Can you please do a video on food, as you mentioned? I'm planning to do a 7-10 day trip next summer in Northen BC, and I had no idea you could dehydrate your own food!? Just discovered you recently, and I've fallen in love with your vibe! Thanks for all the amazing content 😁💜🇨🇦
What I like about this channel is that she is not obsesed with expensive and fancy equipment , just what works and feels comfortable , plus she is the prettiest outdoor girl ever !!!
You inspired me and my spouse to do a little day adventure into nearby woods and make a little campfire, it was lovely and relaxing. All your content is great :)
This is amazing!!! So happy to hear it! Happy adventuring!
I'd love to see some food dehydration how to's from start to finish.
So would I :-)
dehydration is pretty good for storage. If you really wanna save food look into freeze drying. Yes diy freeze drying can be costly to get started but once you have freeze dried a meal it'll keep for literally decades. Here are a couple links that have decent information:
this guy at Canadian Prepper has a great sense of humor this is about diy dehydration

Yes... please do a food video.
Me too!!
From my experience, dehydrating foods can remove over 90% of the weight. A real game changer, if you are carrying all your food on a trip. (40 lbs down to less than 4 lbs!) And likely about a 90% reduction in volume also. A win-win on both fronts.
Great to see you again Careena! It's awesome to see all of your canoe gear in detail with links for easy shopping.
Down jacket and clean warm socks. Thats what I took from this video. Everyone's favourite bits after a long days paddling 😊 Love seeing a good kit video. Was good to watch, thanks 😊
Dry suit most certainly the ONLY thang to wear when paddling my sea kayak. At least here on the West Coast of Scotland where it rains 300 days a year! It takes a brave man or woman to wear a wetsuit, even in the summer!
Just bought the biolite headlamp and tested it out in my house.. I get 40 hours to a charge .. def on my favourites list now! Thanks so much for all the advice and help .. I’m headed out on a 7 day solo next week and your video reminded me that I can still scale down my pack some more.
Thats awesome! Have a great trip!
Another nice video. Good tips and good logic. I would like to add line your dry bag with a contractors trash bag. Why? You alluded to a canoe dump and a wet down jacket. A sealed contractors bag gives one an extra layer of waterproof protection for that down bag and parka. (Experience on a canoe trip above the Arctic Circle) As an advocate of leave no trace may I humbly suggest that toilet paper be burned in the cat hole to accelerate decomposition. May I also strongly recommend that ALL soap use be performed away from any waterway. Biodegradable soap particles do not break down well in a lake or stream but only in a terrestrial environment. And if someone downstream chooses to use water from the same source one bathed in, purification none withstanding, they are using the byproduct of that washing. Good tips: keep up the good work.
Very practical advice! I enjoyed this. I don't make the kinds of epic trips that you and Ryan do, but I also appreciate gear that works, and I'm also at a stage where I really don't need much more than I have. I'm also amazed at how heavy most people pack on canoe trips so it's nice to see someone else who's weight-conscious (and volume-conscious) regarding the stuff they bring along.
Great video! Love your focus on gear that is cost-effective and very purposeful. I'm slowly working towards shaving down my pack weight where I can, without breaking the bank, and you've given some great tips!
A very useful overview of the gear that you have used and tested. The shopping links in the video Description are very convenient. Thanks!
My wife and myself are planning a trip by Harley Davidson so the right gear is gonna be the tipping point...Great show, do your own thing you and your man!! Take care.
Thanks for all your hard work! And taking us with and teaching us. Even in this gear video you just flow through it all. Great job. Enjoyed it.
Very informative, thank-you. I tend to be a "kitchen sink" packer and struggle to pack light.
Haha I gave up packing heavy when I started doing long portages!
Thanks for the saw over ax tip!! Bleed Stop is essentially important while camping alone!
Excellent video, me and my wife really enjoy watching your videos. My wife says, you have a very gentle spirit and I agree. Thank you!
Awe thank you for the support and kind words!!
Gotta love a good canoe trip!!! And Gear!!!!
Amen!
Please do a food video, would love to see what you take. This video was so helpful to me as I’m new to kayaking! Many thanks ♥️♥️
Great content, my kids and I get a kick out of your videos, about the only thing we carry extra is a slingshot, and that spices up things up quickly and doubles for self defense. Acquiring and testing gear definitely takes time and patience. Thank you for your time!!!
