I prefer to do it on your website because I do not use Facebook products including Instagram but I love taking pictures I’m only on VERO and UA-cam
The Moon Bazooka returns!!! 😊😊😊 always GREAT stuff…THANK YOU!! We just need clear skies…rain rain and more rain UGH!!
Thank-you for these monthly updates. Hopefully Instagram gets its' act together and stops causing problems for creators.
Thanks Alyn, unfortunately the forest fires in Canada is making to hard for stargazing.
darn heading back to Canada next week for a month. Let's all pray that it rains hard up there and puts those fires out.
Your witns videos always get me hyped about next months photography. Great stuff 👌
Yep, my star gazing's on hold, I'm at Vardo Norway, so 24hr daylight😎 missing the nights already, It's only been a month.
I'm quite far north in the north east of England and the Noctilucent Clouds have,so far ,been poor this year. The only ones I have seen have been far to the north forming bands along the northern horizon. They look very similar at that angle to the Nacreous Clouds that I saw for the first time in January.Last year the Noctilucent Clouds were directly overhead.
Last night was the first time I saw noctilucent clouds while staying in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Too bad I didn't have any gear to record it. But it was very cool, and I wouldn't have realized it if you hadn't told us what they are. Thanks Alyn!
Thanks, Alan. I like your shirt.
Omg I am in Yonkers, New York, and I saw about nine balls of light in a line around 9 o’clock
Great video Alyn I order your book and I'm so excited to read it cheers from Poland ❤🌌📷
Thanks so much!
Warning⚠️ This is most addictive UA-cam channel for Astronomy Lovers 🌌❤!

Always enjoy watching the 📹
Too late iam a couple of years in
Great video! Ive been watching videos about ha filters and I watched yours and noticed that my final stacked image of the ha image and hargb images were very noise and the ha didn’t give me much of the nebula. the first time I tried it I took pictures of the North America nebula and got around 3 hours of exposure time. I added it on to my rgb image which had around 5 hours of exposure time too. When I stacked the final image it was very noisy and there wasn’t much nebula, I use the canon 75-300mm f/5.6 kit lens and it’s an expensive filter. Do you think it’s the lens that’s making the noise since it’s only a kit lens or could it be the filter?
Hi... you might think about using Vero for the #WITNS challenge (like Peter McKinnon did) .. there the # seems to be more accessible.
Saw some NLCs tonight :)
I feel like I'm going insane chasing NLCs this year. Either this year is weaker than the others or I'm just missing them
Are you guys about to release a new version of the star tracker? MSM one?
I want to invest in it but would hate to buy one and then a new one comes out immediately :)
Continue your channel
Hopefully clear skies for the meteor showers down here in Oz, but it is winter... what a pity about the photos, I love looking at the winners 😣 hope you can work something out. Cheers Cheryl
I got it figured out. #witnsjuly2023 #witnsaug2023 #witnssept2023
Sadly even hashtags with low image counts only shop top posts
If you don’t mind, can you explain why shooting the milky way would be the best in the middle of the month instead of the end when we are approaching new moon? Assuming the moon has already set wouldn’t it be the same?
ig fan of your work my problem is the fires in Canada making the night sky hazy in my part of the world
Does MBP operate in Australia Alyn?
Hey Alyn, android still has a recent tab on Instagram
Perhaps have people submit the url to their instagram posts through the form? Might be easier/more desirable for them than uploading the photos themselves through the form
Alyn, what about doing #WITNS_Jul23 #WITNS_Aug23 ... and so forth or would it still only show top? I would think the pool would be smaller to pull from so you could still see all? Not sure just throwing it out there. Love your videos!
Sound Like a great idea. I like the submission form better though. Because that way I can pick my one favourite image to send it in.
Sadly it seems even hashtags with small amount of images suffer the same "Top Posts" nonsense. It's not fair unless I can see all the images regardless of how many likes or followers you have
If people tag(@) you, won’t they come up in chronological order on your tagged images tab on your profile?
That lens!!! 😂
What about using VERO for the hashtag as well
It's been 7 months since you uploaded a astrovlog
Still waiting....
Maybe a People choice top ten? and then you pick one from there?
What happens if you make a second profile and call it witns? Peiple can just tag the account in the pictures?
