I think it may be a spoiler for people who don't play League so I'd just say it a sort of a list,
      List here :
      - Game version on Ekko, Viktor, Vander and you might have not noticed, the doctor that Vktor was talking to, Singed, making it in the show
      - Hextech weapon upgrades
and New characters from the game that has a connection to Piltover and Zaun

I know that Heimerdinger is adorable and genuinely well-meaning, but everythingt that Jayce said about him *is* true. He's been a leader of those cities for a *very* long time. When Vander fought on the bridge and Vi and Powder's parents were killed, Heimerdinger was one of the ones in charge. When Silco flooded the lanes with Shimmer, addicting people and making things even worse, Heimerdinger was one of the people in charge... and he probably was happily going to his operas and such the whole time. Jayce's frustration was with him blocking progress, and yes his version of progress was reckless, but Heimerdinger's version of inaction was damningly negligent. People suffered under Heimerdinger, and fixing that was never an urgent need for him because he had the luxury of time and the idea that in the future, they'd work it out. Only generations of real people would live, suffer and die before that.

Also Silco is a response to Heimerdinger's leadership. He doesn't gain power and maintain it if Shimmer is a greater hope than his leadership. They are willing to consume deadly drugs to stand a chance in a fight. That shows how desperate things are. Think about all of Silco's long speaches to the chem barons. Every time he mentions the DISGUSTING conditions they were in and how they fought to survive. Silco isn't fully evil he does aspire to free his people. That being said his results are fully evil...

He did care for jinx. That’s no question. People apparently don’t know Vi was like re-truamatizing her by making her remember all the people she killed. Thats why they were monsters. Silco saw what it was doing to jinx and he broke out and grabbed the gun cuz she wouldn’t stop. Then powder instinctively reacted to protect her sister.

      or
      (a different perspective.)
When Jinx shot Silco and accidentally killed him. It could also be that Silco believes Jinx chose Violet.
So in summary, Silco states that Jinx is perfect whether it is Powder or Jinx. Silco may have thought Jinx killed him on purpose. (to protect her sister)
Because in reality it was an accident.

@@n0bleonline222I definitely agree with this interpretation. Silco gives Jinx the genuine advice to let powder die in order to make herself mentally stronger and not be dragged down by her past, just as Silco did when Vander betrayed him.
However, in the scene previous when Silco speaks to the statue of Vander, I think he realises that he never actually let his old self die, not fully anyway. That’s why regardless of the choice Jinx makes, in Silco’s eyes she is perfect, because she’s just the way she is.

Silco is an example of a bad person who tried to be a good father. Like every character in this series there’s depth to his character as he first is so tunnel visioned in his dream of a free Zaun and him not understanding why Vander would choose a peaceful route instead of continuing to fight. Only later on when he becomes a father and he’s forced with the literal decision of giving up his daughter or realizing his dream does he truly understand Vander. He realized that as Vander chose peace and stopped pushing for his desire for a free Zaun in order to keep his adopted kids safe, now Silco is in an impossible situation where he wants his dream but not at the expense of loving his adopted daughter Jinx. There’s no point to having a free Zaun when you have no one to be free with. That and the fact that due to trauma of being abandoned and betrayed he cannot lose Jinx. He’s constantly shown as being deeply afraid of losing her whether via being captured by police, Jinx possibly leaving him to go be with Vi or by her dying, we see how he acts and reacts to these possibilities with fear. He couldn’t give her up, not for anything, even if that means giving up the dream he had his entire life. Love him, hate him, but at least we can empathize with why he feels the way he does and it’s partly what makes him such a powerful character

But if you look at it from the perspective of Powder/Jinx, then not only did she loose her father figure but she also lost the one person that could actually accept her for who she is now. Silco most definitely loved Jinx and saw her as his daughter. When Jayce demanded to get Jinx, Silco finally realised exactly why Vander was willing to give up on their shared dream of a united underground standing as an independent nation (Zaun). Like he said when he was sitting at Vanders' statue; "Is there anything as undoing as a daughter?". Silco wasn't going to give her up for his dream - just like Vander who quit their dream for his 4 adoptive kids.
It's important to remember that, as evil as Silco is, he is still human with a human heart.
He was betrayed by someone he considered his brother, which initially stopped everything he had worked for. In Jinx he saw a mirror of himself, which is why he takes her in and came to love her, being very protective of her. Shimmer is awful and creates a class divided society in the underground, but it was created as a tool to fight Piltover and force the city to recognize Zaun, as they were obviously not interested in governing it properly, only control it.
Silco was ruthless and a murderer but his goal was always for the betterment of the underground - he was ready to shut down Shimmer production instantly in exchange for sovereignty.