Haha nice! Thanks for watching!
I would love to see a full food video! I'm always curious how other people pack lighter to camp/canoe.
Its cool to see the different types of gear people use or dont use. Im not that experienced but really like the whole tarping or building a shelter idea...Thx for the awesome vid.
Great to have you back! I love your minimalist approach. I wish I had the self discipline. But I am afraid I have gadgetitis!🤣Please give Griz🐕a pat for me❣
Another great video 👌loving the gear. I really need a sleep pad and smaller sleeping bag. I made the mistake of buying a one person tent that explodes in the air, knocks you out and then you can't get it back into the case again. I am madly in love with your little one person canoe. I've been wanting to grab a kayak, but that canoe is a major game changer. 😁
Hahah those quick tents are dangerous 😂
Love gear videos. Thanks Careena.
Excellent video! Very informative, well spoken. You have inspired me to pack less for our glamping trips!!
As always, love the videos Careena!! Keep em' comin!
Thanks Trevor!
Getting all your gear in a 55 l pack is excellent. Your advice re carrying an axe is very good. People have to realize the most dangerous thing on a canoe trip is themselves. So few people have any experience splitting wood for a wood stove or fireplace.
Hey Thanks man. Nice to hear from ya!
@@careenaalexis No problem . Hey found a borrower of my langford nahanni. She posted on CCR about a used canoe for solo trips and even tandem. Heck she picked it up Sept 13 and i haven't seen it since. Likes its tracking ability and speed. All my friends say she will never return it. But i trust in our community of real canoers. Am i right?
Thanks for the info. 😁 It's always good when someone's gone through all the different gear and you can then just piggyback off their experience. 😂
Great video. Always cool to see another’s ideas on things. Looking forward to your next one. Hope you and fam are keeping well.
Thanks for the video. My dad and I are planning a seven day trip through the Missouri breaks next spring/summer and this was very helpful. Totally agree about the pillow. I haven’t found the “perfect” inflatable pillow that is actually comfortable. Clothes bag all the way.
Glad you are back!
Yes! Food episode please! We are heading into boundary waters Minnesota this fall for our first weeklong canoe trip and I am dehydrating natural food from home and creating our meals! I thought I was the only one… Please share your tips and tricks for wholesome healthy natural food on the trail. Thank YOU!!
well done, glad you got your place just in time
I wanted you to know that I enjoy your videos, and you friend Grizz! He is such a great friend! I just started watching your videos, and the ice hockey game was fun to watch.
Thanks.
Haha awesome thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying them!
hi, hope you and your family are doing well. great to see you back making outdoor vids!
kind regards.
Also - I'm from Ontario! I've spent many summers in the Kawartha area - Haliburton/West Guilford in particular! Also been on a few canoe trips in the area. I love it, you material is super inspiring. A friend and I are currently planning an Algonquin trip, I searched 'canoe trips for women' for tips and tricks for our trip and you came up first! Glad I found a fellow Ontarian adventure woman! :)
First nice to see you back 😄! Those earth bags are great ! Use it on my motorcycle 🏍 going to get into some camping 🏕 with the bike so light weight is cool 😎 enjoy the rest of your summer ! 🥰
Thank you for showing your gear Good to see you again Careena Recently had someone here at work get the COVID and was out for about 2 weeks and half she is back and cleared to be back Hot here just trying to keep cold And Take care Careena I’m doing well 👍

Yeah! A food video would be great. Thanks for this one, very informative!
Whew! A new video. Was going to send the St. Bernard with the brandy keg to your rescue. 😉 Hello to your spousal unit and UA-cam’s coolest dog, Grizz!
Hi Alexis thank you for sharing and so helpful
Thanks Alexis for the informative video. Your videos are always enjoyable to watch. I usually add to my collection of things after watching my sub videos and yours is no different.
Thank you so much!
Hey Corinna.. Sorry if I spelt your name wrong.. Really like your channel.. The fact that you and Ryan share the same interests in the outdoors is awesome.. Keep up the good content, what you do inspires women and men to get outside and enjoy the outdoors at the same time respect it.. Thank you! Also I think North Water should sponsor you and send you a nice spray deck for that canoe of yours.. Cheers to you both and maybe see you guys on the water some day..

