    👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my UA-cam channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, UA-cam channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

I'm writing and recording the best music of my life over the past few years, and it's been like the proverbial "tree falling in the wilderness". No one is listening, so am I actually making a sound? You're obviously a type A personality, and I dig your advice - it makes total sense to me why you're doing well. However, many musicians and songwriters are decidedly NOT type A personalities (I'm talking about myself here), and would kill to have your organizational skills and business-minded demeanor. I'm not sure if that particular flaw is fixable, unfortunately.

I do feel you here. I would suggest let’s start with using the music and content to promote you. Even if it’s making some performances or 20 second music videos. Think about the text when posting and how you can trigger someone’s interest with your story telling.
Then just keep on grinding and looking for the 1% improvements over time. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
I’m here for you and don’t lose the passion for music and creating 😊😊

@@DamianKeyes I have several music videos on my UA-cam channel that I've put serious time and effort into, but what I thought was my "Dark Side of the Moon" has not resonated with the demographic that still likes rock n roll. And I can't change who I am or change my musical sensibilities whilst remaining true to myself. To that point, here's a tip for anyone who cares to learn from my mistakes: artists like Roger Waters, U2, Springsteen, etc. can get away with taking a public position on controversial topics; a lesser known artist writing in protest about social issues will probably just alienate a large portion of their audience. But dammit, I'm still proud of what I produced. Just me and my falling trees.

Im gonna go and say it since no one else has, I Hate the algorithms. Ever since sockal media has taken over the game has been more about algorithms and less about the passion and love. Whether its music, puppies, selling clothes, making money, making funny shorts it is rare to see someone create today for the love. Its always geared around the algorithm. So much u have to ask does the creator even believe in the product that they are selling? Would they use it? Do they like it? Do they even care? It literally can be any product or service that this can apply to.

It sounds counter intuitive but you bring them value and build familiarity so over time they come to want more of the song and the artist. It's avoiding that first feeling of an advert that people hate when scrolling :)
Maybe I should phrase it differently. instead of Advertise the music then show the music, change it to bring value, and the music and at the end of the piece of content then show people the CTA as by then they have seen everything.

(the loosing game?!)
often i ask myself how to become successfull as a music producer.. where to go with my content? what type of content should i post (i can't sing or can't just dance in front of a camera) and then it strikes me: how about music prodction stuff but then i will get only the musicproducer community (as my audience) and not the listeners i wish for.. ugh im constantly swimming around in the mudd 😞 having problems to make decissions.. (sorry about the drama i had to put it somewhere 😀)

I love what you're saying here about the numbers. My band has recently turned down a couple shows because they other members are worried about "over saturating the area." As if every show we play means that the whole city has seen our set and remembers every song and never wants to see it again haha. Back in the day we used to go to shows SPECIFICALLY to see the songs we knew they were going to play, because we liked the band and liked the songs. We hated it when they switched it up all the time to songs we didn't know. Another band I was in didn't want to release anything except 30 second clips of our songs, because they said "it's giving it away." Like really, have you EVER gone to a concert for a band which you've only heard 30 seconds of their songs? In my experience, people go to concerts for bands they love and listen to all the time. There are certainly some crazy mentalities out there....

My situation for 8 years has been that there's time for ONE thing besides work and family. So I have to choose between recording/writing music...or marketing...or getting in shape...or nerd out with repairing vintage electronics. So many passions, so little time.

Y'all, it's super simple - there are three ways to MAYBE make it:
    - The most reliable: know people in the industry/have a shit ton of money to buy your way up
    - The riskiest: shock/outrage marketing (if you don't care too much about haters). Kim Kardashian and her fam are the marketing masters of this technique.
    - The least likely to get you anywhere, especially if you have to work part or full time: grind' for 30 years. :')

I subscribed to your channel. I am an old dog with tons of self written music on my back and I´ve made a UA-cam channel where I upload slowly my own material and some covers. My intention is trying to promote myself to get a chance in the world of music for films, or being an artistic producer for other musicians. My videos reached the astonishing peaks of - with luck - 80 views -. A complete disaster. I am trying to learn the tricks of the trade, and the more tutorials i see, the more confused I become. Of course if my releases are able to make some money, they are welcome! But I have the feeling that the number of hours invested in composing, playing, mixing, mastering video editing are not worth the financial reward at the end of the road. The market is oversaturated, the shorts videos triumphed over videos 4 or 5 minutes long, TikTok is the new trend and I simply cannot stand it etc. I still must learn a lot about these new rules in the music business. Kind regards!
