Hey Damian, I couldn’t sleep last night so I stayed up watching this UA-cam video at 4 AM instead. What a value packed video and so many eye-opening moments for me. I was about to “advertise” my new song on social media today, but I realized I have one of the most boring social media accounts on the planet. It’s just a long stream of about my continuous releases Today I made a change. I made a video giving the backstory to my latest song instead, I don’t know how it will turn out, but it surely felt much better. Thank you so much for your valuable content!
So far the best "How to be successfull in Music" Video i ever watched dispite the fact that the game for a music producer is much much harder than for bands or singer/songwriters or even DJ's... sometimes i'm feeling like selling sand at the desert and i'm constantly in the loop of giving up and committin suic*... nah! but standing up again and continue.. (the loosing game?!) often i ask myself how to become successfull as a music producer.. where to go with my content? what type of content should i post (i can't sing or can't just dance in front of a camera) and then it strikes me: how about music prodction stuff but then i will get only the musicproducer community (as my audience) and not the listeners i wish for.. ugh im constantly swimming around in the mudd 😞 having problems to make decissions.. I feel this already and I only started learning how to make and creating music over the last year and a half and I know right now I'm not as good as I one day will be. But getting only 20 - 30 listens on everything becomes very discouraging, I make it for me mostly but I end up getting so proud over my tracks because every time I make something new it's instantly the best song I've made to me and I just want as many people as possible to hear it whether they end up liking it or not is irrelevant to me because I know some will and some wont, I just want to share it all because I like it so much.
Maybe we can help each other? I honestly can't write a new sign every week to be able to post on here or TikTok regularly, so maybe I could share your songs when I don't have anything to post and vice versa? Great video. When I hear statements like 'here are 25 things to do for your next release' a little piece of me dies inside as I know I won't do all 25... but this list is actually achievable and eminently sensible.
I love what you're saying here about the numbers. My band has recently turned down a couple shows because they other members are worried about "over saturating the area." As if every show we play means that the whole city has seen our set and remembers every song and never wants to see it again haha. Back in the day we used to go to shows SPECIFICALLY to see the songs we knew they were going to play, because we liked the band and liked the songs. We hated it when they switched it up all the time to songs we didn't know. Another band I was in didn't want to release anything except 30 second clips of our songs, because they said "it's giving it away." Like really, have you EVER gone to a concert for a band which you've only heard 30 seconds of their songs? In my experience, people go to concerts for bands they love and listen to all the time. There are certainly some crazy mentalities out there....
One of your best ones yet, well done, and thank you. I also appreciate that you didn't interrupt it for an ad - kept my attention and improved the momentum of your content

Appreciate this video so much, the nuance and examples really made a lot of things click for me. My TikTok has fallen away from the music, trying to find an audience based around relationships, instead of the actual music, and I had no thoughts about performing live. But this video really helped me see both things very differently- and gives me a sense of direction. thank you ❤

Great stuff, thanks mate, pretty sure I'm as ready as I possibly can be with my single release tomorrow, still only have 40-50 people that are super interested and keep up with my latest stuff, but they are all as aware as I can make them I think haha.
Tweek the song as good as possible and exploit the song according to message the song represents. These I back to basic point that I can work on. Thank you for these and all other good points
This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam in a long while. Great advice that makes sense, presented well with some humour too. Thanks very much for the advice. Subbed :)
So glad I stumbled onto your content. I've written and produced some great stuff (I think), and I'm so overwhelmed I don't know where to start. Do I release the the latest single first - Blah Blah. You definitely switched the lights back on. Own it, lead it, take control. Thanks Damian
Damian, there’s something about you that’s just so inspiring, man. Watching you inspired me to not only work on my music career, but also get to work on my UA-cam channel as well. Also, just out of curiosity, I just turned 24 a couple days ago, do you think you could make a video about age and music? Sometimes I feel like I’m getting a little too old to blow up in music. It’d be great if you could!
Thanks so much for this Damo! Just released my first single and don’t care about the ‘numbers’ I just want people to hear and (hopefully) enjoy my music but it’s going super slow and I’ve been getting pretty discouraged. Great timing mate🤘

