      Were there even any 32" 4k QD OLED monitors out already? Color fringing would be less of an issue on a 4k 32" display because of how small the pixels are, the size of the color fringe would be like half as big as a qhd display of the same size
      There are TVs out with second gen QD-OLED panels like Samsung S95C and Sony A95L

    Very nice panels. even though I love my ultrawide, superultrawides are just too much for me, in fact I'd rather just get a bigger 16:9 screen again like something between 31-42" but the ones of that size on the market today either are just OLED and not QD-OLED, and also do not support hdmi2.1 (so I can 4k without compression), so I'm waiting for the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM which will come in Q1 2024, with this same panel technology, a 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor, very hyped.

    • @jamescampbell8482

      @@humanbass 500 frames per second is relevant for your persistence of vision. An OLED that runs at 480 frames per second will have a frame visibility time of 2 ms per frame. That is going to allow motion clarity that approaches old-school picture tube displays. That’s why you want that high FPS so that you can scan the panel out super quickly and benefit from extra motion clarity. Not to drive anything at 480 frames per second natively, because that would be insane.
      Those high frames per second let these newer flat panels behave the way our old TVs used to, which is good for retro Contant, as well as actually benefiting from the resolution that we have in today’s content.

      It is a shame how BFI in OLEDs is so overlooked and underrated. One reason I believe is that if everything is not set-up perfectly, the benefits are not visible. So a lot of people "try" BFI in the wrong way and give up on it. Panel refresh rate (Hz) and the content fps must both be exactly the same and locked, including v-sync. Then the "magic" happens. As much as I love my Ultra Wide panel, I'm not going any "wider". The strech on the sides is just getting too intense for me. Especially in fast pasted shooter games the contents on the outer sides move so fast that it's distracting. Really shame Nvidia didn't manage to get their destretching software onto the market. If stretch wouldn't be a thing anymore, I would get such a monitor in an instant. (Well it also would needs to have no or very minimal curve as games usually don't compensate for that either. Not fun having lanes in a moba game being distorted)

      Honestly, it's not as bad as you think. I've had ultra wide for over 5 years now and most games support the rez. Especially FPS. The only games that don't are typically pixel based or older JRPG/remakes. Plus you can just get a tool that fixes it for the majority that lack it. Great if you use it for work and gaming.

      @@mariuszszewczyk2277the root poster also uses ultra wide, and it is as bad as you think and is even worse. This is because almost no games and no GPU accelerator vendors support compensating of the graphics for the curvature of the curvy screen, so in most games you get distorted experience. A solution would be to switch to a flat ultra wide.

      @@tatianaes3354 interesting, I haven't thought about the effect of the image compensating for the curvature. The curved ultrawides I had never made me feel like something was amiss, but I do understand wanting a pure experience. Wouldn't adjusting my FOV help with this? ASUS and OLEDs. A combination that always fails. Every OLED TV and OLED monitor from ASUS has severe problems in HDR (wrong EOTF and/or broken colors). They also tend to never fix the issues and move on to the next project. A shame for the requested prices...

      The HDR issues with the ASUS PG42UQ were finally fixed with firmware update v040 in July. Took them 10 months but at least they came through in the end I guess. Hopefully they are gaining more experience with OLED/HDR so as to not bork up future models.

    • @groundreaper9421

      @@watkinsjason The PG27AQDM still has completely broken colors in HDR where the color yellow looks like mustard and the colors orange and red are extremely saturated. ASUS refuses to acknowledge this as a problem and recommends to downgrade the firmware to fix the oversaturated colors. I tried it and the problem is even worse + EOTF is only correctly tracked on the current MCM104 firmware.
      I regret that I switched my AW3423DWF for this monitor. The only advantage of the ASUS is a higher refresh rate and a bit higher brightness in SDR. The ASUS is practically an SDR only monitor at the moment because HDR looks 10x worse than SDR. This shouldn’t be the case with a OLED. :(

    If there is unavoidable flicker with VRR then what's the point of using it? Does this flicker only occur in the menus, or does it occur in gaming as well?

    • @thatguy7595
      @thatguy7595 7 місяців тому +1

      It happens to OLEDs only under certain circumstances when the FPS swings rapidly (ie there is stutter) and is most visible on dark colors. So when you change from a 100 fps game to a low fps loading screen, there is going to be flicker. Likewise if the game is dark and poorly optimized then it can flicker in-game as well. The other 99% of the time it's fine though, depending on what you play.
