It should do well in the UK then. I stall plant some organic Tiger nuts in pots in case my local authority also regards it as a weed. I saw a UA-cam of Ghana farmers growing it as a crop.

I have a lot of it growing among the corn in my garden. Today I found out that pulling it was a big mistake. Something (bird or rabbit) has started eating my corn seedlings. I should have left more nutsedge in as cannon fodder. If the pest likes nutsedge, it would eat more of it and less of the corn. If it hates nutsedge, it might take a few bites of the wrong plant and give up. While it is an invasive weed, it might actually make a good companion plant for corn by giving the young sprouts camouflage.

So what I found over in the field about 12 yards from the stream isn't yellow nutsedge even though it looks exactly like it and has all of the characteristics

How long to get the nutlets if planted by nutlet?

In mid-spring, dormant tubers begin to sprout, forming a non-dormant basal bulb near the soil surface. From this bulb, shoots emerge from late spring to early summer. Subsequent shoots, emerging later, mainly originate from upturned rhizomes. Over time, these rhizomes thicken to produce more basal bulbs and aboveground shoots. This process of shoot formation persists throughout the growing season. While seed germination occurs in spring, seedlings are exceptionally rare.
You'll have to let us know how it goes!

So chufa and yellow nutsedge are the same? I tried doing my own research but then read somewhere that people just group the two together, so does that mean that they are different? Or is chufa just the name for the larger ones that have been cultivated while the wild ones stay named nutlets?

Consensus is chufa and yellow nutsedge are one and the same (cultivated varieties have been selected for larger tubers) Hope that helps and if you need a citation let us know...thanks for subscribing