He also finally hit his line. At the beginning of the show he said “power comes to those willing to do ANYTHING to take it”. His power was that he was always willing to cross the next line - lying, cheating, stealing, killing, threatening peoples families, exploiting children - ANYTHING. But when Jayce asked for Jinx - that was the first and the only time he hit a line he wouldn’t cross for his power, and it was ultimately his undoing.

There’s so much to everyone, and it bothers me when people either don’t want to take the nuance, or take it for some, but not for others.

I think one of the most interesting parts of Silcos character is the fact that he basically gaslights himself into believing things that arent true just so he can hold onto something important. When he was telling JInx how Vi wouldn't love her the same as before he actually thought that was true, because he was desperate.
He was afraid of losing another person that he cares for and became almost manic (or atleast more manic than usual lmao) because of it.
JInx's situation is actually pretty similar, and when she killed Silco she killed the only person who fully understood her, sure Vi loves her so so much but she doesn't have the capabilities to connect with Jinx anymore (unless she finally lets go of the past and realises that Jinx wont just change back to Powder).

Silco is fiercely loyal to his people in the undercity of Piltover, which some might argue is a commendable trait. Heimerdinger, while intelligent, often prioritizes his own inventions and experiments over the well-being of the undercity residents. While Heimerdinger may be a genius inventor, his focus on innovation sometimes blinds him to the suffering of those in the undercity. Silco's leadership, though ruthless, ensures the undercity's survival.

One thing that is frequently missed in this series is that Piltover is the oppressive force of the series. We know it in the first 2 episodes then promptly forget by the end of episode 3. Silco wouldn't have a following if it weren't for dangerous work conditions forced by Piltover, an oppressive heavily armed police force dominating the people, and a leadership that cares NOTHING for the plight of the people down there. By the end we look at Heimerdinger as a good guy but he's the cause of it all ...

One of a few reactions where Silco's death is cheered. That's probably because of the assumption that he is a villain or bad guy.
As for me that was one of the most heartbreaking scenes, and not just because of Jinx losing her third father figure, but because of the death of one of the kindest people in this show(he is trying to act like rigid, cruel person, but he is too bad at it, too merciful and nonviolent).
Of course, at first watch, it is totally normal to confuse heroes and villains here. My attitude towards them changed afterward: my respect to Sevika grew, while opinion on Mel has gotten worse(too many mistakes for good polititian).

I keep seeing people say Silco isn't a villain, and I'm sorry but that's absolutely false. He definitely is a villain (though not the only villain of the show). Silco's very demeanor, the way he treats people, and how he threatens to kill children, are all villain traits. Heimerdinger on the other hand does not qualify as a villain, contrary to a what a lot of people seem to think in this comments section. Villains are defined by ill will and the means by which they achieve things, not by negligence.

Honestly, the season ended beautifully when you really look at it deeply. The perfect representation of how the lower class is always set destroy themselves thanks to the neglect and even active support of the upper class... and when the upper class FINALLY tries to do something to help because the lower class has organized (and only does because they are threatened then bargained with, mind you), they still need to take far too much time discussing, politicking, jumping through beurecratic hoops to try and make any sort of headway... but it was too late. They failed their citizens years ago. Everything that happened is a direct fault of the system and society they created. Jinx is a representation of all the rage and trauma that the people of Zaun have built up for decades, far too fed up with the life they had been dealt. We as viewers do not get the satisfaction of seeing the aftermath immediately because the sheer hopelessness would not have hit us the same way if there had been one.

In a sense I think she was still stuck in the past, relieving the trauma, not moving forward because she couldn't do it in prison, away from actual human interaction. The moment she left prison she was free and able to observe the change that has taken place around her but not within her, at least not as much. In season 2 I think (or I hope at least) we will see how the outside world keeps affecting her and the ways she will have to adabt while probably fighting a lot of prison ptsd and the guilt of not saving her sister.

