Hi Danny, without your video I wouldn't even have attempted this - but was able to set up everything first time in under an hour! You are a credit to humanity sir!
Great video! Worked for me. I have the Worcester Greenstar 30DCI factory fitted built in wireless thermostat. One thing that is critical is to ensure you unplug the wireless module connection from the main boiler like shown in the video with the ribbon cable. If you don’t the the boiler takes the wireless controller input as precedence and doesn’t acknowledge the nest wiring into it. Once I unplugged the ribbon cable the nest worked as it should to call heating for rads! Massive thank you for the video! It saved me from a very frustrating day of working out what was wrong!
Hey Danny. You could have wired up your Nest and gone on to your next job....but instead you took this time to do this video to help others. So thank you! You really helped me here. :)
Massive thank you Danny! When I opened up the boiler and saw that the inside of my Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior Mrk V boiler looked nothing like the neat control boards on all the other UA-cam tutorials my heart also sank. Thank you so much for this video, mine is now all set up and running.
Danny. I really appreciate you doing this. I managed to get it all wired up and setup in less than an hour. You have saved alot of people alot of time. Thanks so much. Richard
Thank you so much for posting the video. I have a Greenstar 30Si and received my Nest yesterday after I switched to npower. Don't think I would have worked out where the wires went without your video, especially the loop wire. What a fantastic device!
Danny, you are a star! This video is bang on and got me through what would otherwise have been a lot of fiddling and hoping. I got the Nest installed easily with your help. You are a true gentleman. Thanks.
Thanks for uploading this. I am very grateful as I had given up doing it the night before as I was unsure if I would make a mistake as all of the online videos were for different models of worcester bosch boilers but seeing this gave me the confidence to have another go and I'm happy to say it is all connected and working perfectly. Thanks again.
Brilliant video! Used this to install my hive, along with a wiring diagram from another website. I had exactly the same original timer as you so it was great to see where the screws are to remove the panel, cover etc. Oh, and as a stroke of luck, my original installer left the blanking panel inside the boiler, slightly yellowed :)
Hi Danny, thanks for this. Although it's not working with my Worcester greenstar 28i junior. The heating is staying on constantly... Any ideas? I've wired it up exactly the same as you did. Although, the Worcester smart thermostat I had before was wired into the froststat connections instead.
Did u have any issues with the scheduler. I have done exactly the same as you on my matching boiler, it works fine if I manually set the temp but not when I set a schedule
Hi mate I followed your video, I can turn the boiler on and off on at the boiler itself on the controller , But the nest which I wired exactly same as yours and I have same boiler also to mention the nest doesn’t kick boiler on? Any idea mate
The video is real useful, wonder where can I get a set of the upgrade parts for connection to Nest, i.e. the override parts that fit into the boiler. Thank you.
Hello Danny! Thank you for your video, it is very helpful but I would like to ask you the question regarding the nest smart heating thermostat. Is it still in use in your house? You didn't have any issues with this? What benefits you can get regarding the heating or heating bills or is it just nice visual appearance? Thank you!
Hi Peter, yep I'm still using the nest thermostat and it's great. The ability to turn it on and off remotely was the biggest thing for me, as for the cost benefits it's difficult to say, I honestly couldn't say if I've saved anything with it. It wasn't my primary reason for installing in the first place.
Instead of connecting it from the boiler, can it be connected directly from the old timer so there’s no wires showing? My timer is in my kitchen. Also can the nest stat be powered from the old thermostat in the hallway? My old thermostat has 3 wires, a grey, black and a brown. Thanks.
Yep, that's the easiest thing to do if you already have a wired thermostat. I didn't so had to effectively do that what you should already have in place.
I just installed a nest on a Bosch Combi 5000 37W (Australian model) which is almost identical to the 28i in the UK. Following the wiring diagram in your video was very helpful. However on the first night the hydronic panels got very hot, way hotter than with the factory thermostat, and almost too hot to touch. Anyone else had similar experiences?
Thank you. This is almost my exact setup, except I have a digital thermostat. The graphic @ 0:45 tells you everything you need. It's a shame you took the video vertically though.
Hi Nick, I assume you mean the USB power lead? Its 1.5 meter: nest.com/uk/support/article/What-can-I-do-if-my-Nest-Learning-Thermostat-power-cord-is-too-short-to-reach-the-power-socket
Hi Danny, thank you for making the video, I’m hoping it will be enough to guide me through wiring my Heat Link correctly! I’m currently struggling to find out what cable I should use to connect it and if there should be two different types used or not. Are you able to provide any guidance on this please? I’ve got a stand for the thermostat so that side of it should be simple. Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Jay, I just used some flex 3 core I had lying around (from an old kettle i think) and sleeved the neutral. If you Google 4 core flex though that will do you. Depending on where you are putting the link you shouldn't need much say 1 metre. It's really straight forward once you start but just message back if you have any questions. Danny
I ended up finding out that 1.5mm 4 core would be sufficient. Thanks so much for your video and your help. I managed to fit it to my Worcester 24i Junior successfully and tidily thanks to the 4 core!
bradcla0707 - Hi pal, it threw me initially but on the 28i it was the casing first, 2 screws at the top and 2 at the bottom that sat in casings. Then a central screw and one just to the left of it for the stat panel which allowed the front to be lowered down. Then I could get to the wiring, under 3 screw covering, hopefully its the same on the 24i
Ah amazing, it is. Thanks for that. Now I have realised my second mistake. I haven't bought an extra wire to go from the boiler to the heat link. Crap!
bradcla0707 Nice one! I just used some old flex I had lying around and used the earth and sleeved it to avoid confusion of anyone needs to take it out.
Thanks v much for this Danny. exactly my boiler and have a 3rd gen nest sitting at home waiting to be installed. this will greatly help. a quick question. and maybe a dumb one. Nest offers hot water control as well. is there a reason you dint use that? is that because this boiler manages hot water supply on demand and hence no control is needed?
That is exactly what I was wondering. I have the same boiler and would like to reduce pre-set water temperature (55 degrees). But not sure if Nest or any other solutions can make water temperature adjustable for this particular boiler. Andy advise @Danny? Great video by the way and thanks for sharing.