Really a big fan of your work, have surfed through all your works...na you kindly suggest, which budget lens is best for milky way and deep space photography. I am a new hobbyist and hv canon rebel t7 and the kit lens EF 18-55.. great fan from India
That's a great kit to start you should try it :)
@@AlynWallace thank you
JUST CHECKED FOR GEMININDS THIS YEAR AND WAS SPELLBOUND that unlike every year till now , this year its gonna be a complete no moon night
A solution could be to have people post their images to Twitter instead of Instagram. Twitter still has the ability to see all recent posts using a particular #hashtag.
Images on Twitter have always been accepted into WITNS but I never get more than a handful over there
What about setting up a WITNS account and we @mention it on our posts. You could then post the 3 winning pics on the account.
A couple of others have recommended this and I think its the best idea so far, thanks.
Is that a buck with the moon or a bull elk? hummmmm Nice informative video thanks
Hi Alyn, I'm WanShah all the way from Malaysia😊. I'm just using handphone to capture the picture of the night sky. Didn't have budget for real camera yet 😊.
Alyn, Is there any video that you explain how to differentiate the different meteor shower that occurs at the same month. Like end of this month, the 3 meteor showers peaking almost at the same date.
Tq Alyn
If you Google their names individually you will find images showing what area of sky to look and you will notice the clue is actually in the name. Hope that helps 😊
Maybe the best option is a # each month including year. So, #wtins_7_23 for exemple
Sadly even hashtags with low image counts only shop top posts
I’m not sure if this will help, but another site is asking to tag with the # and again with the @
how about a flickr group album?
I down loaded a milky way calender for Snowdonia and it's saying it's not visible in July. Is that true ? Or with the two astronomical viewing lenses in my head will you be able to view it ?
Most of these calendars only consider the Milky Way as visible during dark night but its still visible in astronomical twilight
Thanks for another great video! Sadly, mercury and venus stand too low for me here in Germany! Great luck getting a good shot in Turkey, though!! I submitted my picture! I think this isnt the worst way since its reducing the amount of pictures you get. Otherwise Id say the idea of #witns_year_month is a good one.
Thanks! The same issue occurs even with hashtags that have small number of posts :(
@@AlynWallace but you would be able to see all the posts just in a different order. Still every single post is shown just the order is changed
Could you say something about how you would solve doing a milky way image with a city visible? The biggest problem, I think, will be the light pollution on the sky? An ND filter covering the city part will probably take care of that part, but the light spills up into the sky part... Appreciate any wisdom into this problem. Also been thinking about doing two images and combine them. Maybe there is a filter to minimize the light pollution?
no solution, adding an nd filter over the sun doesnt make stars appear either
@@owengee7415 In general, if you don't have anything good to say, then it is better to keep quiet. This kind of answer is not helpful.
@@SveinWisnaes Even when all light pollution was sodium based, light pollution filters wouldn't allow you to capture the Milky Way from a city. You can cover the lights with an ND filter all you want but the light is illuminating all the particles in the atmosphere and creating a veil that you can't see through. You're only hope is a relatively small city that is at sea level and you are shooting from a high altitude mountain nearby, helping you get up and out of the light dome a bit. But otherwise I'm afraid there's no magic trick that can allow you to see the Milky Way from a city.
What about #witnsjuly2023 then #witnsaugust2023 etc etc?
Can you get noctilucent clouds at sunrise as well?
You can see them about 2,5-1,5h before sunrise, yes.
@@Swelinde ok cool! I’ll be on the lookout
Looks like tweetdeck has been killed. My user columns and hashtag columns are not loading. My suggestion will not work anymore.
How about using the #AW_Witns hashtag?
Sadly even hashtags with low image counts only shop top posts
#witnsmonthyear could bei a solution
Sadly even hashtags with low image counts only shop top posts
Maybe reddit?
Great update Alyn. For WITNS, entries have to be captured that month right? I had an interesting twilight submission with "noctilucent clouds" but it's from January and from a rocket launch.
At what magnitude should the Milky Way be photographed?
Instagram is broken. The Meta destroyed it like every thing they touch 🤬 … never touch a running system. But they didn’t listen.
What ever maybe you could change the platform to Vero there should be a „normal“ hashtag system. And plus point the pics are available in a higher resolution.
Flickr! Seriously… you can share full res photos there too.