The best way to explain it is with pets like big dogs. You know they will die before you do and there's nothing you can do to prevent that. Of course your really sad when it happens but you get a new one afterwards and the cycle repeats. Heimy sees human like that. Viktor dying is sad but he doesn't really care because it would happen anyway. Same for all the other people, including those of the Undercity. It's not evil, he just doesn't care. It's part of why I love reactions to "Arcane" so much and why so many reactors I follow I discovered through this series (or "Firefly"). But I am not complaining about the long wait for the next season either. It took them six years to make this season, and it's one of the _best_ single seasons of a series I've ever seen. They set such a high bar for themselves, I'm willing to wait as long as I need to wait if they can reach or exceed that level of quality again in Season Two. Even with the time they've had, I'm genuinely worried that the next season will be a letdown just because they did such amazing things with this season. I'm not convinced they can keep up this level of quality. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I'm trying to manage my expectations (and avoid spoilers at all costs). Thank you for this season's reaction! Basically the main cast are mostly League champions (playable characters), Viktor, Jayce, Caitlyn, Vi, Jinx, Ekko, Heimerdinger, and Singed (bald scientist/Viktor's mentor). The story is all original and deviates so far from the "original canon" that this is basically its own universe, but definitely still stays true with what has already been established and is actually continuing things that were hinted in game (The CaitxVi ship has been a thing for like 9 years now, ever since Vi was first released)
That being said Riot can simply just say fk it and integrate this lore into the original canon. Reason why it's not the original canon is that some of the character's ages and adventures are all over the place, and it'd be hard to make them all connect coherently, remember that League is a 13 year old game with just under 170 champions all in their own regions in the world with different power dynamics, power systems, societies, and cultures, Piltover and Zaun is actually the closest thing we have to reality in the lore
The lore tells the major events and various fates of the characters. An example here being when a certain champion first meets Jinx in game, he tells her "Faces fading in the flames. It was all her fault" this voice line was added in 2018 and we only got the explanation through Arcane. So a lot of gears are already turning and the game with its lore are used as the blueprint so just do not to look up anything about the actual champions in League and season 2 in general.

Silko is not psychopatic murderer. He is extremly ruthless leader with "ends justyfying means" approach - can call him "evil" but not evil for evil sake. And he could be the "best of all evils" - his strategy had quite a good chance of success and he maintainted some kind of peace. Alternatives were full subjugation to Piltover with no prospect of freedom, rule of completly self-interested warlords like chem barons or finally, revolutionaries and chaos mongers like Jinx with full scale war.
Finally - death of Silco breaks a chance for peace. He would not get Jinx, but it was just part of the first offer. In negotiation this kind of demand is usually not essential one and he propably could buy it out with some tradeoffs.
His death is good for a story, concluding quite a few arcs, we could say it is good fate for evil person, but it also is tragedy for Jinx, breaking her last reason to try and propably very negative thing for Zaun population (and possibly Piltover too)

I think it’s fascinating to read the comments of all the Silco-is-an-evil-groomer types. This perspective requires completely ignoring all kinds of contradictory evidence in the show, both obvious and subtle; not to mention weird pretzels of circular logic. And if you try to point out any of this, you can count on a saliva-flecked rage-filled denunciation in reply. It’s odd, because the only other character that even distantly approaches this level of audience polarization is Vi. Which is even more fascinating, because Silco and Vi are quite similar in many ways. There are several fleeting, subtle shots in the show that openly imply this similarity. Silco and Vi could very easily have been allies.
I would go so far as to suggest that this was Silco’s goal when he captured Vander; there’s plenty of evidence that he had no intention of killing Vi or the kids.
I fully expect a saliva-flecked rage-filled denunciation for saying all this; which is fine. Ultimately, the fact that Arcane has sparked this degree of emotional reactions speaks to how relevant and human this story truly is; the craft and care from the writers and animators is just…stunning. Despite the long wait for season 2, the universal sentiment I see from Arcane fans seems to be: “Riot, for the love of all that is holy, please don’t rush this! Don’t ruin what you’ve begun with these characters and this story and this world!”
It’s all a fascinating example of what good storytelling is capable of…

I'm a student in 3D animation and if you're wondering why the vilain are mostly build with sharp angles, the reason is :
In character design we use 3 basic forms:
    Square, Triangle, Circle
each represent a type of personnality that is refleted in the way they look:
Squarish character (like Vander or Stoic from httyd) are Solid, Sturdy, Strong, Supportive, Reliable, Inflexible
Triangle (like Silco or Jafar in Aladdin) are Sharp, directional, Dynamic, Dangerous, Unpredictable (elongating them makes them more scary)
Round characters (like Claggor or Heimerdinger) are soft, harmless, approchable
You can also mix shapes to give more ideas about the character
Vi for example is both squarish but also triangle (especially her jaw) since she's both reliable but also sharp and quick!
    Hope this helps 😁

Mel is so dead, her arc kind of completed when she rejected her family's war-mongering ways at the end there. It'll be great motivation for Jayce moving forward, and her death will also make Mel's mom a PROBLEM in season 2.
I think Cait's mom is for sure dead too, because that would be great motivation for Caitlin.

