atk items 2 def items and boots, the last remaining item determines how he will become on late game, another def item, he is durable as tank with sustainability but lack dmg, if another atk item, his late game dmg can burst heroes but still to squishy (1 combo kill or ur the one ded instead, maybe adjust his basic skills or passive or add more mobility on his ulti state ( or casting speed)
He has a similar problem with martis fighter build, damage greatly falls off late game while not having that much sustain early game to compensate. Ironically both of them have anti cc + dmg reduction effect that kinda does nothing to vale's damage ult's damage, silvanna or dyroths penetration, and etc.. the skill casting is also a bit slow for anti cc + dmg reduction skills most of the time (3.martis,2.(lapu)²,1.yss is how I would rank the skill cast animation). Definitely the three need some buffs. Especially knowing that lapu and yss are heroes based on certain countries.
i remember when i first started playing ml and he quickly became my main because he was so annoying for heroes with low mobility (this was a really long time ago). now most heroes have some type of dash skill so it’s easy to escape his ult. miss old lapu and old ml
Like most comments, devs should bring back the dash in his ult's second skill. Maybe a lower damage and damage reduction received when hitting enemies will make it better.
Well, his ultimate 2nd skill gives you 20% damage reduction for every hero hit, but it's capped at 80%. The 2nd skill should have a dash like the old lapu²
Damage can be buffed. The only thing that can get you in fight or flight situations is the ult. Like what kuya elgin said, his new ult is more of a damage than a mobility. If it is used but the enemies are still alive, you have no way of escaping alive. From experience...
One thing I could suggest is to make him immune to cc effects when he cast his first skill in ultimate form, I hate it when I get to right in front of my enemies to cast my first skill in ultimate form then they'll just use a stun or knock back then either they get to escape or they just blast you with their skills until your dead
One tip for current Lapu = when the bar is full its and you're escaping its best you use the first skill instead of basic attack because aside from giving shield, it also considerably slows the enemy so you have a great chance of surviving
i think it all boils down to "more room for improvement" like you said. there are others things they can put on his skills but aren't which makes it bland and singular-purpose type.
One think can make him good is that lower his hp is faster his energy recharges and also sheild value increases according to physical dmg or hp built. This Little Thing can make him best jungler or a tank easily
1. speed of the 1st skill needs to be a lil' faster. 2. the cooldown time of the 2nd skill need to be lessen 3. i think the 3rd skill need to be revamp instead of smashing 3x ... whirlwind style lioe balmond 1st skill so it can combo for the enhanced 1st & 2nd skill.

I find it weird the Lapu's dash has a longer cooldown than other fighters, I mean it is just a simple dash.

As a Lapu-lapu main i do agree his early game damage high. The only improvement i can think of is sustaining long fights and mobility on his ultimate form. Most of the meta fighters have sustain to last long battles while lapu-lapu will gonna run out of his skills and ultimate when it comes to long fight, i think they should add some little bit of mobility on his ultimate 2nd skill + plus decrease cooldown and long lasting ultimate that can last long against sustain and tanky enemies. the reason why i want him to last long fight was because he is kind of squishy without his ultimate because of defense buff. Without his ultimate, his damage will gonna fall off real hard and his tankiness is also gone.
I agree with you Elgin. As a Lapu-Lapu main for 2-3 years I really notice that he is good in early to mid game but it cannot carry the team because his damage in the late game seems weak. That's why now I only use him rarely.
But his sustainability is in the top tier.💪

I am using Lapu Lapu as my main hero, have over 3 k matches with him.
-First of all, I did notice couple of rookie errors when Elgin played him 😛
-Second, for me, the old Lapu Lapu was undeniably perfect there is no need for revamp but ok, it is what it is.
- His passive is fair to say useless, at least they could give him critical damage when he charges with full pasive if not anything else, so, critical damage or bigger shield or nothing else but faster way to build his passive.
- And as my last opinion about this video, that very first animation when Lapu is jumping in Ult form and smashes ground, that animation is waaaay too long, and if you add time that is needed to activate ult (3 smashes) it takes forever especially that last hit, while he is in that form easy target if he jumps in team fight because he cant activate passive while his loooong timing animations end, not to mention that he can't escape once he throws himself in the fire of battle.
This is my opinion from over 3 k matches with my lovely Lapu Lapu, and I hate, just hate to see him suffers from that nerfs on his back, not to mention that moontoon forgot about some new skins for Lapu, it is such a shame god damnit
I think my future prediction below about Lapu-lapu's buffed passive will make his enhanced basic ATK more spammable:
(1) Energy gain 10 energy per hit (half from non-hero unit/s) will change to 4 energy per second (taking/dealing hits from/to each unit also gain the same amount);
(2) Requirement/s: 100 energy change to 50/100 energy (if any);
(3) Revamped effect: 250(+65*Hero Lv) Shield change to restores 5/10% Max HP(scale with used energy);
(4) Physical DMG dealt: 150% Physical ATK change to 126(1*Hero Lv)(110% Extra Physical ATK)~152(2*Hero Lv)(120% Extra Physical ATK (scaled with used energy);
And (5) New effect: Enhanced Basic ATK also deals damage to enemies behind the target.
Using Lapu-Lapu is like weilding a blunt knife, so you feel like it's harder to cut things.
I've been checking him out recently and I feel the developers should work on his passive while on ult mode. Like faster rage regen during his ult, so he can make the most out of his passive skill.

