Thanks for that video... just live off Warrigal rd in Oakleigh South! Take a look at the old Ventura Bus at 0:36 crossing Nepean and heading North on Warrigal rd
That's a good video of Warrigal Rd. My Parents had the Milk Bar opposite Oakleigh Tech in the Sixties and Not far to Chadstone shops.Myer himself opened the Second store their in 66 and Helen Shapiro appeared there after her English tour with the Beatles. It was a great shopping centre in its time and so convenient for bus and car.📺
Ah yes, I remember it well. I'm pretty sure the blue Bedford Ventura bus on Warrigal Road in the opening scenes is the one driven by my favourite bus driver 'Jock', who transported me daily from Haig Street, Burwood to Oakleigh State School, from 1950 to 1952. I remember particularly the bus's modern 'cab over' design and the 'crash' manual gearbox, requiring quite some driving skill. It was always a good start to the day when it was Jock's bus that arrived at the morning stop.
I remember old "Jock" the driver, he used to take us from Box Hill South to Box Hill to go to the movies or to catch a train into the city. I'd forgotten about him until you mentioned his name and then his smiling face came straight back into my memory.
Not much line marking anywhere. Just drive where you like. Waiting to see some pre 1955 right hand turns. That was when every right hand turn in the state had to be done as a hook turn from the left lane. The change was quite a hot topic in the newspapers of the time. Part of Bolte getting elected was his promise not to just talk about turning right from the centre of the road but make it the law.
Interesting...and so i know Bolte was premier of Victoria in late 60s when i started to become aware of political stuff ..Had he been premier since the 1950s then ?

Hi Geoff, See my note re Jock my favourite driver on the Ventura bus line in the early 1950s.
