Bro sometimes my tutor would give me random practice test that says what is ratio this, what is ratio that. I got really confused. This video actually helped me so much for my 11 plus exam. Mate. I'm in my late 50's doing a bit of brush up study on maths. And YT decided to minimise all the maths videos that are meant for kids to watch. How is an adult supposed to re study the subject when all the videos are restricted for only kids? That's just a ridiculous thing for YT to do. I have a maths test on Thursday and I’ve used it contains ratio in it and I’ve never been taught it before so this was really good advice on steps on how to get through ratio. Because of you, I might just stand a chance of passing! Seems pretty simple now. The only thing I’m not so sure on fit ratio, is finding the ratio of shapes. Sorry, found an error. In 3:15min - if you want to write ratio in fraction form you can ONLY do that if it represents 17sec out of total time 60sec. If you would have lets say 17apples to 60 oranges you cannot represent it as a fraction 17/60, but you could say it's 17/77 which would mean 17apples to all fruits. Hope it makes sense
good point, I had to correct someone in my lab when referencing ratios. 1:3 would be 1 part of x to 3 parts of y would not equate to 1/3 which is 1 of 3 (part of a whole). I think this subtle difference is very important. Edit: my lab mate still uses the 1/3 = 1:3 🥴

Sorry, found an error. In 3:15min - if you want to write ratio in fraction form you can ONLY do that if it represents 17sec out of total time 60sec. If you would have lets say 17apples to 60 oranges you cannot represent it as a fraction 17/60, but you could say it's 17/77 which would mean 17apples to all fruits. Hope it makes sense
good point, I had to correct someone in my lab when referencing ratios. 1:3 would be 1 part of x to 3 parts of y would not equate to 1/3 which is 1 of 3 (part of a whole). I think this subtle difference is very important.
Edit: my lab mate still uses the 1/3 = 1:3 🥴

I'm having trouble understanding how ratio can be written in fractional form the way you did for 17:60 = 17/60.

I think that the total is not 100 but 80. So if you have 20:80 ratio means that you can split up 4 times in 20 pieces long that 80, 20 is 1/4 of 80.
He made a mistake. Ratios you add the two numbers and that is your denominator. so 1:4 will be 5 total parts. So 1/5 and 4/5. as a fraction.