Lapu was really good when he was revamped but the rise of newly released op heroes like Paquito, julian, Yin, revamped thamuz, revamped leomord pushed lapu into forgotten section.

I've been playing Lapu since 2018 even before his revamp. I'd say his old version was better. This version of Lapu has no mobility in his ult which gives him the most damage. Charging in with his ult makes you choose from his 3 skills which is just, damage, stun, or damage reduction. He has no mobility in the stance which leaves him reliant on his spellvamp and then hoping to get away if he already used all his three skills while there are other enemies chasing. In this meta, his damage is not enough to sustain himself and really needs mobility back in his ult. I'd have more to say but obviously I just preferably want his old version back lol

Yeah me too I miss the old one. The old skillset of lapu lapu is very effective in ambush the only thing that is pulling it down in the META before is the difficulty of his passive to stacks.
Oh I miss old lapulapu, I had 564 matches with him 64.5% wr, I could ambush those squishies everytime I had my ult.
I felt that
Like him just like many other forgotten fighters. They’re all either have weak dmg or week sustainability.
But honestly, compared him to all the other forgotten fighters, he definitely has a kit much better than them to be balanced in this meta like ruby, martis or yu zhong.
The only problem is that he doesn’t have a disengage skill other than his normal form 2nd skill, which would mean he’d be dead by the time his BIG sword form’s over. Maybe i’d suggest bringing his OLD 2nd skill back where it swings AND dashes, the only addition, being if it hits multiple enemies gives him the stacked dmg reduction.
So like what elgin said, he definitely needs some nerfs reverted or few buffs if moonton wants lapu2 to shine again like what they suddenly did to terizla (then completely nerfs him xd)
Elgin also pointed out that his first skill needs to be flexible when it comes to targeting, which I fully agree on. He's kit isn't bad, it's just moonton neglecting him.

I think mlbb should add a stun when lapu-lapu uses his ult because its pretty easy to escaep when you have an enemy that has a dash skill and his enchanted first skill should be faster to hit so you cant eascape :)

one of the worst things about his revamp, is the possibility to miss the first skill when the enemies are literally on the middle or a little bit close and the change on his second enchanted skill ... he lost mobility for more damage and a less safer possibility to poke the enemies, I miss his old enchanted skills especially for that dash, I think that he could regain all of his old enchanted skills expect his ult, this enchanted ult is better, maybe a knock up effect on the last strike

One of his ultimate's saving grace was the passive effect of his enhanced 2nd skill, which is damage reduction. I think in his enhanced state they should also add some movement speed and attack damage as buff to make him stronger in ultimate form at least.
He was revamped but easily forgotten because of his consecutive nerfs, and that makes his revamped skills useless
His old ult immediately gave him damage reduction on the spot which gave him engaging so much easier..All they really had to do was give him better damage in his old version to compete in today's meta...

I think if they would add true damage to lapu lapu is not a bad idea like the enhanced justice blades will deal true damage to enemies but based on their total lost hp or the final blow on lapu lapu's 3rd ultimate(while on heavy sword mode) would be a great adjustment for his damage can still follow up on enemies on late game♥️⚔️

I'm a Lapu main, the main issue here is your own play style. The past nerfs and adjustment really hit me because of my own play style. Before, I can dominate my lane at the same time go for a backup but now It's more focus on supporting teammates using his cc skills. You don't wanna make this pure damage because he's easy to kill now unlike before and you don't wanna use this on Beatrix and other marksman that can burst out enemies because Lapu-Lapu speciality is going in the middle of the team fight if he killed right before he cast all of his skills then picking it is useless. We need to adjust to use it 100% potential
i think all it is is that he needs more overall damage and also he needs an option to revert to normal normal state for skill 2, and maybe reduce amount of hits needed for passive
Passive: when the bar is full and attack a hero or non hero target lapu lapu he gain 10% of his max hp if lapu lapu is full hp he gain 5% shield
Inhans first skill: 4% faster casting and when attack a hero or non hero target with you:re basic attack after you cast the 1st skill you deal true dmg of his max dmg

revamp passive: LAPU LAPU can b picked only when your team's tank is a GODLY atlas. I mean look at tit, the atlas in solo in this match was a legend who won 80% of the team fight by himself, rest left for teammates to finish. Every ult, he caught 2+ enemies, what a CHAD!