For me my music has never been about listeners. Nodody does unless you're both very talented, AND very lucky. For me it's just a way to regulate my emotions. I can get things out of a song I could never match with words alone. I can explore, reflect on and process my past in a way that no other medium allows. That's what it does for me, anyway.
Very lucky wtf haha This is how the type of person who wants to justify that he missed the opportunities he had speaks. Whoever is creative always finds, always achieves it. Not all are real artists
With music and art, ESPECIALLY TODAY, LUCK has about 90% to do with it. It’s a shot in the dark. There are things to help you like this video describes, but it’s really about right place, right time. Plenty of insanely talented people out there who got signed and then fell off. Plenty of shit people who became an international phenomenon. But hey, keep scratching at the wall, it’ll pay off eventually 😂
What I would really like to hear about is how to get results without social media. I hate social media. I have dropped Instagram and I'm trying to stop using fb. SoMe is so unhealthy and I have no interest in it. So what to do? I really don't know.....
I think a lot of us hate social media. It stifles productivity if you are using it to consume rather than produce. That being said I thing you should be using it as it is free promotion. You don't need to be posting everyday just consistently and giving something valuable. It's difficutl to get growth if you are only relying on your friends. Wishing you well on your journey.
@@a2bs333 I've done this for 15 years.... and I have never relied on "friends"....all my friends are also pro musicians which means they don't have time to go to concerts themselves between work, family and music. There is no time. This is also why most of Damian's advice is impossible to implement in everyday life... My situation for 8 years has been that there's time for ONE thing besides work and family. So I have to choose between recording/writing music...or marketing...or getting in shape...or nerd out with repairing vintage electronics. So many passions, so little time. I choose mostly making some music at the home studio to upload to youtube. Which then hardly gets any views. But if I have to go into marketing then there's no time for music. It's an endless loop. With no solution 😓
You hate social media but u asking for information via a social media platform. You need to change your mindset first, cause social media is not the problem, the problem is how u use social media. Stop making excuses and get to work otherwise I'm taking your job and I'm taking your money my G

Dinosaurs predated early humans by about 65 million years Damian 😁, but you're very right nonetheless. Some really great authentic advice on this one, cheers Damo!
Number 3 is pretty much me, I just can't stand social media and need to take long breaks. I feel like the older I get, the less I care to be on it (I'm 38 going on 39).I honestly haven't been on any social media since November 2022 because I just got tired of it; I also felt burnt out with all the music making and just took a break. My day job has been taking up a lot of my time with working over the weekends and working overtime. At this point in my life, its very up and down with my music and its becoming more of a hobby. But I would love to make it at least into a side business. Maybe I can hire an intern or something to keep my social media up to date 😂
Yes, I hate social media and I'm simply not good at it LoL. I don't have the time or energy to make up and record silly skits to try to get attention or edit a million short clips to get pieces of my music out there so that people don't turn off within 3 seconds 😂

Thanks for Putting these lists together Damian! The information is certainly very helpful getting some proper perception on how to build social media.
I love your list man. Its extremely insightful. I feel highly motivated. Thank you for putting this together
Not a problem at all, really glad to help
Comprehensive and useful advice. Much thanks 🙏🏾
Great video. When I hear statements like 'here are 25 things to do for your next release' a little piece of me dies inside as I know I won't do all 25... but this list is actually achievable and eminently sensible.
Put your music on repeat all month= 💰
He speaking mad facts, and my promoter been telling me if you not making good music fam it’s not going take off.
Love the straight forward communication! Thanks for the amazing input.
One of your best ones yet, well done, and thank you. I also appreciate that you didn't interrupt it for an ad - kept my attention and improved the momentum of your content
Thanks so much and thanks for that feedback I will keep that in mind when posting the next batch of videos 🙂🙏
This is so densely packed with good advice. I highly appreciate this distillation. Now all I got to do is put it into practice.
When kids are sleeping and wife is reading at the bed, I secretly open my favorite UA-cam channel and take a BIG MOTIVATION FIX from Damian! Thank you so much for your work buddy! you rock! 🙏💌🍀🌠
Brilliant..it’s such a nice “kick in the ass’. To be proactive about our goals is really a key factor
This could be one of the best videos on your channel, it perfectly sums up all the knowledge and empowerment I found watching hours and hours of your content. Many Thanks Damian!!!
That means a lot, thank you so much Charles 🙂

Newbie here but really enjoying your content. Love the long form stuff as I can listen to it while driving. Really great advice well done 👍
I wish I could buy your full course..not yet unfortunately. no cash. But I'll do the best I can right now. Your content is being really eye openers. - I needed that
Solid video bro!
this video popped up in my stream at just the right time. My tiktok is really kicking off, but still only got 16 streams of my last single. lol.
Fantastic. So much work and thinking went into those well spent minutes. Thank you, I'll be back! Liked and subscribed.
Number 17 is totally me! I have no friends and can't seem to find anyone that wants to help or collaborate 😂
Appreciate this video so much, the nuance and examples really made a lot of things click for me. My TikTok has fallen away from the music, trying to find an audience based around relationships, instead of the actual music, and I had no thoughts about performing live. But this video really helped me see both things very differently- and gives me a sense of direction. thank you ❤