Cool Careena! I'm pretty much set with my outfit but always interesting to see what others use. We do have some common things, especially filming! I use the same. 😊🙌

You and your chanel are well worth the wait!
Thank you so much Randy!!
I have missed you and your channel so much grate video as normal x you are truly beautiful and have a lovely family can't wait to see more of your adventures xxxx
Great job lady ! Love it!
Great video Careena. Awesome to see your opinion on the gear you use. 👍
Thanks so much Adam!!
Another great one! Thanks!
Really enjoyed this view into the gear you use. Your canoe is freaking awesome. Maybe one day when i grow up i can buy one of those. Lightweight and strong, kinda like you. My comments and such may be delayed over the next month as i am selling my current home and moving south 58 miles and up from 4724' in elevation to 5600' and almost 2 acres vs the .17 acre i now have. But i will be here supporting your channel as always. You rock. Angry Old HIppie Hermit Peace.
Awesome video, very informative. Thanks for making! Super excited to hear about the gear bag as I also have been blessed with a short torso lol! So yeah, I'll definitely be checking that bag out!....On another note, I would love watching a food video. What/how you make and pack everything and snacks you take along. Feel like that could be a nice, informative video for those of us who aren't as experienced especially with dehydrating food. :)
Haha glad I’m not alone! And thanks! Will make an effort to get a food video out!
@@careenaalexis Sweet deal! Thanks for all you do by the way! You are quite the inspiration, especially to a person like me who has wanted to get out and do stuff like this for a long time, just wasn't sure (and to be honest probably more nervous) about how to start and do all the things lol, so thanks for being you and putting yourself out there!
I'd love to see a video on food tips, trick, prep for your canoe trips :)
Back again. Having an Alexis marathon. :)
just bought me a costco puffy...cant wait to try it out!
Just subscribed! I love to see other female adventures! Yes, please do a food dehydrating video 🙏🏼
Very informative! I am trying to generate interest for a BWCA trip with my crew next year. Your video is very helpful. Thank you!
going back?
Fellow peasant!
I cut a three-segment part off of a Z-lite sleeping pad and I carry that in my backpack all the time as a sitpad. As it sits in the back of my backpack while I'm hiking, it doubles as additional back support. Lightweight and multi-purpose is the way to go! We don't need to take no seats :D
Awesome gear line up! Not too much not too little. I like the hiker style cook set up, mine is set up exactly the same but I really want to upgrade to the toaks pot. Would love to see how you dehydrate your meals. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing your gear set with us! Planning a few days in the mountains. Should probably invest in some bear spray but it'd just make grizzly mad....
lots of great info here, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great, informative advice and gear explanation. Thank you!
Woohoo made my morning cardio session pass a little faster. Enjoyed the video. I love gear reviews/loud out videos..... I'm a gear junkie
Thanks Jacob!
Good to see ya back!! "World's shortest torso..." I have the opposite problem. Backpack waist belts ride way to high on me. But once you find the right one, cheap or not, hang on to it as long as you can!! All the stuff you tote is pretty much common sense gear - love that aspect. Some people carry the "kitchen sink" and it makes their canoe ride too low in the water. Thanks for sharing the video. BTW if that was the new house in the background - Very nice!! Looking forward to the cooling fall coming......
Sure was! Thank you!!
Actually not too bad! It takes the pressure off of the base of your spine but does hinder your diaphragm I expect and therefore your breathing. I use a mountain backpack which sits above the small of my back and holds 35l.
quick addition info about soap. If it floats it is pure. If it sinks, it has additives that can hurt the environment. Thanks for all your videos.
Great video. I would love to see some videos on dehydrating food
Well done video, I use a lot of the same gear. Oh,and nice tan !
Love all of your videos! Especially how you are down to earth and show your gear and even use affordable gear. Love how fun you make it. I’m curious about the soap? Is it Dr Bronners? I can’t seem to find the bar conditioner? (Btw, would love a food video sometime)!
Un saludo desde Uruguay y muchas gracias por enseñar otro estilo de acampada!!
Hello, it’s been a while, nice to see you. Yes fall is nice for activity. I wish I could be as 4 season active as you but winter is my only free time for adventure. I await to see your more active filming schedule. 😊❤️🇺🇸☃️🙁🛷⛺️🌄
Very nice footage. Big like from me 👍! I love outdoors, camping to. Keep on!