not many people knew about it but his previous version of 2nd skill before his revamp allowed him to dash by a small distance while dealing damage

i think they can adjust his enhanced second skill. this is his main source of defense in the middle of the teamfight.
hitting enemy heroes will give him damage reduction,but what if the enemies already blinked away? it is also a melee skill and the range is quite small. i would like them to give damage reduction for non-enemy heroes hit, altho they can reduce it to half the amount of enemy heroes. this way he can still get some damage reduction when enemies moved away from him.

if you really think about it, he is doing better before his revamp which I thought was unnecessary because he already has good skill combination. But the REAL problem is that his fell down from raw damage to relying on items and it quite literally killed him especially those who don't know how to build a sustain hero and like to play him as burst
His old skills had a lot of synergy and setup too. His ult gave stun and damage reduction immediately. Which you can follow up with his ult which literally dealt half health to heroes back in that meta in just one blow. Unlike now, his damage relies on three hits in which enemies can just dodge and come back to finish Lapu off.
The only change I want now for Lapu-Lapu is that instead of a slow effect when he uses his ulti in normal sword stance, it stuns his enemies in that small circle area. This will be more than enough.
Everyone will start playing him then. Ok maybe not everyone, but majority will. Like close to 90%.
What Lapu-Lapu lacks isn't damage, but rather, armor penetration. I suggest that he receives a passive where he gains armor penetration percentage which goes up as he levels.

Yes I use a lot on Lapu-Lapu and what I want his skills is great sword fighting styled that does the first skill three damage activate skill second a dash damage third it change different skills one it shoots big massive blade second crowd control that pulls enemies towards you last one would be deadly slam that does crowd control too and his passive is breaking armor that makes everyone else too weak to trying to reduce his physical

agreed to late game damage and passive, I observe that most of my games is like this, 2 atk items 2 def items and boots, the last remaining item determines how he will become on late game, another def item, he is durable as tank with sustainability but lack dmg, if another atk item, his late game dmg can burst heroes but still to squishy (1 combo kill or ur the one ded instead, maybe adjust his basic skills or passive or add more mobility on his ulti state ( or casting speed)
He has a similar problem with martis fighter build, damage greatly falls off late game while not having that much sustain early game to compensate. Ironically both of them have anti cc + dmg reduction effect that kinda does nothing to vale's damage ult's damage, silvanna or dyroths penetration, and etc.. the skill casting is also a bit slow for anti cc + dmg reduction skills most of the time (3.martis,2.(lapu)²,1.yss is how I would rank the skill cast animation). Definitely the three need some buffs. Especially knowing that lapu and yss are heroes based on certain countries.

i remember when i first started playing ml and he quickly became my main because he was so annoying for heroes with low mobility (this was a really long time ago). now most heroes have some type of dash skill so it’s easy to escape his ult. miss old lapu and old ml
Like most comments, devs should bring back the dash in his ult's second skill. Maybe a lower damage and damage reduction received when hitting enemies will make it better.
Well, his ultimate 2nd skill gives you 20% damage reduction for every hero hit, but it's capped at 80%. The 2nd skill should have a dash like the old lapu²
Damage can be buffed. The only thing that can get you in fight or flight situations is the ult. Like what kuya elgin said, his new ult is more of a damage than a mobility. If it is used but the enemies are still alive, you have no way of escaping alive.

No, argus passive doesn't charge when receiving damage. In the description of the skills says so, but it doesn't
One thing I could suggest is to make him immune to cc effects when he cast his first skill in ultimate form, I hate it when I get to right in front of my enemies to cast my first skill in ultimate form then they'll just use a stun or knock back then either they get to escape or they just blast you with their skills until your dead

One tip for current Lapu = when the bar is full its and you're escaping its best you use the first skill instead of basic attack because aside from giving shield, it also considerably slows the enemy so you have a great chance of surviving

As a lapu lapu user,I think he is a still solid fighter and pretty easy to use but if you ask is he need an upgrade,for now I don't think so.
i think it all boils down to "more room for improvement" like you said. there are others things they can put on his skills but aren't which makes it bland and singular-purpose type.
One think can make him good is that lower his hp is faster his energy recharges and also sheild value increases according to physical dmg or hp built. This Little Thing can make him best jungler or a tank easily