The tensing the muscle thing hit home. Burnout and going missing from anxiety. I needed that hit, man. Thanks
Nice shirt, btw 👌🏼
slow and steady wins the race! great vid!!!
This is golden advice! Straight to the point without trying to sell me something. Thank you I’m sold on you 😂
Damian is a hoot. I always like his realistic encouragement.
Hah thank you appreciate that ❤️❤️
I did the 1sec thing on my last 12pieces of content on Insta. So interesting to look at it this way! Great point, thank you🙏
Amazing, did it help?
@@DamianKeyes Yes. It helps me to understand how others get a first impression of me and then to think about if that's what I stand for or not.
This was a great watch.
Thanks so much 🙂
Title caught my attention bro thank you as always
As usual, amazing advice and content. My favorite bit, “Utter Turd” (need a tee with that quote)🤣🤣 Cheers!!
your the ONLY youtuber who provides actually useful information
I really appreciate brother, thank you so much
@@DamianKeyes Nooo problem!! You show so much love to us artists so it's the least I could do is show it back!
You’ve been teaching me so much. Cheers!
Great videos, full of great advises and knowledge
This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam in a long while. Great advice that makes sense, presented well with some humour too. Thanks very much for the advice. Subbed :)
That really means a lot to me, thank you so much, appreciate you 🙂🙂
So glad I stumbled onto your content.
You’re never too old ;) The question you should ask yourself is are you still breathing and capable of making music? The rest is noise
Haha 24, jeez. On the internet you can do it at any age. Even old guys are blowing up
awesome video much appreciated yes work the algorithm tailor made for the individual
Thanks for another incredible burst of info DK. I appreciate you taking the time to write all that down for us 😂 ❤
Listening to your advice is like a phone conversation really cool information
Great job with this Damo
Thanks so much 😊😊
Absolutely amazing stuff!! Working on building on my consistency by better managing anxiety. Adding the rest of these to my personal list! Thank you 🎧
Thanks so much, I have a video next week about helping anxiety, hopefully that helps too 🙂🙏
Me too, wishing you luck 🎉❤
Damian Keyes❤ Thank you
Thanks so much for this Damo! Just released my first single and don’t care about the ‘numbers’ I just want people to hear and (hopefully) enjoy my music but it’s going super slow and I’ve been getting pretty discouraged. Great timing mate🤘
Don't be discouraged, I'm here for you. Let's take it day by day and start looking for the routine and the 1% improvements. This is a marathon and yI want you to prioritise small steps each day 🙂
Mate, this is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing knowledge! The recap at the end truly made the difference for me with my adhd :)

Ooops, time to resurrect all my past singles, thanks for the tip Damian!
Absolutely, lets get these assets moving! Great job
Skipping to the end for the bulletpoints is not as effective as watching the whole thing, cause between those points you said a lot of valuable things in between which are very useful!
Thank you!
I really like your videos. They are very informative! Great work!
Thanks for sharing this information. I'm going to use this and keep trying until I make it.

Wow that was great. Feeling very inspired now thanks Damo.
I released my first song a few weeks ago and I’m gonna be releasing another one but I must not neglect to promote my first one still like you said

Very lucky wtf haha
This is how the type of person who wants to justify that he missed the opportunities he had speaks.

Hi Damian, thanks so much for providing us this valuable content, I am finding this really useful and have seen these tips really work! Will continue to work on my marketing skills and will come back to your content to learn some more!
Come here all time to watch you❤❤
Dinosaurs predated early humans by about 65 million years Damian 😁, but you're very right nonetheless.
I feel you on this man. I can’t stand social media.. I just refuse to be on it all day to promote my music. Such a waste of time.
Yes, I hate social media and I'm simply not good at it LoL. I don't have the time or energy to make up and record silly skits to try to get attention or edit a million short clips to get pieces of my music out there so that people don't turn off within 3 seconds 😂
I feel this man I also dislike social media my friends make fun of it all the time
Thank You Damian!!
That was deep!
Appreciate you, thank you 😊😊😊
Great advice in this video, and a lot of assurance that I'm doing some of the right things. Cheers Damian!

Love it! You need to get your hook in within ... 1 second! hahaha. Seriously watched it twice - I'm on a different account now though and that's probably a "don't" as well :D
Thank you Damian! 👍 I need to be more consistent with the band’s socials.
Love it, I think we all feel like that, but we can keep striving for that consistency 🙂

staying on peoples radar is really hard when you got a full time job and have hobbies, friends of family.... around my releases I post lots of videos and stuff but after the momentum I take some rest and focus on breathing again
Hey Damian, I was wondering if releasing music in multiple genres is a good choice, what are your thoughts on it?
it depends but people like tyler did it in his own way
Thank you sir! I start now.
Love it, good luck Julian
Wonderful, thank you very much. Definitely pepped me up a bit to get out and make some content
I’m trying to grow my music as much as I can no doubt it’s hard doing something where everybody trying to make it but Ik my talent will be heard can’t wait for a record label deal
I really like this. A lot of it sorta confirms/validates my intuitions about promo. Esp entertaining > advertising, and managing existing material.
Hey Dustin, I agree! Entertaining will always beat advertising, the smartest people know how to advertise without it feeling like an advert
You’re always worth listening to. Thanks Damo. Will have to watch once or twice more