I really think people need to re-evaluate what the actual situation was prior to the rebellion at the start of the show. Heimerdinger, leading the council of Piltover, led Piltover to pollute Zaun's waters and air, to create a caste system with elites and underlings, to prohibit trade routes from being used by Zaun. Heimerdinger is a totalitarian abuser, not a "goodie". He's the REAL villain. Sure, Silco's methods were harsh, but look at history, children worked in munitions factories in nearly every European country during war. He's a flawed man, but he's nowhere near the bad guy. Vander was a traitor and sellout who condemned future children to bear what he wouldn't because he was weak. Did he think that Zaunites would just keep being Piltover's underclass happy breathing in their pollution?

If you think about it Jinx might really be a jinx. In the final moments of the finale, the council finally agreed to establish Zaun's independence, just for Jinx to blow it up with her rocket. Potentially starting another war between Piltover & Zaun. I also can't see Mal's mother not seeking retribution for the potential death of her daughter.
Earlier in the show, they mention how Hextech may be capable of thinking/adapting and during the fight scene with Jayce and Vi, I'm pretty sure we see Jayce's hammer produce a shield to protect him. Because of that, there's a theory that Viktor, Jayce, and maybe Mal might survive. Since Viktor had his hammer with him during the final scenes, and Viktor is still connected to the Hexcore.
Finally, in those last few moments where we cut to all the different characters, on Singed's (Mad Scientist guy). We can see someone hanging above him. It's theorized that it's Vander, and Singed is experimenting on him.
Also, Jinx designed the rocket as a shark because that was Silco's favorite animal.

I don't understand why people only dislike silco. Maybe people's perception of Silco changes based on how they grew up and lived. For me while i haven't grown up poor per se I'm definitely lower on the food chain money wise. In my eyes while Silco is most certainly not a good person he did what he had to do to gain independence for the undercity. While Shimmer is something that needs to be regulated it also improved many people's lives in my eyes. Idk I see why everyone in and from the undercity did what they did. Victor taking that final step he refused to cross because it was in his eyes the only way to improve his health. Most disabled people (me included) understand and have felt that before. Again idk how everyone else sees all those characters.

There are characters they can't kill, they're not who you think, they did really good job of giving detail to characters in the game and characters not in the game, so if you've never played the game, you really don't know who is safe and who isn't.

I would say that Jayce has a believable and understandable emotional response to events he encountered. Jinx attacked and stole gemstone? He tighten their security. Jinx killed a lot of enforcers? He’s enraged and ready to go to war. His actions led to the death of a child? He immediately backpedals, understanding what Mel said. Problem is that all he did was reacting instead of being proactive. But it’s not his fault when actions should have been taken long before he became councillor

I think you kind of accidentally agreed with Jayce's move to take Heimer off the council. When Heimer was so sad and wandering in the undercity and you asked "So what is he banished? Does he have to live down here?", no, he isn't banished, but "down there" is still part of the city that he has presided over for like a hundred years. That awful undercity filled with crime and drugs developed under his leadership, and he is supposed to be responsible for those citizens as well. But he didn't do anything about it for generations, because he was content being slow, safe, and scholarly. You agreed with the sentiment shortly after when Jayce accidentally killed the kid, "We've abandoned these people, do something about it." That's *exactly* why I think Heimer deserved to be ousted from leadership, he's been in charge since the inception of the nation.
That's actually why I love this show thow. Even though I think Heimer was a bad leader, he is a *good person*, a sweet little man full of curiosity and care. The directly evil characters even are completely understandable for their motivations with the lives they've lead. Nobody is pure black or white, and I LOVE it.

The Voice actors really popped off in the final episodes, especially Ella Purnell as Jinx! So much pain and turmoil in her voice
also Few scenes hit hard if you know lore or dissect them that I really like:
-Ekko vs Jinx end of the fight - close childhood friends, Ekko has lines that he had feelings for her, and her smiling before dropping the grenade as she's in "clear thoughts" and a super quick sound queue that sounds like metal being hit, hinting at the grenade being kicked away by Ekko.
-Vi and Caitlyn scene on the bed, Vi's story lines up with her being the monster that showed up before she ran away. She hates what she did to Powder, but she also doesn't know how to approach or fix things because she's never learned how to deal with anything except to punch things and has been in jail for so long.
-Viktor running for the first time, out pacing the boats in the background when in his past he couldn't catch the toy boat.