Danny Bardsley haha. I am just fed up running around the house changing all the TRV's constantly so hoping a central thermostat will make life a bit easier. Being able to turn it on and off as and when from phone should come in handy as well. Just waiting for a decent deal on one now rather than paying full rrp.
Yeah I got mine through the Npower deal which is the cheapest I've seen although B&Q seemed cheap with all the codes you can stack against it. One thing I have just thought of is where you place the thermostat as this will govern the houses temperature - I moved mine 3 times before I ended up having a happy warmth all around the house. Ideally you'd have a smart valve stat on each radiator but not at them prices!
Danny Bardsley Yeah I've been wondering where to put it. Definitely going for it on a stand so it can be moved around and not stuck on a wall. Will check b and q, get emails from them all the time with money off. Cheers.
Hey Danny, thanks for this video, super helpful! Do you have a clearer copy of the diagram? I'm trying to take a screenshot of it through the screen but if you have a link that'd be great.

Thanks mate, your video helped me install the Nest on my 30si today, your instructions were spot on 👍🏻

Hi Danny, thanks for making this video - helped me out of a pickle with my greenstar and nest.
Very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and share the diagram.

Such a legend for putting this together! Thanks a lot Danny!

Thanks mate! Worked for me and saved me some cash. Recommended!
Excellent; worked a treat. Many thanks for this!
Danny that's great. That should reach to where I need it. If it was a meter it wouldn't of been long enough. Many thanks.
Thanks for the vid. it was a great help to install my nest
Been needing this for some, time! Also thanks for the part number for the panel cover, I might just do the disconnect thing however.
I finally got the loop in (any tips)? And my boiler just stays on even when the stat is off
Cheers Danny! you saved me a headache :)

If the vertical video is the only complaint you know it's a good video 😁😋
Danny How long is the lead from the plug in transformer to the Nest Thermostat.

nest.com/uk/support/article/What-can-I-do-if-my-Nest-Learning-Thermostat-power-cord-is-too-short-to-reach-the-power-socket
You can hard wire the nest thermostat using T1 and T2 to avoid plugging in. That's what I am going to do when I install mine
Could you please provide a diagram how to hardwire it? I would really appreciate it, instead of having a hideous cable running to my boiler. Thanks
