Since we are revisiting the 80’s with this hot and a new Top Gun movie, another song that deserves a listen these days is Take my Breath Away by Berlin. These songs are time machines that can transport you to another time with their sonic melodies and for those who didn’t live it, it will still transport you to a nice simple place

I was about 8 when this song came out and remember it all over US radio. I liked it...but thought it was kind of weird and the "barking dog synths" as I used to call them annoyed me.
I'm still a huge 80's music fan, though in my teens and 20's I really got into classic rock (60's and 70's) as well as 90's grunge/alt that was popular in high school.
But in my 30's I started "nostalgiaing" as I say and went back and started listening to so much "cheesy" 80's pop/rock/metal from my childhood, revisiting barely remembered songs, full albums, and even discographies from supposed "one hit wonders" that turned out to have many great songs or even albums (just two: Alphaville's *Forever Young* is one hell of a great album with every song a near classic, and A Flock of Seagulls first self titled album is fantastic with many classic tracks), as well as even discovering new-to-me groups (especially in the soul/rnb/funk/rap genres).
So I sat down and listened to all of Kate Bush's output, from '78's *The Kick Inside* to '11's *50 Words for Snow*, about 5 years ago and...while she's still not quite my thing (like Laurie Anderson I find her a little too experimental or "out there" for my taste in pop or pop rock; I like experimental jazz or ambient, but not pop/pop rock), I recognize her as a unique talent and when I'm in the mood I do really like many of her songs and will even listen to a full album every so often. My favorite is probably '89's The Sensual World.

I wasn't around in the 80s but about 20 years ago my mum introduced me to Kate Bush when I was young. She had all her LPs and I used to listen to them all the time. Even though I was born in the 90s, the 80s has such a massive amount of nostalgia for me, even though I never actually got to live through it. I guess it was close enough that you still heard the music even in the 90s.

Atlantic/East West Records also seems to have styled and produced Tori, both with Y Kant Tori Read and Little Earthquakes to physically and sonically resemble Kate, and that's a shame because she was thought by many Kate Bush fans to be an inferior imitator. Tori is an exceptional, extraordinary and insightful artist in her own right, and comparisons between the two are legitimate but almost entirely superficial. They're very little alike when you listen to them except that they are similarly singular visionary artists whose music is steeped in wonder and empathy.

I wasn't quite 12 years old when this song was released. I've always loved this track, and it was pure perfection for the "Dear Billy" scene. Sadie Sink should get an award for those few moments with Vecna if she never gets an award for anything else - best episode of Stranger Things EVER, and the young cast continue to blow my mind.

I have been a fan since her first album in the 1970s when I heard it as a kid at school. She is a one of a kind . It's so great she has had this exposure in Stranger Things !!! Brought her beautiful music to a whole new generation!

I discovered Kate Bush through the Hounds of Love album when I was 11 in 1984. It was the year my father died suddenly and Cloudbusting helped me through. Seeing Kate play live at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2014 from the middle of the 4th row was so emotional. I thought she wouldn't play Cloudbusting when the concert ended ..but she came back and sung it for the encore...an experience I will never forget.
Hounds of Love was released in the days well before Spotify when we would listen to whole albums. I always imagined the story she was telling on the Hounds of Love from start to finish and her live performance was exactly how I imagined - "And Dream of Sheep" was so powerful - in fact, many powerful moments in that show that I will always feel privileged to have experienced.
Kate's music got me through the toughest time of my life and will always be in my heart

@@ek3942 thank for you for the kind correction. I was still grieving for my father as a 11/12 year old so got the release date a little wrong. As this seems important to you, I didn't say that I was listening the actual day that he died, simply that this music got me through that first year so I guess she released Hounds of Love just when I needed it. Over 40 years have passed so I can surely be forgiven for the memories blending somewhat.