Hey I just wanted to comment on how you were saying Vi hadn't changed much since being in prison all those years. I was stuck in a violent abusive relationship for 6 years and still retained who I was at my core -- this does not happen for everyone, but with the right mental fortitude and a strong sense of self it can. I was prepared for that relationship through a very turbulent childhood in which I watched my mother be subjected to abuse and was also subjected to abuse as well as a child. We were also homeless living on the streets for a year, and I was also bullied badly in middle school. These things shaped my character in a way that allowed me the ability to still essentially remain myself under extreme conditions. Vi not changing much is just a testament to her toughness and her strong personality. She was already prepared for the hell of prison through the loss of their parents, the fights she was getting into as a teen, and then of course what happened in episode 3. Plus she was brought up by Vander, whose influence has had MASSIVE impact on who she is. To me it is believable character writing.

Vi got lucky with Jayce. She's the better fighter, by far...but her gloves aren't weapons. And she doesn't really know how they work. Jayce has a device DESIGNED as a weapon, and he knows what it does (because he fuckin built it...AND her gloves). Vi is basically bringing a knife to a gunfight, in that instance. She didn't stand a chance if he'd actually pushed the issue.
That said, there was never any chance that Jayce was going to actually do it, not after just killing a child. It was everything he could muster not to just vomit right there. Killing that kid destroyed him. As it should, anyone. Vi's rationalization of it is really pretty disgusting, honestly. She's not explicitly incorrect about it, but she basically did exactly what she hates Silco for. Silco does some evil shit, but he's got a reason...possibly even a good-enough reason. It doesn't make what he does right or acceptable, but it makes sense. Vi...just wants her sister back, and wants revenge on Silco. That's it. And she's apparently willing to steamroll children who get in her way. To me, that's just worse.

Haha I also recommended Arcane to my brother... I had to bugger him for a year plus to watch it. Eventually we watched it together with my family and he said he liked it and recommended it to somebody else. I think a lot of people are turned off by it being an animation and a game show (those notoriously work out well) but you can watch it completely without knowing any of the characters.
This show has been through every react channel under the sun and left a big impact I feel. To this day I search for new reactors, no other show has left me with this sort of obsession that's for sure. When season 2 drops, now that we know what kind of quality to expect... shit's gonna blow up and you can't avoid it. The show is just so unique and cool and there's literally nothing like it.

I think it makes sense that Vi's personality hadn't really changed much the entire time she's been in prison.
She's been in the same old cell for around 7 years with nothing really changing in that cell & prison. And so, she also doesn't change. Powder & what happened is all she could think of while stuck in there. No closure at all.
I can't explain it well but her time in prison has this metaphor of stasis & stagnation, which fits in super well with the prison being called Stillwater!! Stagnation! Omg, I just realized that while typing this. So, the outside world had changed so much while everything inside the prison hadn't.

Shimmer is shown to be “bad” but it’s not entirely bad. In small amounts, it has healing properties and can strengthen organic matter, like people. After all, that is the whole point of it, just pushed to an extreme.
Also, disappointed you skipped over Viktor’s “We failed to do good” quote, and Silco’s final words to Jinx showing his great character arc closing, but good reaction over all.

  • @pazz
    @pazz Рік тому +1

Okay so, the half-burned man. He is known by the name of "Singed", he's the one that gave Viktor the Shimmer (purple stuff) and the one that saved Powder's life after her fight with Ekko.
We met him pre-burn in the first three episodes. He is the creator of Shimmer. You may remember him as the man who was with Silco at the end of the first episode, when they tested Shimmer on the rat. In the third episode, he was in the warehouse when Powder's bomb went off, thus, the burns.
In terms of his "daughter", I assumed he was referring to Rio, that giant axolotl-looking thing from Viktor's backstory. Singed raised Rio, and kept her alive when she was sick and dying. Of course, keeping Rio alive, meant mutating her further and further until she was barely recognizable. Now kept on the brink of life, motionless, floating in a stasis tank. One can assume that Shimmer comes from Rio herself, or is a result of Singed's experimentation, as he tried & found ways to keep her alive.
So, When Singed said to Silco "I too, once had a daughter" I figured, he was saying he knows the pain of seeing a "daughter" change, become corrupted, right before your eyes, he spared Silco from watching the horrible process Powder had to go through for her life to be spared.

Heimerdinger very much DID deserve to be chucked out of the council. He was complacent, living in an ivory tower, and ruled over under city of Zaun's decay. He was ignorant of the undercity's welbeing; whether he was willfully ignorant or otherwise is irrelevant. Due to his position, cuteness does not excuse the incompetent stewardship of half the city. He does deserve a redemption, but he so deserved to be yeeted from his position.

Side note on Singed: We don’t actually know for sure what the line, “I too once had a daughter,” will mean for the lore. We don’t know who is Singed’s daughter is based on the lore we have, it’s thought to be a girl named Orianna (a league of legends champion), but we already know who her father is so it’s unlikely that Singed is talking about her.
